Just bought a new cooler for my X800GTO (GTO not GTO2) and when I took off the stock cooler I was surprised to find "R480" written on the core. Does this mean I can mod this to the x850xt like the X800GTO2 can? That would be sweet!

Is the pcb on it blue? If it is then you may have the "crossfire" edition which features the same ram and gpu as the gto2, but no pci-e power feed, it can be oc'd but not unlocked.

Just tried overclocking it. I don't know what it is, but it's a beast! It's at: 618mhz core/615mhz mem and stable for 5 minutes now! It has a blue pcb so you could be right Reiniku.

If someone has a crossfire card, I might be able to confirm wether or not mine is a crossfire by comparing my card with theirs in atitool.
Here's what mine says... (by shift clicking on settings)
Device ID 5D4F
Chip Type R480
Memory Size 256MB
Memory Bus Width 256bit
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFF7FFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9E
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x261
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x227A4

edit: Got it up to 620core/615mem stable after 30mins. I love this card.

Nice clocks..

I'm going to pick me up one of these 800GTO's as well..
Good budget, but great performing card at an excellent price

Those clock speeds are awesome man. My GTO2 can't come close to that. Perhaps when I get the VF700 I'll be able to get XT PE speeds out of it.

Well it doesn't mention "fireblade" anywhere on the box or on the card. Also I didn't think the fireblade could go that high, didn't even know it had a R480 core. It looks just like a plain X800GTO, but it sure doesn't act like one.

Have you tested out 3dmark05? I'm curious if your high clock rates can match up with the gto2's 16 pipes + xt/xtpe rates.

I'm using a zalman vf700-cu

I ran 3dmark05 and got:
stock 400/490 4416
overclocked 615/610 6187
Not sure if that's good or bad since I've never used the program before.

At that oc'd rate you're doing just as well as a x850xt pe. Most people can't even get to that 3dmark score with their gto2.

Holy crap.

I feel like singing, I have the exact same card. Just got no method of running it yet!

Waiting for a bloody motherboard!

This info is really useful, cheers for posting the thread man!

I have the GTO2, and I noticed it clocks much farther at 12pipes than 16pipes.

At the stock 12pipes my best overclock was 590 core 635 mem (3dmark05 5870)

After unlocking to 16pipes my best o/c is 542 core 595 mem (3dmark05 6360)

Either way it's a monster card for $200:)

If you want to try it, take off the cooler and see what's written on the core... If it's the same as mine you'll likely be able to clock as high as me.
