FWIW, locally can I can get 3090's for like $700. 3080s are approaching $500, and a 3080ti/12GB usually splits the difference at $600 and so is a total non starter, expect you get to skip the tax. Yep, used. But are we just going to ignore their existence?

The point being a GPU is judged by how well it GPU, first and foremost. How well does it play games.

The 4070 brings a nice card to a price point where could have already had for a while now a card that games as well. Yeah, power usage, yeah DLSS3.

But how well it games? It's barely crossing the finish line in terms of how little it could do for the price.

Which is fine. Obviously nvidia wanted to extract the most value possible out of the SKU. We don't need to fake enthusiasm about it, however.

Last april is vastly different from last fall, when you could get 3090's for under $1k any day of the week, and yeah, the 3080s were cheaper than that.

Oh man, just looked at Microcenter. That $100 steam card offer does make them look $100 cheaper and they have 25+ of a couple in stock... $499 is a much more magical price IMO.

AND THE GLORY OF IN STOCK GPUS!!! $200 6600, $400 3060 ti, the deal on the 4070, 6800xt at $550, 7900XT at $760, and even a 4090 for $1600 with the same $100 steam coupon... and you could just walk in! With money! And walk out with a GPU! UNDER MSRP!!! Like the golden age of several years ago! WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!

lol, seriously though, it did make me happy to scroll through pages of in stock stuff.
This post, I like it.

DLSS 3 is a slap in the face of previous gen owners. Now they know what GTX owners feel like. :D Or to express it in a more Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra way -

Today, there is another ~50$ price drop from big Polish retailer x-kom. 2759PLN, which is ~5% lower than the the last lowest reported by videocards.com 6 days ago.

Dropping like a rock. We are slowly recovering :D Still a long way to go.

Turning off motion flow is the first thing I have done with every new TV I have bought in the last 10+ years and now I'm supposed to turn it back on because Nvidia says so? :tearsofjoy:
Add me to that club. soap opera effect is terrible when watching a movie.

I'm not a fan of frame generation by the GPU, but I don't think it really relates to the soap opera effect.

That effect is more due to the difference between more cinematic recordings that start on film at 24fps vs footage shot with 60fps (interlaced) video cameras. Our brains have been conditioned to see the 60fps video as "cheap", because it was historically used in lower-budget shows (e.g. soap operas).

I don't know anybody that prefers playing games in 24fps.

Just a quick reminder. The 3070 original MSRP was $499. Some AIB models sold for $550 when the cards were released. So with the collapse of crypto and inflation that never existed in the high end semiconductor sector.

4070 vs 4070ti, is it worth the extra $200?

24% better performance for 33% more money.

Honestly not a bad bump for what you get. Outside of simply being outside of someone's budget, the 12 GB of VRAM means that the Ti will hit the VRAM wall at the same time as the non-Ti, so the $200 isn't buying any longevity.

I have a feeling that in three or four years we'll be looking at benchmarks comparing a 6800 XT and these cards to show how 16 GB of VRAM is the real bottleneck for some games. Of course we'll be too busy arguing whether the 16 GB in the 6070 is sufficient and whether the ability of DLSS to beam generated frames directly into your mind is enough to justify the $1000 price point to care.

LOL that's brilliant. I can see it now -

People want Affordable cards, not over priced cards barely, if even that, able to use the newest tech touted about it. Add in how Nvidia's planned obsolescence may kick in far sooner than expected, these prices become even more absurd.

Bets on when the capitulation happens. I don't know if the execs are so isolated that they can't see what is happening outside of their bubble, or they really think conditions will improve soon. Delusional either way.

Wow, roughly 60 4070 cards there in one store?
Haha, at least. That's the secret behind the door overstock, not counting the shelfs or perhaps the bit of racking they have in the back.

MC's are infamous for stocking their relatively small footprints to the brim like they are a warehouse club store or something. There might a lot of more of those things squirreled away.

It's fairly amazing compared to 24 months ago or so when all of them would have been under lock and key. Just from the way they are being stored, you can tell they are worth so much less now.

Clearly people are morons for not buying them.

I love the comment sections where people point out AMD should have won the "Performance" section, but they basically argued "but DLSS and RT!". THen for "Features and Technology" it gets another win because of DLSS and RT.

They have done basically the same thing in many CPU comparisons where Intel gets an extra win or two because of "duplicate categories", if you will. Paul Alcorn who does the CPU's doesn't even try to hide it. Most of them also have a years old continuing thread that is locked so you can't even point it out.

Jarred Walton has seemed to be unbiased, but this one is pretty bad.

To most people, it probably isn't. I'd much rather have a 4070, than 6950, for many of the indicated reasons. Plus the 6950 XT is MUCH more expensive at my preferred vendor (Amazon.ca).

At Amazon.ca the cheapest 6950 XT is $1280 CAD, vs $799 CAD for the RTX 4070.

I'd consider 6800 XT ( $929 CAD) instead if it was significantly less, but it is also more expensive than an RTX 4070.

But I am more looking at the 6650 XT, RTX 3060, 6750 XT, while waiting to see where new cards fit into this segment.

Thing is, the 4070 Ti appears to be selling at least somewhat okay.

I think it's just evidence that releasing new Entry Level and Mid range cards is just a bad idea right now.

I think it's just evidence that releasing new entry and mid range cards for more than the price of previous flagships was always a bad idea. $900 for a 70-class card is so sickening I can't believe it's a reality, and $600 for what should be a $250 60 class is even more sickening.

Lo and behold:

That isn't Amazon, that's the third party marketplace which is the minefield I'm avoiding. You are aware there is a massive difference between buying from Amazon, and from the third party mareketplace?

Even the cheapest 6950 at third party is still $200 more than 4070 from Amazon. It's terrible value.

Even $777 6800 XT is only $23 less than 4070, from sketchy "OneDealOutlet". At $700 CAD from Amazon themselves, I might consider a 6800 XT, but $23 less from sketchy dealers, it would never even cross my mind.
