Wait, im confused. WWDC was billed as a landmark event, in more ways than one. It seemed to be all iPhone, no?

It's a good price, but I think I'll stick with my current iPhone for now. 3G and GPS aren't all that important to me. I know plenty of people complain about it, but I've never had an issue with Edge speeds as long as I have a full signal (And if I can't get a good signal, i doubt 3G would help anyway 😛 )

Yea.. not sure what else they have, but there's still 4 more days, right?

Probably iPhone + OS 10.6, thats what theyve announced so far.

so i'm confused . . . I have an iphone right now with the AT&T contract. if I were to buy the iphone 3G, can I just activate it using my existing iphone plan or do I need to resign another 2 year contract with AT&T? If I were to jailbreak my new iphone, can I still use my old plan and access 3G?

That seems to be a question that no one knows for sure right now. But it actually seems possible that you can buy it for $200 and add it to your existing plan. But not clear.

this just has to do with iphone firmware 2.0, but it looks like the ical calendars are colorized, not the standard blue like the current firmware.

So how much is it going to be, total, a month for a reasonable amount of minutes and unlimited text/data? $80? $100? A bazillionty?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

From what it sounds like, just add $10 to these

http://www.wireless.att.com/ce...ials/iPhoneCenter.html

$120 a year to get 3G on a phone as opposed to EDGE? I don't find that unreasonable. That's like what gas costs me per week now lol.

The scoop on contracts:

http://gizmodo.com/5014748/con...u-get-a-3g-iphone-free

"If you signed a 2-year contract with AT&T when the iPhone came out (which you pretty much had to), you'll have to sign another new 2-year contract to score a new iPhone 3G. The good news is that AT&T will allow you to overwrite your old contract with your new contract. In other words, you're just locked into another 2 years, not 3."

So:
1. $199 8gb, $299 16gb
2. Black 8gb, White or Black 16gb
3. GPS + 3G
4. $10 more per month for new 3G service
5. You can overwrite your previous iPhone contract, but you'll have to sign up for another 2 years. But luckily it doesn't add up - it's just 2 years, not 3 years total.

the only way I'd be OK with the +$10/month increase was if they allowed FAN discounts on the accounts. I have a 23% FAN that can't be used due to the iPhone plans. Now if they increase it $10/month and still dont allow FANs forget about it. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

Frankly, I wonder sometimes just how much time people spend on their phone. I have the $60 basic plan with my iPhone, and I find that to be more than enough.

I know next to nothing about the iPhone, but from what I gather it needs to be activated with a carrier, so you can't stick a SIM in it or anything? How is it with international travel? Should I keep around an older SIM capable card so I can just pick up prepaid SIMs, or is there anyway to do something similar on the iPhone?

Also, how do the iPhones stand up to being dropped? I had an 80gb iPod video that I dropped literally once and the screen went white. I'm seriously considering picking up one of the new iPhones, but I don't want to get burned like I did with the iPod.

Also, is it possible to make calls over the wireless with it? Where I work I get no 3g/edge reception but am under a thick wifi blanket, so wifi calling would be a huge plus.

New iPhones must be activated in store?! Not available online?!
I really hope this isn't true, first of all for the sake of people waiting in line on release day...can you imagine having to wait for everyone in front of you to get their phone activated by a retail monkey and also because I want to jailbreak/unlock one and use it on TMo until my contract is up! CRAP!

Interesting, I may have been too quick to comment earlier.

Gizmodo is reporting that rather than using iTunes activation as previously thought, it may need to be activated in store (due to the subsidized cost)

lol, I was a little too slow.

That really sucks and makes me reconsider buying a 3G at launch entirely. Maybe I'll buy a used first gen one when the new firmware is out, unlock and use that until my TMo contract is up.

I don't think the first gen iphones had stock issues for too long, then again it was $400 more 🙂

AT&T will blow these out refurbed sooner or later without a contract, till then, I'm pretty happy with my gen 1, and I really want faster than 3G if I'm going to pay extra for it...

That in-store activation.. how will you jailbreak? You have to activate when you buy, so you have to eat the ETF if you cancel so you can JB? I know they won't let you cancel and not return the phone, so it's going to be interesting.

The guys over on HowardForums are saying that AT&T's only subsidizing the price for AT&T users eligible for an upgrade. That fucking sucks if it's true.

I wouldn't be surprised, this one is going to end up like all the other AT&T cell phones.
