Update: My 360 has finally died. I did the whole online support thing. Just a few new questions.

1. How long is this going to take? I've been reading that turn around times are a lot shorter now.
2. Will I be getting the new Falcon 360s?

My 360 just died. I have to call Xbox support today. Just a couple questions before I call.

1. How long does it take?
2. Am I going to get a new 360 or a refurb?
3. What do they use to ship? DHL? Fedex? USPS?
4. Why ME?????

1) depends on the volume... could be between 2 weeks and 2 months.
2) most likely a refurb
3) UPS for me.
4) Don't cry, it happens to everyone... sometimes multiple times.

Try submitting your Xbox via the Xbox Support Page. It is easier than calling the support number. That is, if they support your state. For some reason, they don't have Georgia on there so I wasn't able to use it.

Mine finally was received for repair, over 1 month after I requested a box. Took 2 weeks for them to ship my box. UPS lost my package when I shipped it back to Microsoft. They found it 1 week later.

I'm thinking 2008 before I see my 360 again, if ever.

It has been 9 days since MS received my 2nd 360. I shipped it out 5 days (over a weekend) prior to that. It was almost a week before that that I called in my repair.

I'm glad I 'bought' two 360s.

I got my two back within 2 weeks. Original xbox lasted one year. The replacement lasted 3 weeks. My third has been going strong for about 6 months now.

WTF...it randomly comes on now.
When I called Xbox Support, they had me run through the unplug it and turn it on then turn it off wait 10 seconds and then turn it back on. And both times it was RROD. But then, they couldn't process my service because something about their servers or something. So then they tell me to call back in 24 hours, so just for the hell of it I turn it on, and it turns on. WOW

Did you send it in working, or did the towel trick not buy you much time?

question: will MS fix the RROD if I have already opened my 360 and did the XClamp fix. Reason I ask, after 6 months of perfect operation, I got the RROD again. Did the towel trick and it came back on, but not sure how long before it goes out permanently.

Doubtful at best. Once you crack your case open, you void your warranty and MS won't touch it. Changing out the parts inside makes it only worse I think.

Probably about the best you could hope for it to convince them that you were getting the RROD before they extended the warranty to three years and you did the X-clamp fix because you didn't know you were going to get any relief.

yes they will fix it.

i know 4 people who have sent back 360's that had been opened and they all received new/refurbs back no problem.

Don't mean to be off topic here but how are people getting RROD multiple times? I mean, didn't they correct the problem?

Heh. My wife just told me that my 360 arrived. Can't wait to go home and see what version it is and how it compares to the other one that was manufactured 12/05.

Very interesting. The 360 I got back was manufactured on 9/24/2007 which means it is brand-spanking new. However, it is just a regular Premium....no HDMI and no new heatsink when I peered in through the bottom. So, I guess they are still producing older versions?

really damn. I was hoping that since my 2nd is dead they'd send out a new one with HDMI.

then I won't have to buy one newer one.

well I have my fingers crossed. cmon 65nm or HDMI or BOTH. :D
