3dmark03 scores

I finally got 3d mark03 on my machine and scored 1535. Is that a good score for my machine?? I have a barton 2500 (stock) with 512 of pc2700 ram running in dual channel and a geforce4 ti4400 at stock speeds.

You won't be able to get very high numbers because you're limited in the number of tests you can run.
Someone else with a Ti4400 posted scores of around 1500 IIRC, so you're baout where oyu should be.

See my sig, I have a processor almost 2 years behind yours, 3dmark03 is totally GPU limited, if you got a newer card, your score would increase by leaps and bounds 🙂

I don't quite figure 2003 3D Mark to be completely GPU limited.

Old Rig: 2500 Barton 2.2 Ghz, KT333 4x AGP, 9800 415/620 Mhz 2003 Mark scored around 2500-3000.

New Rig: A64 2.2 Ghz, K8T800 8x AGP, 9800 415/620 Mhz with a score more than double. 6100.

I don't know why my Barton/KT333 was such a bottle neck.

Eh, your processor wasn't much of a bottleneck. The reason you got such a low score was because 3DMark 03 is a DirectX 9 test, and a Ti4400 isn't directX 9, whereas a 9800 is. I went from a XP2100 and FX5700U to an XP2800 and an FX5700U and only gained 200 points in 3D Mark 03.

Also, there is something very wrong with that first score, considering my XP2100 (worse than 2500) with an FX5700U (worse than a 9800 Pro) scored 3900 in 3DMark 03 (scores 4100 with new processor)

The FSB of an Athlon 64 is most likely your answer, that along with faster RAM I assume.

Well, I had PC3200 before and after the upgrade. But only the A64 was able to take full advantage of the faster ram. So I guess that would be it.

That is weird your scores. I had a 2.4 P4 9500Pro and got around 3000. Now got an A64 and it still scores around 3000 last time I ran it. Don't know the exact score but it was similar. Used the same drivers and settings both times.

Hi, looks to me that score is useing AA/AF,?. Those are the kind of scores I get with it turned on, (SimilarSpecs). OldRig

What's amazing is the 6800U is almost an order of magnitude faster than the 4400. 🙂

Reg, those first scores just look wrong. You probably had some other system misconfiguration that was bottlenecking the card, like an old or bad AGP driver. Ace's proved pretty conclusively that 3DM03 is GPU-limited with current cards. Your A64 will boost GT1 scores enormously, but GT2-4 should stay about the same. There's no way you'd double your score just moving to an A64; something else must have been wrong with your previous system.

That "Old Rig" score is skewed IMO it appears that AA and/or AF was enabled on the old rig.
I score @ stock 4717 on a AXP 2400+ and 5231 with a A64 3000+ also w/ a Radeon 9800NP.

Athlon XP 2400+ & Radeon 9800 *Stock* 3DMark03 score

I scored somewhere in the 5400 IIRC range with my XP2500+, 9800 Pro, 1GB RAM, Win2K.

it was either 5200 or 5400... heh. I thought it was decent either way.

hmm, with my barton and my overclocked 9800 pro i got 6232 as my 3dMark03 score. is that nice?

I would take that score, if ya' get my drift. 😉

[Whisper] I think he's hitting on you... [/Whisper] 😉

haha, yeah i was pretty shocked by the score, it took a bit of overclocking to get me there, but it was glory nonetheless

lol

I got a 1596 with an AMD 1900+ and 512 PC2100. Same vid card.

Man, CPU and ram speed must have no effect at all on the score.

This is odd I just did my run and scored around 3500 on three tries.

P4 1.3 (Socket 423)
512Mb pc800 Rdram
ATI 9500pro
WinME
latest drivers for WinME

Some of the CPU tests were choppy though. Might be time for a little upgrade for this 3 year old lol.

😀

Sounds about right, I get 18xx with a 4600, 2.6ghz p4b at stock speed, gb pc2700 ram, single-channel. I'd get 15xx with the newest drivers, recently switched to 43.45 and my '03 score jumped by 300 points, my '01 score by 1500. You might want to try downgrading drivers (use driver cleaner) if you're using the newer ones. They seem to slow down the 4x00 cards.

I believe 3DMark03 is a DX9 test and 3DMark01 is a DX8 test. Your Ti4200 isn't DX9 compliant, thus your low score on the 03 test.

On a related note, should everything (firewall, antivirus, etc.) all be disabled when running 3dmark to get the most accurate reading? I have an Athlon 2200+, 1024MB PC2700 and 9600Pro (474/317) and got a 3,532. I'm assuming that's decent based on my rig but when I compared it to other scores, I noticed that people with specs (including overclocking) subpar to mine were able to beat my score by upwards of 1,000 in some cases. My question is, can a hard drive cause a lower score or poor game performance? My hard drive is near capacity and I've had the same one for several years. Or is another reason the likely source of my lower benchmarks?
