The K6 and the Athlon classic Slot A CPU's arent being made anymore, infact they havent been in production for some time!
Olias' original post included the Socket-370 P3-Coppermine, which was introduced in October 1999. A level comparison would then include the Slot A Athlon (last model release in March 2000) and the K6-2/K6-3 (last model release in June 2000). If you're going to admonish Intel for two processors that have outlived their usefulness (Coppermine (Socket-370 and Slot-1) and Socket-423 P4), you may as well include outdated AMD processors that existed during the same time frame.

AMD only have one universal socket through all their CPU range, unlike INTEL!!
Wow, you have shown me the light. Those who say this is a tired old argument are wrong. I'm sure the reason behind this strategy has nothing to do with the fact that AMD is a smaller company and can't support the infrastructure for multiple socket platforms. I bet it's actually because AMD is an altruistic charity whose goal is to help out the common man's struggle.

What are you an idiot?...Oh btw...*uck you
How good of you to present your argument in a well-thought manner without resorting to insults or derogatory remarks (and with spelling and grammar that is above reproach).

In case you missed the dripping sarcasm in my post, here's a smiley for you. ;)

On a more serious note, for those who stuck up for me, thanks. :) God forbid that one should try to level a (useless) comparison without being attacked by fanboys. Now they probably think I hate AMD, which couldn't be further from the truth....

I was just curious as to the reason for the emotional investment in one brand over another?

Why the importance placed on maintaining the same socket? I mean really, what does it matter to average Joe computer user or to upgrade Sam (much like serious sam). Average Joe just wants his computer to work and usually uses upgrade Sam's to upgrade his system anyway or simply buys a new one. Upgrade Sam is smart enough to buy a new motherboard that supports new AGP cards, memory and the correct chip. Since upgrade Sam is smart enough to know what board to get to support the chip/memory/video card that he is upgrading with does the choice of sockets really matter at all?

There are real pluses to buying AMD and real pluses to buying Intel. You should concentrate on the real advantage/disadvantages if your going to be a fan. I was nice and didn't use "fanboy".

I just like whatever is best at the time that fits in my budget.

Does it matter?

New CPU = new technology
new techonology = new chipset/memory controller/etc.
new chipset/memory controller/etc = new motherboard

i can only presume that olias and viper (and the rest) will berate amd when hammer comes out. after all, they'll require different sockets, too.

sohcan is an idiot? if olias wasn't talking about cpu's that aren't made anymore, then why did he include the coppermine and s423?

besides, i thought people got "vacations" for personal attacks such as "*uck you".
