You might consider getting three eIPS monitors and using them vertically (like this: http://www.amazon.com/NEC-EA231WMI-B.../dp/B002LARVYK, or the Dell 23" eIPS). They can be found for less than $300 each, so for the same price as a quality 30" monitor you can get 3240x1980 and a lot more screen real estate. For that you'd need an ATI video card, though - like 5850s.

I don't think Vertical configuration is best for 3D and design work. I know I like widescreen (not that together it wouldn't be, but programs like cad only use 1 monitor). That would be badass for gaming though...

Can someone explain this to me? Vertically? does he mean buy 3 and stack them on top of each other? or flip the 3 90 degrees and put them side by side.

thats a tough call.. kind of like the 1 big screen as opposed to breaks in the middle of the screens.. 900 bucks is a nice price but for 2k i can get my 30" at pretty killer resolution.

3 vertically.. is this really done much? seems odd.. anyone use this and like it?

I have 2 monitors at work and I like it a lot...

The ladder. Flipping them vertically I'm guessing.

Edit: Cad is going to be a bitch with that config, just to let you know, and if it were stacked you'd get so many neck cramps. I like dual monitors, because it keeps you turning your neck so it doesn't get cramped working.
