I wouldn't be surprised, this one is going to end up like all the other AT&T cell phones.

Not to mention... now I'm gonna have to drag my ass to the AT&T store to purchase, and have it activated, which will be a nightmare for the first couple of months. AT&T is the fail.

Ehhh... So the $199/$299 price is only for users who are eligible for an upgrade?

How is screwing your current customers good for business?

I've been looking into it some more, and it appears the people who get the subsidized price are existing iphone users, new customers, or current customers eligible for an upgrade.

Uh...what else would they add?

The rumors about video chat don't make sense for two reasons:

1. 3G isn't fast enough yet to support it. They'll be there soon apparently, but not yet. Heck, you can't even get a webcam on a broadband connection to not skip at least once per session.

2. I'd imagine they wouldn't add video chat without some kind of auto-stabilization software, and the CPU inside the iPhone probably isn't powerful enough for that. Using stabilization software in Final Cut Pro takes forever on a quad-core machine with oodles of ram, so they'd need some kind of special chip in there combined with a high-res camcorder to cut it down so your face isn't shaky.

I can't really think of anything else. They added 3G. They added GPS. They're not going to upgrade the memory to 32gb until the iTouch gets 64gb (or whatever the next step in Flash memory is, be it 48gb or 64gb). The screen and multi-touch input is already perfect. They made the headphone jack flush-mounted. They changed the back to plastic to get better reception. I think it's all up to the software now.

I'm curious as to what, exactly, you are disappointed by?

basically its what the iphone should have been when it first came out, i'll admit i've never been a fan. bought it the first week it came out and returned it later. i wanted to see a new form factor and a snazzier design

what that design would have been who knows? but expectations are high

I think the thing looks amazing. I held out buying a 1st gen iPhone and the 3G has everything I want.

It is spooky watching some of the location demos though.

I wanna see the price without activation, confusing how it'll be sold. I do pre-paid from AT&T and have bad credit so signing a contract would probably require a huge deposit on my part. The specs say BT 2.0 so I'm assuming A2DP was added. I would have NO problem paying $500 for the 16 gig model if I can get it for that without a contract. Watching the entire keynote I feel they could have addressed MMS/IM, I was hoping they had added real support for both. But with what looks to be very solid 3rd party app support everything I could want will be out sooner or later.

I'm impressed overall, I have a semi stupid question, but if it gets that much better talk time on 2G what's the point of 3G voice, I understand 3G for data over Edge, but for voice what benefit is there in 3G?

Wonder if that pay as you go is a typo, I'll be upset if Limey UK bastards can get it pre-paid and in the US I'd be stuck needing a contract. Knowing AT&T I'm expecting the worst.

Apple will be selling the phones at their stores, so they'll be doing AT&T activations there too? hummmm...

You really don't get product cycles do you? iPhone 1.0 was the revolution.

In your opinion Apple should create a revolutionary phone once a year?

Has anyone heard anything official about Flash support?

Is it going to happen with the SDK?

I haven't seen anything from my end, but I know that Adobe would love to have it on the phone. That could end up being a selling point for Android, however, if it has Flash support but the iPhone doesn't.. among other things.

I'm not sure how they are going to enforce this, are they going to block ports needed for Exchange e-mail/ActiveSync?

I would just go in the store, tell them that I'm just using Internet, then do the Exchange activation at a later time. It's complete bullshit to pay an extra 15 bucks a month for Exchange e-mail, I refuse to do that.

Until they work these issues out, I'm staying with my existing iPhone. When Apple releases the 2.0 firmware and the devs certify it for unlocked iPhones, I'll upgrade mine and start using it. Currently, I'm using a BlackJack which is a drag compared to my iPhone - I just need Exchange support for my job.

EAS just works over port 80/443. I'm not sure how they could block it, but I'm sure they could filter traffic. It is AT&T afterall.

I guess it's "fair" as almost every provider charges more for their Blackberry Enterprise data plans, I just think it's BS. It's going to be a real pain to explain to my clients who want to use iPhones with Exchange servers that they have to pony up another $15/mo. Ah well, already have to do it with Blackberry users. So much for Apple simplifying things.

I think personally, I'm just going to buy a used first gen 16GB and use it with my current TMo account. This is just too much BS to deal with for minor improvements. Anyone want to sell their current iPhone for a reasonable price, unlike what people are asking on eBay & FS/T? :p

Yes, I'm sure AT&T will find a way to block it. I'm counting on the jailbreakers and unlockers to figure this out, as I am not paying an extra $15/mo just for access to my exchange email. That is ludicrous! And while it might be what they charge for Blackberry, that doesn't make it acceptable.

I hate all cellphone companies. They charge out the butt for everything and there isn't any way to get around it, aside from simply not using them.. but that's not an option for me.

This is ridiculous! I know that AT&T charges that for their Blackberry Enterprise support, but c'mon it's Exchange email... that's it! It's like charging extra for your cable internet to be able to go to MySpace. Stupid... stupid.

I'm hoping that the hacks come quick. But I will not pay more than the $30, as I'm sure that there will be a way around this. I'm positive. Well, about 95% sure anyway.

Hey, I'm totally with you on it being ridiculous. I'm just saying I understand their mindset behind charging more...hey, we already charge more for "enterprise" access to BESes, who else can we nickel and dime for using "enterprise" data?! But even the BES plans are getting to be ridiculous in their money-grubbingness. Lots of people use free (or pay) hosted Exchange services. Some people even run Exchange boxes at home. I wouldn't consider them "enterprise" users. Same goes for BES since Blackberry Express came about. Some people run Exchange & BES server at home since Blackberry started offering 1 CAL free.

Mostly, I want to know how AT&T is going to justify charging $30 (or $45) to customers who don't have 3g coverage in their home calling area.

Last I heard, ole Jobso has said that Flash would be too sluggish on the iPhone, which I am inclined to agree. Flash is already poorly implemented enough on OS X, and I am using a 1.83 Core Duo, I wouldn't want to run flash on the iPhone's constrained hardware.

An honestly, I have used my buddy's iPhone on a regular basis, I don't really miss the Flash.
