It's not like India is some massive desert or area without much wood "like the midwest in America" where burning fuel becomes hard to find and needing to use poop chips is a must. Nope, they do it because they LIKE IT. They even do it here because they like it.

They can like it all they want, I still think it's gross.

So now the majority of Indians revere the rat. Besides your ass, is there any place you get your information from?

Seriously, quit while you're behind you fvcking tool.

Hello, racist.

the fast the India is a ridty country and one of the worst places in the world to live, that comment has nothing to do with race

So now we laugh when 500 people die in flooding?

Well, not much else you can do. It sucks that it happened. It sucks that people die. Life goes on. Sorry, I don't get over emotional on the death issue. Better to make a joke of it and keep on going then to dwell on it and let it eat you up inside. I've seen the later and it'snot pretty.

People die every day. 635 people dead in one day in one place in the world is a small small small percentage of the people that die every day. Grab your local paper and look through the obits. Add them up. Look at the coverage for your paper. Now use that for square milage and guesstimate an average. It will astound you how many people die every day and if they are lucky they get an obit.

I'm not getting emotional about it, but I don't think it should be a laughing matter. And no, 500 people don't die from a natural disaster every day.

In my opinion, Indians are some of the most rabid nationalists I've ever encountered. Saying 'India is dirty' isn't saying all of India is dirty or anything like that. It's not even racist. Sheesh. However, people shouldn't be cracking jokes when 500+ people die, but the original posts don't even mention it in the thread.

I already admitted I interpreted "India is dirty" the wrong way. Sorry for derailing the thread, but it pisses me off when people think 500 people dying is "normal."

So Indians are nationalists because they are mad that some are turning a rain thread into an India is dirty thread, and mocking the deaths of over 500 people?

No.

So I assume next time a hurricane hits America its ok for Indians to laugh and poke fun at the damage and death?

I saw the show on the discovery channel too, numbnuts. Nowhere in there did they say the majority of Indian temples have rats in them. And I'm Indian and my wife has been to that particular temple. Its not the MAJORITY of India who revers the rat and eats with them in the temple, its ONE VILLAGE in the state of Rajasthan. The vast majority of Indians would be grossed out by it.

And seriously do some research before you come to a biased conclusion. There isn't any timber to spare in India. Those people build their houses out of concrete masonry due to such small amounts of available timber. And you really think its possible to start/maintain a fire on nothing but grass? Have you ever gone camping? Grass burns away in seconds.

Isn't there a thread from the moderators about name calling? Hrmm... "numbnuts" yep that seems like name calling to me.

Oh, I didn't say every temple has rats in them. I said that discovery said the majority of the population of india revers the rat because it's a part of the religion. They weren't talking about one town or temple. They even showed OTHER towns with public squares where people go to feed rats. So, while I haven't been there, I'm just going by what discovery said and I even said that earlier.

And while we are talking about burning sh~t. It's not the only thing that burns. Also, you CAN EAT FOOD RAW. I do. Beef, seafood, vegetables, and other things. Uncooked food isn't inherently bad for you except in certain situations. Now, unclean AND uncooked food is bad. People cook food originally as a way to clean it easier and completely.

bleh, this may be an off topic forum, but we've tangented way off topic from this post. Look. Someone made a joke that so much water would clean a place out. Someone got their panties in a bind over that and thought they were being racist. They weren't. I expounded upon it and also said many places in India are NASTY to live. They are, and even you keep pointing it out by saying they are too poor to even afford grass to burn. Great, thanks for proving my point that many places in India are not clean. That has nothing to do with racisim. You got mad saying they wouldn't live that way given a choice. I pointed out I know people in REAL LIFE, and can give you address to their very door here in San Antonio to see for your damn self that YES some people from India prefer to live that way. Why? I don't know and I don't care. Sure it may only be one family, but even one family proves a point in contradiction to you saying no one there ever would if given a choice.

Bleh, loosen up and don't throw a tissy every time someone mentions they dislike something about a place you do like. People have a right to their opinion whether they lik or dislike something.

I'll agree that there are a hell of a lot of rabid nationalist Indians but there are others like me who just can't stand some of the sh*t people make up about India. The perceptions that every Indian worships cows/rats/multi-armed gods/the devil, eat crazy sh*t, and bathe in filth are alarmingly prevalent. It seems to be the most commonly mischaracterized and wrongly stereotyped nationality in the world, which explains why so many react so strongly to stuff like this.

I have never met an Indian in America that burns sh!t in a grill and I have never met an educated middle class or wealthy Indian in India who does that.

Face it, you are taking one individual and attributing it to everyone.

No, some Indians are rabid nationalists because they're blinded by patriotism.

If you actually read my post, then you wouldn't have posed your little question.

I agree - that stuff is annoying. However, saying 'India is dirty' is not racist or anything like that at all.

I've never even heard of an Indian in the US burning feces in a grill.

But I've heard of people (not necessarily Indian) that like to rub feces onto their hands.

It's a generalization that doesn't apply to 100% of Indians. Indians as a whole are, IMO, one of the most nationalistic people out there. That doesn't mean all or even most are rabid nationalists.

Oh good gawd people. Those people are mocking or laughing at the dead people directly. They aren't saying, oh look, Mr and Mrs Punj died...hahah! That's just retarded and if someone had done it in this thread I'd be riding your bandwagon on outrage against such comments.

Okay, maybe "rever" was to strong a word for how a large amount of people around India think of rats. They don't all get down on their knees and bow and scrape when they see them. However, many people from India don't go out of their way to eradicate rats where ever possible either. That was another piece done on discovery where they were following local tribe of idians who were "Rat Hunters" and were trying to kill rats and change the views of the India populace. Many people in India follow the same religion. That religion talks about rats in a good fashion. As such, many people in India have no problems with rats. Sure some go to the extreme, like those in the rat temple, while others just tolerate them like many people in america tolerate stray cats and dogs.

I think it's disgusting. My opinion. If you don't like it then you can take a long walk off a short pier.

Indians are a nationalistic lot as a whole. But coming from the perspective of being an American-born and raised person of Indian descent, so are Americans. I've never seen an Indian with "Proud to be an Indian" bumper stickers, who fly Indian flags outside there house and on their car antenna, or who call their country "God's country". Now I'm not saying any of these things are bad, but if you want to talk about a rabidly nationalistic country, I think Americans are even higher on the list.

I said it got off tangent because one person made the comment about lots of water cleaning things out. I was making fun of the fact that places in India have people living with rats and cooking with dung. That all that water might clean it out.

Then people got in a tissy over a little comment and threw a hissy fit. Geee  I also think people in Oklahoma that have a Cow Chip tossing competition every year are gross too. Then again, they aren't eating it, just tossing it around. I also think the tribes in the Africa that build homes from the stuff are gross too. I have a right to be grossed out if I want to.
