MS just announced like a month or so ago that they were making a profit on each console sold now, earlier than expected. That was part of the reason people were expecting a price drop or a upgraded 360.

It's at a great mass market price point ($130) and has a ton of games that can be had cheap.

Sales numbers are meaningless (to determine popularity) until all consoles have the supply to meet the demand.

yes, but they've lost 4B$ so far (there was a really long segment on VG consoles on discovery or cnn or something, can't remember... but to be fair, that was the money lost on the original xbox) 🙂 Not to say they couldn't... that's pocket change to gates for getting into the living room if IPTV and tv/movie downloads pay off.

360 - rarely seen on shelves until March of '06.
Wii - Never seen on shelves since launch.
PS3 - Frequently have been seen on shelves in the last few weeks.

hmmm... I sold my PS2 for $50 with 2 memory card. I didn't realize the PS2 was so popular, still...

I think comparing the launches would be more accurate since the Wii and PS3 are still in short supply.
Wii -1.1 million
PS3 - ~700,000
360 - ~600,000.
I don't think the 360 will have much gas after the Halo 3 release and the other 2 consoles become readily available.
comparing launch numbers is worthless, since they all sold out completely and experienced shortages on launch.

I'd like to see Nintendo jump back on top. I thought the GC was a flop because of it's design and timing.

The upside of this is that more people buying PS2s are likely to buy PS3 later on. The downside is that this clearly shows that the $500 and $600 entry points for the PS3 are absolutely killing PS3 sales as people would rather buy a last-gen machine cheap.

there's nothing remarkable about it outselling the Wii and PS3, which in the case of the Wii could have sold 3-5 times more if that number was available.

So you think it's more accurate to compare a console without any shortages with 2 consoles with shortages? How about you just admit the Wii sales are much more impressive than, 360 outsells Wii and PS3 in December.
