Before the current system I have, I used Omega Drivers for my 9500 non-pro, at first because they included the softmod to unlock rendering pipelines and later because I noticed an improvement in framerate. I'm trying to maximize my Oblivion performance and IQ, so I'll be trying the 84.30s hosted by Tweaksrus as well as several of their customized versions. Until now I've only used Nvidia's WHQL drivers and some of the beta releases at Nzone.com. We'll see if it makes a difference-- my belief is that so many variables affect performance it's useless to bash a tweaked driver for taking away FPS or praise them as a magic bullet guaranteed to add FPS. That said a magic bullet for Oblivion would be very nice right now, and no, I can't afford to buy an X1900XTX. =^)

We at Tweaksrus are always trying to make the driver have better IQ with out the performance loss. Sometimes the driver tweaks out good and we get a gain on both.

If your intersted we have the stock 84.30 up for download, which seems good as I'm still in the testing stage.

How about giving an example rather than banal statements of how you make you make IQ better w/o performance loss because frankly I'm not seeing it. Same shimmering (flags inside arena matchmaking hold noticable), same image with a slight performance loss with your drivers. (only tested oblivion thus far)

7800GTX @500/1300
1680x1050 (driver defaults)
AA and AF off
Vsnyc off
Render ahead 0 frames w/ nVtweak
HDR on
All details max

nV 84.25 Outdoor woods fraps says 24 FPS avg
XG84.22 V2 Outdoor woods says 20 FPS avg

I'm sorry you feel this way... but drop into the tweakrus forum and you most likely find a answer there. And you will find benches stating the complete reverse of your statements.

But all computers are different so they take to the tweaks alittle differently..........;)

Nvidia play it safe when the release drivers. Their no.1 priority is COMPATIBILTY with least issues in all systems with NV cards. Modded drivers tweak the settings to improve IQ/performance BUT sometimes with the penalty that these settings may not be optimal with all systems (and may even cause issues with others). But with those that they work well, the results can be gratifying.

makes sense, 84.25 were optimized for Oblivion

"NVIDIA's developer relation team worked closely with Bethesda to optimize game performance, which also included making some driver changes to fix/enhance performance in certain areas"

So I tried the 84.22s. I saw no difference. Shimmering still there, still get random black screens in oblivion. Gonna try the 84.30s . . .
