Well, I take that back. It appears my PSP has two dead pixels. Although dead might not be the correct term. On a black screen, they are very obviously lit white. But on a color screen, they are either blending in, or are actually working. Needless to say, I don't notice them at all while gaming, and am not going to return it.

Sucker, there have been numerous posts about this on different forums.
It's a overpriced piece of junk.
Have fun waiting for your new one, which will undoubtedly break in the same manner.

At another forum I read, someone went to target and got theirs, got it home and it had 3 stuck pixels. He went back and they opened four more, finding one with no pixels, but a scratch across the entire face, one with a chipped screen corner and dust under the screen, and one with even more dead pixels. The 5th psp he got was fine.

As cool as the PSP looks, I think I'm going to hold out on buying one, maybe until the first price drop (if it ever happens). They should have the bugs worked out by then and the homebrew software scene should be going good. It'd be awesome if someone made a UMD-CF adapter too, if that's even possible.

I know everyone has different experiences with different manufacturers, but Sony routinely puts out gaming systems that have subpar quality. PS1, PS2, and now the PSP. Yet people keep buying them, and I don't understand why.

I was skeptical of getting a first gen PSP as I was like most of you worried about QC issues and bugs, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones with nothing wrong with mine. Can't wait until today is over so I can go home and play.

ones with dead pixels should be sold at discount. full price for defective product is unacceptable.

this is not Sonys fault... any LCD screen sufferes from dead pixels...
i guarantee most of your monitors out there have at least 2... its just more noticeable on a smaller screen..

It's also more noticable when they're stuck white vs. another color.

Worst I've seen in person was 7, 5 white 1 red 1 blue. 5/7 were in the leftmost 1/3 of the screen from top to bottom.

And I mean bright white.

Hehe....thanks for the laugh :) ............

I am glad that everyone else feels the same way I do.....personally if I had a single dead pixel happen outside the return policy I wouldn't stress over it as I'm aware it's one of the drawbacks to LCD's but when you get one right oughtta the box that's just Sony not having good QC.

lol, your psp has dead pixels = sony not having QC? How ignorant can you get? If there were alot of people with the same problem I would understand....

There ARE a lot of people with the same problem

I have 3 if you connect the 3 dead pixels with lines I will have a triangle on the the screen lol. After Sony's support hang me up I give up on sony I guess I have to live with the dead pixel on my PSP. I should have bought my PSP at Costco this way I can return it until I got one with no dead pixel.

Back in Decemeber I was in Hong Kong I could have bought one back than. The way they sell PSP in Hong Kong after you pay for the PSP the store will open the PSP and let you check if there are any dead pixels. If there are dead pixels they will open another one until you get one that is no dead pixels. I guess they ship all the ones with dead pixels to the US........

I don't know what Sony's QC is shooting for, but 4 pixels is about 5.5 sigma. 6 sigma would be .5 pixels per unit.

You must work in the aerospace industry! :)

I would read the fine print to make sure...that sounds fishy and he probably makes some sort of com. off of the warranty sale.

DEFINATELY read the FINE PRINT.

I had a jewellery store stay that if the 'class/ whatever the thing on the front of the watch is 'scratched' it would be REPLACED'

I asked to see the fine print and I read through it. It SPECIFICALLY says it is NOT COVERED.

WTF

STUPID sales staff.

I of course did not buy the policy...

If Sony ships a PSP with that many dead pixels on a tiny screen, then yeah, they have bad QC.
The question is did it slip through QC, or does Sony find it acceptable to have 4 dead pixels on the screen.

That is basically it.

The PSP sells at a LOSS so I can't imagine them 'bothering' to have as strict QC as they do on say their 23" LCD's or products that DO make a PROFIT for them...

I've got a bunch of Sony stuff and they have all lasted very well.

Koing

it sells at a loss?

that doesnt make sense...why make a product that costs you money?

Sony makes their money off licensing fees they charge game developers/publishers.
Irc MS took a loss of 50 bucks per console when the xbox first came out. Gilette uses a similar business model, they will give you a razor handle for free and make cash off razor replacements.

Yup that is pretty much it.

They make money off the games seeing as quit a few each year sell a couple of million copies!

For those who have one, I hear it says this in the manual:

"Red, blue or green spots (bright spots) or black spots (dark spots) may appear in certain locations of the LCD screen. The appearance of such spots is a normal occurrence associated with LCD screens and is not a sign of a malfunction."

If so, :D... who does Sony think they're fooling? A dead pixel isn't a sign of a problem?
