360 Mini Rant - Gamer Tags

Saga

Banned
I'm sure quite a few will get a kick out of this, as I run around the forums saying how great having 3 360's + Hulu + PlayOn is, and I constantly make sure to mention how my PS3 has been sitting powered off collecting dust since the day it was purchased. This is your time to point and laugh.

/rant on

There is one thing about the 360 that absolutely infuriates me to no end. I play the majority of my games on the Elite attached to the LCD TV in the computer room. This is the second time now that I have began a game that did NOT tell me that my game would not be saved if I was not logged into my gamer tag, and I didn't realize this until 1-3 hours into the game when I exasperated my efforts trying to figure out how to save and actually had to fucking google it because I couldn't figure it out. The first time, I believe it was Tales of Vesperia. No huge loss there, the intro is pretty fun and easy to repeat - but this time, I was three fucking hours into the Naruto game, having gotten Chakra concentration level 2 and double jump and spent two fucking hours running around the leaf village collecting coins from hard to reach places in the maze of a city.

WHY THE FUCK do I have to log into a gamer tag before starting these games to save them? Why the living shit does it not automatically prompt me to do this rather than starting the game from the power on button? Christ, iI've wasted an accumulative 8 hours of my fucking life to games that magically required I log on to my gamer tag before I start the game to fucking save.

How does shit like this pass the QA process? Who was sitting around saying, "Hey dude lets force these guys to log into their gamer tag BEFORE starting the game EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME THEY START THE CONSOLE. COOL IDEA MAN, give that guy a raise". If logging in is a requirement to do ANYTHING, I better be fucking prompted to do it before the game even spews me it's distributor adds.

Shit. What happens if I'm not networked? What if I took this game into the living room with no internet connection on the arcade? Because I didn't log into xBox live, would I not be able to save?

Fucking retarded.

Stick a fork in it. This thread is done.

Queasy

The save is linked to your tag. There are reasons behind this.

I'm also pretty sure you are given the option to sign in with your tag and save without losing anything - that is, if you aren't signed in already.

You don't need to be connected to the internet to sign in with your tag.

You can log on any time, dunno if in those game it'll let you save if you log on midway through. It's how the console works, saves are attached to a GT, if you didn't know that it's your own fault.

Neither of those games allowed me to login midway through. Once I actually realized I needed to, I tried. =/

You can log in at any time, you don't do it through the game, you use the Xbox guide button. Now, whether the game will allow you to save after doing that is up to the game.

First, as the other have pointed out, you should be able to simply hit the guide button and log in. Second, you can enable auto-login to avoid this issue completely. Third, if you don't like the game disc being run automatically when you power on the 360 there's an an option to disable that too.

i've never had this issue because i have the auto-logon enabled and have since i had my 360.

like others have said, even if you have no network connection, your profile will be logged in on your 360.

i think it makes complete sense that you have to be logged into a profile for it to save files. what if you have 2-3 accounts on your 360, how would it know which profile to save it to if you aren't logged in?

this "rant" is just 110% user error.

QFT. Login automatically. Though I would like to see an option to set the XBox Live login to 'Appear Offline' if you want to sign in to Live but don't want to show up on friends lists.

And it should be PEBCAC (Console and Couch... Or maybe GAC, Gamepad and Couch...)

I've owned a 360 since launch and wasn't even aware there was an auto-login. Where be said option?

If you weren't already known to be such a douchebag, I might take this critically. Be constructive or go fuck yourself, asshole.

go into the profile and should be one of the last options "Enable Auto-Login"

I just looked. Once logged in, the only real option areas are "Edit Profile" and "Manage Account". They have privacy settings, such as allowing nobody to see I'm online, but I don't see any option for auto-login. Are these screens only visible before logging in?

I wonder if there is a vBulletin plugin that allows members to vote on ban hammer victims...

Hopefully you find out after you OD on sleeping pills.

Wrong. All of those threads are circa 2005-2006, before the new dashboard. Those instructions no longer work, and I cannot find any up to date instructions on the xbox live website.

Edit: Actually, searching for "Auto Login" on the xbox website brings back ZERO results, as seen here:

Wow why is everyone being so harsh?

Anyway, you need to hit the "xbox button" on your controller and activate auto-login through that menu system. I forget the specifics, but there's some option for your profile listing, and then account settings, and auto-login is there.

I found it difficult to find as well.

No shit, heaven forbid you'd find help on a forum without the masses looking down on you from their ego pedestal, huh?

No matter how easy everyone claims this is to find, I've just spent the last 20 minutes searching through all the panel settings/options and I still cannot locate any auto login function. Nor can I find any (accurate) description online for the new dashboard.

Funny how everyone is a know it all, even when they're all wrong.

Aha. Thanks Ducci. Finally found it, once you hit the xbox button you have to zoom all the way to the far right screen under "settings", and then select the TOP option labeled "Profile", auto login is listed there. Thanks for the tip!
