Well that really depends on how you look at it. By joining the TeAm (which is free BTW) you get the following:

1) Fast and helpful tech support. TeAm members crawl over themselves to help a fellow TeAm member.
2) First crack at FS/FT by TeAm member. Often TeAm members will let another member of the TeAm have first crack at any FS/FT they may have.
3) Free hardware. Sometime members give away hardware to another TeAm member under the condition that it run a DC project.
4) Fun with Stats and competitions.

So you get all that for free.....I would call that a really really HOT DEAL!

Anyone who reads this who is not already a member of the SETI TeAm, I challenge you to simply click here and follow the steps and crunch just one WU. Then, if it wasn't so bad, try another and then another. When you get to 10 ask yourself, is this kinda cool? If so, keep on crunching, hitting those milestones and enjoying the fun of Team Anandtech SETI in the race against DSLR and the hunt to catch Hardware France!

No offense, but all of the time you guys are putting towards seti, you should be spending on finding the cure for cancer, or diabetes.

you can choose one of three diseases to work on, much of the same way as seti, and this hits closer to home. Frankly, i think this has a better chance of helping, other than getting work units that serve no purpose, and i should know, i have been doing seti since the first month it was started. And i have now devoted all my machines to this new cause.

To each his own. I actually run both the UD Cancer project and SETI at the same time. The cancer program works very slowly. I know what you mean though. A cure for cancer seems much more tangible and relevant than an alien signal.

Even if you run the cancer research program, there's still a Team AnandTech you can join.

most of the time alot of us at TA participate in other projects which we encourage you to do the same, right now for the race alot of us have put the projects aside to kick some royal booty, (which we are doing I might add) but we need more, we can't do it with what we have at the moment. Please join us.

The race is only another month and then I plan on switching some of the production to the protein folding project and maybe a little toward the one on Anthrax.

For now, it's a good-natured race and now we're losing ground to the French as they seem to have stepped up the recruiting efforts on their end so we need more...more...MORE!!

The Race is nearly at the halfway point...we need to pour it on and move ahead....and we need to pick up the pace to catch the HW France team...who have turned on the jets since we've moved up right behind them! :Q
