$40 Million Inauguration, $35 Million Tsunami Aid

Bush's inauguration is gonna cost most likely over $40 million and yet we sent only $35 million to aid for the tsunami disaster. Care to disagree?

Hey look - another Bush-bash thread yapping about gov't disaster funding. I guess we should just forget about the private DONATION aspect. Oh wait - that'd make this apples to oranges comparison even more ridiculous than it already is.

Oh and I best not forget this: :cookie:

Link to where he pledged more?

Google Colin Powell's (you know, the guy that works for the President) statements from this week.

Do you cut and paste this drivel over and over in threads on purpose? or do you have the quip bleat and run down to a knee jerk reaction?

Google Colin Powell's (you know, the guy that works for the President) statements from this week.

The U.S. State Department said an additional $20 million in aid will be added to the $15 million the United States has already pledged for nations hit by the tsunamis.

In addition, said Powell, nine patrol planes and 12 C-130 cargo planes packed with relief supplies were on their way to southern Asia.

Link

or were you referring to the

"We're in early days and the response has so far been overwhelmingly positive," he [Egeland]added."

Clinton spent $42 million. Where's all the hoopla with his inauguration cost? He spent more than bush will, notwithstanding inflation.

Take the plank out of your eye before you inspect the speck of sawdust in others.

The inauguration is estimated to cost $30 million to $40 million, which private donations will cover. The estimate includes security costs not covered by the federal and local government. Security is expected to be tight for the first inauguration since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Now STFU

Actually it is $15 Million in aid and $20 Million in loans which makes it look even more pathetic considering US spends hundreds of millions a day to bomb $hit out of other countries in the name of "liberty".

That was in the early days before the death-toll even reached 50,000. All these countries are pledging more AFTER the death toll increased to more than that amount. What does Congress do in return? Well, their drafting a relief bill that could authorize hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars. Now, please donate money to help those in need as opposed to treating this like it's a telethon. Don't criticize or underestimate the heart of the American people and their President. If you want to see what we'll do for those in need, all you have to do is look in your history book.

As much as I would love to bash Bush on this one, it was private money donated for the party (of course it's in hopes to get special favors and legislation) and US companies have donated far more for the relief effort.

Bashing on other things closely related are just fine and openly encouraged! 😀

I know the US donation will BE HUGE.. WAY MORE THAN 35 Mil..

But why should any president WASTE $40,000,000 on a party? I BASHED Clinton for the same thing..

These Innaugurations are Bullsh!t.. $40,000,000 ???? of my tax money -- they could use that in so many better ways...

I agree 100%. Is the money we're donating enough? I hope not but as a nation I'm certain we'll give more and more and it's needed. The lion's share of hte donations for inaugurations are from PRIVATE DONORS. HOw many times does this need to be said? For fvcks sake will you guys get over your righteous indignation and LEAST get the facts striaght. That said I'm still going to grab a barfbag anytime I hear Bush speak (can't make a post without meeting my Bush-flaming quota 🙂 ).

It's all private donations - i.e. money post election used by corporations to try to influence legislation and favors. There is no limit, but generally most of the top donors (i.e. Oil companies this year) offered $250,000 per company.

1st - it's donations...

2nd - The bulk of the $40,000,000 is to cover the 9 private balls throughout DC on Ing. night.

they also forget the cost of sending out a naval task force. im willing to bet as of now the US has contributed over $200 million counting private donations. but all the liberals see is "only 35mil???!?!?!111one" because thats all that is upfront, the rest is behind the scenes and they dont seem to mention it.
