Aye, but then you get into the arguement of battle rifle, assault rifle, carbines, etc :p

The conductor done derailed this thread :D

I'd hate to see what you call a bank robbery gone right.

"an AK-47 is not a fscking machine gun!"

Umm . . . what would you call it then? An assault rifle? The term machine gun is used generally to refer to any fully-automatic weapon.

so, this is a machine gun? An AKM is a fully automatic rifle, not a machine gun. A machine gun is made for higher rates of sustained fire, tends to be belt fed, heavier barrel to handle the extra heat (higher rate of fire = more powder burnt = more heat), etc.

No it's a machine pistol or submachine gun, by definition any full-automatic weapon that fires pistol cartridges.

See, a weapon that goes "boom" more than once after one trigger pull is not necessarily a machinegun. Now, if we were talking about, say, an RPK, there would be more room for arguement, but an AK47 is considered an automatic rifle, not a machinegun

Is it too much to ask trained police officers to make a headshot? Is it really that hard ?

I laughed at the part where the cops figure out they have to shoot for the head, mainly b/c most cops I've met couldn't score a headshot using their entire clip at 50' at the range, where you are shooting at a piece of paper that doesnt shot back. The pucker factor doesnt help accuracy...

i think i am wrong, but wasnt the only place they DIDNT have armor was on their feet?

and if you have ever shot a pistol, it is VERY hard to hit a small target, such as the head, the body is the main area they aim for because it is a much larger area, and easier to hit a "vital" organ, while i have never fired at a moving, returning fire, target, or been trained, i have shot a .45 and a .223 (LOUD), and a .22 pistol, and they are very hard, a .223 rifle isnt as hard.

Its fairly hard even before you add the pucker factor

Edit: IMO, for people that carry guns around daily, cops as a whole do not practice with their firearms NEARLY enough, if it all.

but figure 25-30 cops emtying their guns at the two could at least get one head shot in.

For a second there, I thought that the Detective, during his monologue, was going to go off on an anti-gun rant.

I mean, all it would've taken is one of the citizens in the area to be proficient with an AR15 and he coulda taken them out from 200 yards. ;-)

You might get a hit on the range with this set up (range, angle, etc), but people tend to think rounds downrange = good, so more rounds = better. In this scenario, 2 hits is all you need, but its hard to pace yourself and aim the shots

Yeah you also have to figure in nervousness....wouldn't you be a little shaky if two guys with AK-47s were unloading all around you?

I was thinking about it... if you were, say, on the way home from the range with your deer rifle, and you picked the guys off without talking to the cops before hand, what would happen to you?

Thats my point, under ideal conditions (no risk to yourself or others), the police might be able to do it. People shooting at your with automatic rifles != ideal conditions

Too bad the shop didnt have anything like, say, an AR-50 or something from Barrett's fine line of 50BMG rifles. Body armor, no body armor... it doesnt matter. Of course, the cops probably couldnt hit them with it, but...

You're not getting.

If the gun shop didn't have assault rifles, the COPS wouldn't have been able to get their hands on any.

The lack of gun shops sure as hell wouldn't have stoppped the gunman from finding guns.
