The first of many posts like this I suspect

No doubt.....eb games has no more in stock and their return policy is that I can only exchange it if defective...who knows if they'll even consider it defective....they'll probably say I'm paranoid but all 5 pixesl are in the bottom left of the screen around the border and just pissing me off.....I'd rather pay $300 and get a no-dead pixel screen then $250 wasted on garbage

but its like brand new

For those who have one, I hear it says this in the manual:

"Red, blue or green spots (bright spots) or black spots (dark spots) may appear in certain locations of the LCD screen. The appearance of such spots is a normal occurrence associated with LCD screens and is not a sign of a malfunction."

If so, 😀... who does Sony think they're fooling? A dead pixel isn't a sign of a problem?

They are taking the p!ss but every manufacture of LCD of decent quality get problems with dead pixels though. The LCD process is not perfect and no one can make them perfect unless they just scrap the screens with a few dead pixels = jacking up the cost to produce.

But if Nintendo can do it Sony could also but they want to save money 😛

I just picked up my PSP from gamestop and there are about 2-3 dead pixels. I wouldn't be that pissed but one of them is RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. Wow...talk about totally losing all interest in the PSP in a matter of seconds. After I saw that, I just turned off my PSP and put it back in the box, without even trying any of the games or movies. Gamestop informed me about purchasing a $30 extended warranty if I wanted to replace the PSP with a dead pixel free unit. Otherwise, they won't be exchanging it with another one. Is there anyway to circumvent this policy? What should I do?

Return it and buy it from Costco.

Just bought one today - 3 dead pixels. I only noticed one at first, and they're only visible on a black screen, nevertheless they are still there. I'm going to try and get a replacement at Walmart, if not, i'm getting my money back. This is pretty ridiculous, i mean the system itself is pretty awesome, but the lack of care on Sony's part. A big downer on such a good system; I've never seen such a huge problem thats so widespread, nor experienced it myself with launch systems.

Ok. Third time was charm. My first one that I got Thursday night had one big dead pixel (more like a pixel clump). The second one that I got last night had 3 small dead pixels. The one I got today....has none! 🙂 *Knocks on wood*. Yayyy! The easiest way to tell seems to be with a completely black background. The dead pixels come up white. I check it in the begining of the credits on Spiderman Movie.

Here's what I have, let me know if this is worth turning in - I may be just really picky: (1) A couple dead pixels, (2) some litlte bumps near the buttons on the right side, (3) a very light scratch which appears to be under the surface and can only be seen when the unit is off and in a certain light, and (4) I believe the UMD motor makes too much noise - I have nothing to compare this too though.

Any thoughts?

So? just use it till they do have a replacement in stock. call first, of course, and try not to damage it. 🙂

I bought it from EB Games - how cool are they about returns? Also, I bought it in Jersey and live in nyc, you think I can just take it back elsewhere?

I was skeptical of getting a first gen PSP as I was like most of you worried about QC issues and bugs, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones with nothing wrong with mine. Can't wait until today is over so I can go home and play.

So you bought a PSPortable so you can leave it at home and play it then? Heh.

I'd rather not take chances and wait for the second or thirt batch of these to come in. Maybe then Sony will have this problem solved. Or maybe I'll fall into temptation and ... yeah.

Mine has one red dead pixel on the bottom left corner. The pixel is so tiny for a screen of that size that it's hardly visible under normal gaming conditions, unless it's painted against a black background.

I brought it with me to work but, I was too busy to really sit down any play it.

1 dead pixel on mine. Stuck white unfortuneately, but in a corner, so its not too bad. PSP is teh rockorz! Wish I could have gotten untold legends. I had to settle for dysnaty warriors.

got mine saturday, no dead pixels.

pretty solid unit. it did freeze on me once in THUG2 but i just took out the battery and turned it back on, haven't had a problem since.

loving it so far. the photo thing is kind of useless. few things i wish were different, ability to play songs while looking at pics and ability to change the background.

I bet sony purchased some one else rejected LCD screens.

i bought one last night, had 4 dead pixels and numerous what looked like dust particles stuck under the screen... exchanged it today and got the exact same result in different places... great... so now i have to go back and try to exchange it again...

does anyone know if target puts a limit on electronics exchanges? i refuse to settle for this crap when i spent $250 on this hand held... 1 dead pixel would be fine, but 4+ is not acceptable...

if i wasnt a lemming i wouldnt have bought it in the first place... but the lure of playing all my buddies in the office when we're slow was too strong...

Damn. I just checked my PSP out closely last night and found at least 4 dead pixels.

Friend tells me the US versions use a Samsung display while the Japanese version uses a Sharp display.
