did you make sure to use 99924 (2T) for command rate? because you're using 4 sticks.

^ this setting may be labeled dram command rate, or dram command "mode"

Also you can increase VCCIO to 1.1-1.15, try to stay under 1.2, this should help memory stability when using so many sticks

Not sure I just changed the timing to 9-9-9-24. I will have a play with it once I get my cpu stable.

Thanks!

Stress testing is going well. At the moment I have a clock speed of 4.8Ghz, vcore 1.38v (bios) and 1.28v OCCT, max temp of 70 degrees and prime 95 has been running for 3 hours now. Previous setting of 1.27v failed prime95 after 2 hours and 25 minutes.

So if 1.28v passes 10 hours of prime95 would you say its stable enough to keep or do I need to run a different stress test like OCCT or IBT?

if prime passes 10 hours, that's good enough. throw IBT at it.

been running prime for 4 hours and 30 minutes now and its all good. How long should I run IBT for?

damn, what time is it in australia, you've been up all night?

Do 5 runs of IBT, monitor your temps carefully, do not open more than 1 temp monitor programs at the same time, since they read from the same censors, this can cause conflict.

make sure to use "maximum" memory setting, and subtract 100mb if the program doesn't start, because it can do that sometimes when you use max memory

stick with occt. If you hit 90C, stop.

Its 12:28am right now. About to go to bed but got so much study to do.

Ok sounds good.

Thanks!

So for "Times to Run" do I put 5?

What stress level should I set?

Yikes, you're studying bro?

Now i'm gonna feel responsible if you do badly on ur test. :|

overclocking is very stressful on mental faculties.

use maximum stress level for IBT.

And if you pass 5 runs, do 1 run of extreme mode, right click on the start button, and click extreme mode, and press start

You system should freeze for like a minute or two, then come back.

you can't monitor temps, so make sure your fan is on HIGH. ^_^

Nah don't worry, I'm studying for my exams which are in two weeks so got plenty of time.

So I had prime95 running for 5hours and 50 minutes at 1.38v (bios) and 1.28v (OCCT) and then when I woke up (total of 14 hours) I had a BSOD. So then I changed it to 1.39v (bios) and ran 5 passed at maximum in IBT...bsod, 1.40v...BSOD, 1.41v...BSOD?? The thing is in OCCT at 1.41v it was showing vcore as 1.29v? Seems like it's not using all of the voltage I'm giving it. My tempts didn't go over 75 degrees/

What bsod are you getting 0x101? 0x124? Other?

Is your motherboard P67? Z68?

So I ran it again at 1.41v (bios) and it was running for ages and got max temp of 80 degrees, vcore in occt showed 1.29v-1.3v but I eventually got a BSOD and this is what it said:

0x00000101 (0xheaps of zeros...031,0x.......000, 0xFFFFF88003565180, 0x......002

I have a Z68 mobo (Asrock Extreme4 Gen3)

Easy fix, M0AR voltage ;)

No really, my IBT max temp is 88C, @ 30 C ambient.

what's ur ambient temp? Australia's hot no?

Why is the vcore in occt so low? I nearly passed the test just before as it went for ages. How long does 5 passes usually take? Just to make sure by MOAR do you mean more? haha

If I pass this test do you think I need to do one pass with extreme mode?

Yeah Australia is hot usually but at the moments its not that warm, about 25 C.

Cheers

Also the temps between my cores vary a bit. core 0 was about 69 C and core 1 and 2 were 80 C and then core 4 was like 71 C. Is this normal?

1.42v (1.3v occt) went for ages but eventually got a bsod and now I have it at 1.43v. Is it ever going to work? Seems like a big temp difference, 10 degrees between the cores.

It's normal. Has to do with the asymetric core layout and how the neighboring silicon on the die behaves as effective dark silicon.

So I'm at 1.43v run IBT and temps hit 87 degrees+ and I get BSOD. How am I supposed to pass the test when the cpu shuts off at 90 degrees? Does the IBT test finish or is it like prime95 were you just run it for a certain period of time?? I will never pass the test as if I increase vcore more my temps will go up even more. In OCCT my vcore was between 1.3v and 1.31v.

Hmmm.. this seems peculiar, I looked up my cpu cooler relative to yours, I use the thermaltake Frio, and according to frostytech, the two coolers have the exact same thermal profile.

My OCCT voltages peak at 1.36 and my hottest temp is core2 84C when my room is 25.

You might want to try re-seating the cooler, and making sure to apply a vertical line of thermal paste to the CPU as the sandy bridge core beneath the IHS is vertical.

tighten the screws a little more see if that helps being down the temps.

Ratio=47x
PLL Overvoltage=Enabled
CPU Voltage= 1.35v to 1.375v *ACTUAL*
PLL Voltage=1.7v
CPU Spread Spectrum=Disabled
V-Core PWM Mode=Extreme
VRM fixed=350
Phase Control=Extreme
LLC Calibration = 75%
All c-states=On

That should at least get you 4.6-4.7 stable and bring your temps down a ton.

Whats the best way to clean the existing thermal paste off? I will pull it apart tonight.

BD231:

I can't see any adjustments for phase control in my bios and few people have told me to have the c-states turned off. All the other settings are similar just my vcore is higher. What is your vcore in OCCT?

1.355v nets me 1.376v at full load in OCCT (using core temp voltage monitor). The phase control option just allows the adjustment of LLC and a few other things on my board, if you have those options available don't worry about it.

I don't know what's going on. So I pulled the hsf off cleaned the old paste off and applied some new noctua thermal paste (grain of rice) and the temps were better but I still couldn't pass IBT. vcore in bios is 1.44v and in occt 1.32v now and I ran IBT with 5 passes in maximum mode and it ran for 3 minutes and 47 seconds before the temps reached 89 degrees and I stopped it. No way of passing IBT as my cpu will blow up.

Here are some pictures of my current settings. Anything you can see I should change????

We have to rule out heat first, because it would seem your chip is capable.

did you do the rice grain, but a mildly long rice grain in a vertical line?

Also, crank up the air conditioning in your room if possible.

Yeah I did about a rice grain but stretched it out vertically along the whole cpu.

It's freezing outside but I have all the windows closed so I've opened them and it will be much cooler.
