30% of MS code in 2002 was written by Russian-americans?

Does/has anyone worked at Microsoft or some other tech companies tell me if there's any truth to that? Apparently, a lot of highly educated software engineers migrated in 90's to US.

All I see is Russians/ukrainians being portrayed as cold-blooded criminal scum (for males) and sex workers (for females), and I really don't think that actually applies to russian-americans. What do you think?

Americans have fallen behind in math and science. It's no surprise that Indians and other foreign skilled workers are powering Silicon Valley and our tech companies.

If this is a troll or parody thread, it's a bad one.

If not, they're regular people, but from a country which put more emphasis on math and science than we do. They can pronounce some words in really funny ways, too.

How old are you, seriously? Cold blooded criminal scum?

Do you know how many non-Caucasian Americans work in software companies? I work in a large software company and half the people here are Indian. Doesn't bother me one bit.

The chairman of the unions represented at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Viktor Kalinushkin, told a news conference in Moscow that most of them were finding well-paid jobs in the United States, Europe and Japan.

He said Russian-speaking programmers in the USA were responsible for developing 30% of Microsoft products.

dude's just pissed he's stuck over there

I said "being portrayed as". Obviously I do not think that, but look at the movies, video games, tv shows and without fail the same stereotype remains. Although I have to applaud Dexter for giving the current Russian villian some depth, the main villain is still Yet Another Russian Maffia Boss and the russian girl is a strip dancer . Similar things found in Person of Interest, 24. I'm a huge tv-show fan, I would know those things.

why are we talking about stereotypes in entertainment like they have much bearing on reality?

When I worked at Pratt and Whitney I couldn't believe the amount of Russians they had in the military department.

Nothing wrong with nationality (they do have some brilliant/very smart people), but I would think with the cold war and all that would be a major security issue.

Nope, quite the opposite.

I work down the street from Oracle's headquarters and sometimes have lunch there. I'd say 90% of the people are either Chinese or Indian.

My town has a pretty large russian immigrant population. Most of them are alright people. The old ones have interesting stories if you get them drunk, but... well, the stereotypes are true. Do NOT match these dudes shot for shot.

A little cynical as a group, but I can respect that.

This explains Vista.
They certainly didn't do Windows 7's Search tool though.
I think they took a bunch of Windows XP CDs, tossed them into a blender, sent the blender's contents on a scenic tour through Hell, formed the tortured and demon-infested remains into the casings for flash memory chips, and then used the evil spontaneously-generated code within as the new Search tool.

A lot of the guys at my work are Russian or former soviet block Americans. I gotta say in my career people from those areas cared far more about their work than the Indians and Chinese who generally seem like they just get into the field because its the thing to do to be successful and get to America.

That's racist!

Blacks are underrepresented in MS code. Whoops that's racist.

On a more serious note racist is so misused to the point we are desensitized til the point the real racist stuff gets ignored we can blame the idiots who cried wolf too much.
