I have been wondering about name "4800+" does that mean it is faster than any 3.6 Intel? Or just a marketing name?

yes and no.

For dual core the model names are generaly marketing... but yes the 4800+ will beat the crap out of a p4 3.6ghz.

Agreed. An X2 4800 should be called an X2 4000, since it's two A64 4000's on one core. It's also faster than a 3.6 Ghz P4, assuming the P4 isn't overclocked, or isn't overclocked much.

It has absolutely no bearing on performance, except within processors of its own family. While generally faster than any stock Pentium-D, its still slower than an E6400 Core2 (which runs at 2.13Ghz).

There are 2 different X2 4600+'s. (3 or 4 if you count Energy Efficient)
One with DDR controller (Socket 939) and one with DDR2 controller (Socket AM2). Obviously Socket 939 X2 will work only with DDR and Socket AM2 X2 will work only with DDR2.

You can use PC2100 (DDR266) or PC3200 (DDR400) depends on the motherboard supports.

Actually I'm pretty sure 4800+ means it performs in theory, on average, like a 4.8ghz P4 would. And by this I mean that the ideal multithreaded scenario would be say, something like a 7ghz single core (2x4000+, but really 4800+ is 2.2 not 2.4ghz) P4, but since that doesn't always happen, they go with 4800+

Same reason why an e6600 is named an e6600 perhaps

X2 4800's have been, since day one, two 2.4 Ghz A64's on one chip.

It's a myth that the AMD performance rating has anything to do with the P4. It doesn't and never has. Also, while the E6600 is somewhat faster then the 4800+ it's definitely not 37.5% faster in most apps.
