Sadly ive been keeping a running tab on what ive spent on this car. with car included i have about $4271 so Far but thats ok with a value in the 7-8k Range im still well below buying one in good shape and i know all the services will be done!

Going to sell it when all is said and done, or do something nuttier with it?

That engine bay have so many hoses, I'd imagine it would be a nightmare later down the road.

Nah, it just looks like alot because it's a flat four so you have have doubles and crossover tubes and stuff. I could probably name 95% of them having never worked on it just by seeing what they are connected to.

I hate you and Jlee both. Whats next "found a Supra TT for $500 just needs a radiator hose" :p

What I want to see are more crazy engine swaps, like "I got a Miata with exploded engine for $500 and a totaled 6-cyl Taurus SHO with running engine for $500, what to do with them..." :sneaky:

I don't have the car wrenching skills/patience like some of you guys so I have to live vicariously through y'all. :(

Speaking of SHO... I saw a SHO badge the other day but it wasn't on a Taurus. Wonder if the pic came out on my camera phone.

Something similar might be happening when Black2NA and I pick up a 0-mile Duratec V6 crate motor that I found for free...

I may drive up to NH and kill you both someday.

In the meantime, I'll wait for the "hey, we found a free Miata without a motor!" thread.

Nice find! Can't wait to see the complete product.

I seriously need to find an auto enthusiast up here in the Bay Area with a garage... My wrench turning urge is driving me mad, slowly.

Update time Folks! On saturday night while JCH13 and i were working on getting his Snow tires on and wheels painted i finally got all the needed gaskets and RTV to be able to Put the timing setup back together.

Water pump and oil pump back sealed gasketed and o-ringed up and put back onto the block.
WRX+136.jpg

Tensioners gears and T-Belt Timed up and put back on the motor. took us a decient amount of time to make sure everything was ok and i was more concerned about correct timing then pictures so no pictures of in process

WRX+137.jpg

Derpy JCH13 well....just cause he was in the way
WRX+138.jpg

and the timing cover back on with the crank pulley reinstalled. thus making the nerve racking part of all this work over and done with the rest of this should be a cake walk spun the motor over by hand without the sparkplugs in and there is no binding and spins nicely

WRX+139.jpg

Thats all for now either tomorrow night or Weds i will be putting the finishing touches on the motor in the form of a New Alumnium oil pan and pick up (Thanks Jlee!) and just put the new plugs in and this weekend the motor should go in with all hopes!

Well put another 2 days into the WRX and while going over the motor and installing other parts i found the turbo inlet was torn and i needed to change it. for anyone who has done one its a HUGE PITA the intake manifold needed to come off. which sucks!
Manifold off new motor waiting for me to remove other inlet.
WRX+141.jpg

Didnt feel like taking the manifold off the old motor so i let some anger and agression out.
WRX+142.jpg

all this for this small part
WRX+140.jpg

Got the top end all sorted out and back together and the turbo bolted back to the car. then the start of the install on the lower half and the hidden shiney bits! now anyone who knows subarus are prone for the oil pickup to crack and lose pressure. that leads to this upgrade Jlee had a Killer B Oil pickup, windage tray and high capacity oil pan that he no longer needed with the purchase of the CTSV and all. so i got those and a set of XT alloys from him.
Windage tray and Pickup installed
WRX+143.jpg

Fumoto Oil Drain and 1/2 NPT plug installed
WRX+144.jpg

pan installed
WRX+146.jpg

then with the motor FINALLY FINALLY done and checked over it was ready to install back into the car. about 2 hours of struggling and fighting i got it in. installing a motor on your own certainly is hard
End Result for today
WRX+145.jpg

That was all for today all said and done i worked on my own car from 10:30 this AM to about 7:30PM but tomorrow is another day and hopefully it end with a youtube video of the first fire of the car since i took ownership! Cross your fingers for me ATG!

Man dropping an engine on your own is big time. I am way to chicken-explitive- to try it on my own. BIG PROPS!!!

Great work man!!

Nice, taking screws and shit off the windshield wiper surround platic is key. I've found screw drivers in there after weeks or driving before.

I found 3 snap on wrenches there in the wiper surround area on a car I bought a few years ago that must have been there for years. I bet the guy emo rage quit after he couldnt figure out the cars problem.

I love the first drive after a big project. The fear of explosion/doom really highlights the day lol
