4.7" HTC WP7 hand's on

I hope HTC made it that big so they could finally stuff an adequate battery into a phone for once... (I have an HTC Trophy) :\
 
Oooo, this is starting to get back to the 5" size I loved in the HTC Advantage(nee Athena) that I owned and enjoyed just a few years ago.

I do hope they haven't skimped on the battery again. I've been saddened by the weak 12-1800 mAH batteries in most of the recent large screen phones. Bring back the 3600 mAH battery HTC!
 
So it looks like WP7 isn't going dual-core this holiday season.

Again, I know it's all smooth and optimized and stuff, and I think the Infuse is pretty popular now, but this is going to be a tough sell as a high-end device by the time it releases.

As I said in the other thread, both Apple and the Android manufacturers (and all their combined fanboys) are going to be hitting the "dual-core makes my new phone awesome" meme pretty hard this holiday season after the launch of i5, SGS2, Vigor, etc. We've seen RIM, Nokia, and Palm/HP products be taken unseriously just on the spec issue and, while those products may have suffered way more from their lack of power than any Mango phone will, this sort of numbers-oriented perception is just the way of things in the tech arena.

Obviously there's still a market for non-halo products (and probably a bigger one), but I think the lack of a true halo device hurts the ecosystem as a whole.

Everyone has known for a long time that this generation of Windows Phones would be 2nd gen spapdragon. In fact, I believe you were bitching about it in another thread yourself. Feigning surprise is tiresome.

Anyone that has ever used WP7 in a serious capacity knows that it certainly does not suffer from slow processors. My Venue Pro running a first gen snapdragon still runs smoother than any dual core Android phone I have used. I'm sure these 2nd gen phones only run better.

Who cares about the hardware specs so long as the OS IS BUTTERY SMOOTH!

Android is fucking garbage compared to this, even when run on the of the line dual-core CPUs. The first gen WP7 phones are still smoother around the UI.

Yeah, that's been my experience too. All the Android phones have stuttering UIs while the WP7 is really smooth. I'm not sure what's up with those android phones since they have such better hardware.
 
Beats seems to be a great match for HTC. Cheap plastic-y headphones to go with your cheap plastic-y smartphone.

Seriously though, the Titan looks like a big step up from their previous designs (I'm a former Evo owner and current HD7 owner). It has a much better build quality with aluminum unibody design, what looks to be a WAY better camera, a quality screen, and a bigger battery (1600 mAh vs. HD7's lousy 1240 mAh). They managed to address every shortcoming I could find with the HD7. I'm impressed.
 
The titan is now the front runner to replace my focus later this fall. Just have to wait to see what nokia and samsung have coming out.

I thought the 4.5 Sprint SGS2 was bad.

One of the great wonders of the phone market is that Apple is the most popular phones in the older demographic while they push high PPI screens that forces those old folks to use reading glasses to type on their phone.

Meanwhile competitors are making phones with such low PPIs they make a Jitterbug look like a Razr and most of the love they get is in the geek community.

WVGA at 4 or 4.3 I can live with (and still dream of higher resolutions). WVGA at 4.7 is epic fail.
 
Yea, if these companies want to push bigger screen sizes, higher resolution screens really become necessary. I thought my HD2 (WVGA @ 4.3") was already pushing it. However, that aspect of this phone isn't fully HTC's fault. 800x480 is the only resolution for WP7. They couldn't raise it if they wanted to. And as a dev - the SDK is not designed with any other resolution in mind, so haphazardly adding a new resolution would be a disaster.

IMO the solution is to make a smaller screen....

Damn WP7 seems destined to play catch-up.

First it can't keep up with the big feature of 2011 (dual-core) and now it looks like it will fall behind the big feature of 2012 (HD screens).
 
I imagine at some point - maybe next year's big release - they'll add support for higher resolutions, possibly with some sort of scaling option for apps that don't support the new resolution, not unlike what Apple did with the iPhone 4. We won't see those devices for awhile, though.
