I have to agree that the forums have changed a lot. And the main reason is because of the mini-teams. When the Feds and TWTA were having their little sparring matches against each other it was acutally quite entertaining (TransWarp, lol).

Ultimately I think when the borg came along (yeah we had the feds, so we might as well have the borg) Russ brought in his ethic of 'its a competition, lets win it properly' into a place where it was more an attitude of 'we gained x amount on /., we'll get them soon enough' (ie. no rush).

But I have to admit that Russ and Dan have done a good job, I dont think anybody can deny that, and I am impressed by the way that he wants to head the team into 'battle'. But I dont like Russ' attitude (I am allowed to say that without fear of flame I think), it is too competitive for something we promote as fun, and some people here are definitely trying to fight the wrong battle.

But you guys have to look at what your saying!! You say, we dont want to loose team members, but then point the finger at Russ and Dan when people say that they dont find it fun anymore. Well not to defend anyone, but they do things their way.

Are we trying to encourage them to quit or something? I hope not.

Yeah things have changed on the team, probably for the worse at the moment. Hey lets try and bring back the fun element. How's that trout pond going? ;)

vss1980: I couldn't agree with you more!

I posted a previous message dissagreeing with one of our members, but I kept it civil, on point, and refrained from attack. I think I see both points of view the same way you do, but I don't know that I can be of any help in aiding the parties in resolving their differences.

Personally, I think the mini-team stratedgy is/was a two-edged sword with positive and negative potential alike.

Admittedly, I don't happen to be a highly competitive person. Oh sure, I may get a little upset when I get my butt handed to me in UT, but that's okay, I can deal with that because I'm doing it for the fun of it, and I approach the DC projects the same way. I don't know what else I can say or thoughtfully add here, so I'm just gonna shut up I guess. :)

TA Cube existed before The Federation. Just a factual correction; not intended as any kind of attack or flame.

While i'm a bit late to the party, I'd like to inject my thoughts if I may(sorry Joe, but I had to say something). Right now, both sides are off in space as far as I'm concerned. Neither is too willing to listen, and neither is truely willing to resolve this. Hence, I belive that Vince hit this straight on. Russ is not 100% evil, possibly 100% insane, but not evil.;) The energy that he and his borg buddies brought into the team was definately needed, and we're greatful for that.

However, I also belive that in recent months, the attitudes of Russ and the rest of the borg leaders has been less that outstanding. From accusations of the DPC planting seeds to cause us to fight, to general flames; they have not represented what TA is about. TA was formed by some great guys(Jackal, Becks, Amok; god I miss you guys:() who created a team based not on winning(though we'll never deny that is was a goal along the way;)), but a team that was formed to be something new, something different, something fun. From our first Quake 2 night(where the imfamous Anand Lal Shimpi showed up), to the Warpcore project(look where all this trek lingo has gotten us;)), to the launch of Mika's, and the formation of the Team Anandtech proxy network; this team and it's values have been about the experience of the game, the parners in it, and the oddities we encounter.

Unfortunately, that has changed in recent months. The team has increasingly become more competitive not only with the outside world, but with itself. Instead of being Team Anandtech, we've been the Dutch Power Cows(no offense guys, but from a good deal of our member's POV, we have the richer culture); striving to be #1. Instead of hearing about someone overclocking their CPU a few more mhz to get a block or 2 more a day, or going woot! over breaking a milestone; we hear about the team falling to second place in the race.

Unfortunately, this is where I must pick on some members.:( Borg: we know you want to see TA be #1 in the world, and heck, I don't blame you. However, if you wish to contribute to TA, you need not only to contribute with new members and blocks, but with a positive, flameless attitude(You guys are good flamers, no question, but flames do not make TA strong) that will help TA grow as a communitiy, friends, and companions. TA was built on the greatness of a community, don't forget it, and don't lose it.

Osmo and crew: there is nothing that can be said or done to excuse what's happened on either side. While we may not like it, change is enevitable. The Borg bring in a new side to Team Anandtech, and as long as they can prove that it is wholely good for TA, we must respect it. Change brought us things like the Warpcore and the Edge(aka The Computer Formally Know As the Webbox;)); and I belive that in the future, it will continue to bring good things.

The rest of you guys: as I've said to the Borg and to the others, we face a different future, a future shrowded in surprise, loss, and curiosity. Remember what TA was built on, and use that to guide the path ahead. We can't be stuck in the past, but at the same time, we can't forget the past in order to jump into the future. There is no right or wrong side, no right or wrong way, all there is, is the TA way. Fordge the TA way the best you can, as TA cannot survive without it.

Gaining new members is GREAT! Certainly they deserve their very own "welcome" thread. Please keep this thread on topic. Thank you.

I've been around for two years now.. At least.. But now, after today, and this thread, I will be leaving Team Ananadtech, and taking my small heard with me (not that it matters eh?). Anyone who knows me would know that I have (or at least had) a huge amount of love for Team Anandtech. But I have no time, nor the patience to deal with this crap.

Maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't.

I'd love to give shoutouts to all the people who I feel that have made this team great, but it would be far too long. And I dont feel its fair to leave anyone out. (I forget some names sometimes).

Signing off (for now) DaZ. daz-.

Good luck to the 'good' members of TA. And thanks for the good times.

" But I have no time, nor the patience to deal with this crap."

DaZ,

Whatever side of this nonissue you lie on, just ignore whoever you perceive as the crappers and the crap will go away. Too many people are making mountains of molehills. We simply need to do less pontificating and more assimilating.

Osmo,

Borg recruits will be very happy to arrive in a thread in which the Collective and others in Team AnandTech are under scrutiny, maybe even under attack.

Stanman is bringing this firepower to help Team AnandTech recapture first place overall:

Thunderbirds:

-1210MHz
-1160Mhz
-1000Mhz
-900Mhz
-(1000MHz also coming, maybe this weekend)

Athlon classic:

-700Mhz

Duron:

-650MHz

Celeron:

-850MHz
-533Mhz
-366Mhz

Welcome to Team AnandTech in this oh so Darwinian time, Stanman. Feel right at home for your contribution is much valued.

Woke up, and astonished this thread is still there. This is getting riduculous. Well I should be ashamed of bringing it up again but its just a 4 spot bump.

Osmo, you ask to stay on topic. This topic is ugly for sure, and mostly useless. Why stay on the topic of a childish argument ? NOTHING will be resolved here, as both parties are unable to understand each other's point. This is no offence to any of them, s intelligence ; this happens in almost all arguments I happen to wintness anywhere. So, I like Desperados (a tequila flavoured beer, for who may not know).

LD, your original post was maybe not aimed at Russ/the Borg/MTs, but that's where the thread went to, want it or not. You miss the old ambience, but we can't order people to be friendly, have fun and help each other. We just can do it ourselves, and others will do too. If you want things to change, change them. The above is not directed at you personnaly, but at anyone who want thigs to be different. Do your own part to make them different, it may work. Every little bit helps, both good and bad. Keep the good, leave the bad, and others might imitate you.

Russ, your're not going to convince Systt3m and others that you're a nice guy, and a valuable asset to the team, whatever the points you give. They don't like you much, it seems, and it won't change. That's it, nothing to do about it. Yes, the Borg were formed before the feds. I'm sure you like chocolate pudding. I love to see TA cube in the daily top 10, and I congratulate. I hate when you bash a newcommer (DPC or not) a bit too much because he dosn't behave the right way. They may be trolls or ignorants. Try not to scare the ignorants away, inform them and they can reveal as great people. Remember how Rendus first complained about Dennis' "spamming" ? The issue was resolved in a quiet and sensible manner and we since appreciated his knowledge and experience (and blocks too).

Syst3m, you asked Russ to mail you, he won't do it. I think he understood, Why ask again ?

Quitters, back before xmas, after a vacation, I had a personnal crisis with DC. I didnt feel like watching my stats, posting in the forum, hanging on IRC. There was an ongoing argument here just like now (cant remeber about what !), DC wasnt fun anymore, and I lost commitment. So I just read the topics once a day, read the threads that seemed important, like people asking for some help, and didn't bother about anything else. I just let my cows loose, my pproxy and the round robin work well unattended. My involvement has been down for a while, but no spare cycle was lost. I knew that I would come back, and that no other place could replace this one. Please dont quit. Lurk or go out, spend more time with your friends and family if you happen to have some, let it loose and just wait for things to get better. Good people leaving wont make the team any good, if that's what you believe.

Sorry for the long post, I promise I won't bump this again .If this doesn't make sense to you, raid the fridge.
