Good deal. Designer tastes great (for a protein shake), optimum second, and lastly isopure...out of the three that I've tasted...

Just because we're geeks doesn't mean we can't pull some iron. Speaking of which, anyone know of some good lifting forums. The Garage Gym has merged with cyberpump and requires a fee. I might do it. It's probably worth $10, but if there are other places comparable out there, I would like to know about it.

Hardgainer Round Table is pretty good. Strictly run (even moreso than here :) ) but great mature lifting discussions from a very "back to basics" viewpoint.

Thanks. I use to go there every now and then , but the old format was horrible. It was a message board with a directory tree format, but it looks much better now.

Actually, because of school and work I haven't really worked out for about 6 months. But I'm getting back on my routine which is 2 days of heavy lifting a week. And yes, I can drink a gallon of milk and maybe a half dozen eggs in one sitting, although these days I tend to stretch that gallon out over the day with dried milk. My basic diet consist of milk, eggs, oatmeal, bananas, red meat, chicken and tuna, breads and what not. Of course, I eat the occasional junk food, but this is just what I'm used to.

What I don't understand is people that go on the Atkins diet and drop carb intake down to about 20 grams a day for 2 weeks.:Q It's called ketosis and if you're not careful, it could be quite bad for your health. I plan to shed some weight and cut my carbs, but that is way too drastic and I can't believe it's becoming a mainstream diet.

i used Prolab's 5lb whey protein and it tastes good>very good but
the caveat is it is the HARDEST to stir/dissolve of all the protein powders that
i have ever come across. I have counted like 150-200(revolutions) fast stirs with my spoon in
order to get it to 'almost' dissolve...then ur left with many tiny clumps which i just
gulp down and swallow :) They have a very good formula though...just read the label.

i just got in on the 2x Designerwhey 5lbs...tastes good and relatively easy to dissolve.
also got 2x Nlarge2...

By the way, i'm assuming ur trying to gain and build muscle...not trying to lose weight.
If ur 300lb and trying to lose fat ala weightwatchers this is not for u ;)

1 gr per pound of bodyweight for maintnance, higher for bulking. For those who use whey and milk, concider some liver protection, excessive protein consumption can be quite hard for your liver(do bloodwork, check for elevated liver values, iron, billirubin, etc...)
Oh, and about pencilnecks, it was a joke, guys:)

This is a really good place to read and get a lot of Info:

www.elitefitness.com

Yes, going into Ketosis will help you get into a BF of less than 8% and help you get rid of the unwanted fat. How bad is it to your body if you follow the CKD and do the carb up on the 7th day you should be fine. However it will take more than just 2 weeks, usually you do a cycle of 2-3 months since it takes around 2 weeks to really get into ketosis. If you think that the CKD diet is too much then check the above place where thay have a diet that you do for one moth and in the example they used a 200 pound guy would lose 15.8 pounds of fat in one month without counting the water or muscle that the person is going to lose too. Anyways, going back to the topic I use the optimum Whey, the Chocolate flavor and it tastes pretty good, However the price for the EAS is a lot better and suposedly higher quality of Protein than the Optimum. I got into the 3 EAS 5 Pounds Chocolate one for 63 :)

Hi I'm new here. I have been reading here for the past month but have finally decided to join.

Anyway, I have used a bunch of different whey proteins in the past:
Prolab (tasted and dissolved well)
HDT (the large 5 + 1 seems to work well but doesn't dissolve very easily).
SportPharma(seemed ok, but I prefer the previous two over this one)

I want to try this Optimum Nutrition protein b/c it looks like it is low in fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. Now to my question, what is the difference between:

1. http://www.musclesurf.com/100wheyprot2.html

and 2. http://musclesurf.com/10natwheypro.html ??

The SECOND one seems to have less of the bad stuff (fat, cholesterol) and is cheaper, what's up with that?. I could get one of those 5 pounders and the shaker for under $31 shipped. TIA

p.s. I hope I figured out that link thing correctly.

Hey, guys! While we're talking about protein, I'm trying to avoid all the sugar (carbohydrate) content, and just get to the protein. Some people say that whey is best, others say that a mix of whey, egg, and soy is more balanced. Any input on the nutrition aspects?

I'm trying to eat a lot of good salads with greens, various types of fresh vegetables, and home-made vinaigrette from flax oil, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, a little sea salt, and Mrs. Dash. Then I'm eating some eggs, some wild (not farm) salmon, and avoiding all the sugar and high-glycemic foods (carbs). I'm trying to feed the body what it needs, not all the junk.

read up on the goods. go talk to a health tech if you dont know what your doing...excessive intake of protein can damage your liver if you dont "flush" your system...also this crap about one brand of protein is better? wtf are you talking about protein is protein. also a 5lb tub usually goes for 25-30 depending on what kinds you get. so that is an average deal...dont remember if there was free shipping but think if there is thats 10lbs + packing..so your looking at maybe another 10-15$ worth it IMO not

also for the guy that gets the clumps if you use a blender it?ll take care of them...use milk if you can (sometimes too thick) what i usually do is use 1% milk and like a strawberry daiquiri mix and make a strawberry shake or mix it up with a banana or just use your imagination. ice cream has too much sugar most of the time so just calculate the goods you eat more you have to work more to burn it

BigJimbo, I guess you and I are on different channels. Protein is not all the same. Each animal or vegetable source of protein digests differently. For me, that's the area I'm researching, finding out which mix of aminos is exactly what the body more easily digests. And the mix of substrates, chelating substances, vitamins and herbal ingredients can make a world of difference - to me, that is. You may be getting just what you want, by just buying at the best price. That's cool. I won't try to speak for you getting what you want, but what I'm looking for is clearly different. Anyone got any input on my earlier question? Say, "Hey, Anami!" in your reply. Thanks!

Well, it is, isn't it? Have you ever had a bitter home-grown carrot? Wrong mix of soil, man. So, if you apply that to protein, is it all the same to you if I serve you chicken, king salmon, salamander, or prime rib protein? Tastes diff, don't it? It's in the details. I think so. Maybe we can agree that, of the twelve-odd amino acids present in "protein", that the mix makes a difference. I like to find what the best stuff is, then find out where to get it at the best price. I found out that most people hate champagne because all they'd ever had was cheap Cook's at the cheapo wedding. If I gave them a chilled glass of $100 Dom Perignon, they'd damn well better agree that not all "champagne is champagne".

Yes, there is a difference on the quality and quantity of the Whey. Most people agress that the Optimum Whey soy is good enough but there are better ones. However you have to take into account the price. Optimum Whey is made out of Concentrate while others are made from Whey Isolate (which I have red nobody does because the Stuff tastes so bad nobody would take it, so they add more stuff to it make it digestable or at least not to taste that bad). There are differences on the Whey Protein as there is on the Juices. There is a difference on an Orange Juice made from Concentrate, from one made from real Oranges but it is going to be more expensive. There are several brands that are pretty good in selling high quality Whey but it costs like $65 for 6 pounds. EAS is supposed to be a little better than Optimum. Also, the Optimum has more fat thatn the EAS. Inregard to proteins I take a Shake with one Scoop of Whey protein and One Scoop of Soy Protein (tastes kind of bad by itself, plus with the Whey I make sure I am getting enough protein on my shakes plus is really inexpensive). Here is a small extract about the Diferences on the quality of Whey:

What is Whey Protein? Whey protein can be found in a variety of different protein shake blends. However, some proteins concentrate on 100% of ion exchange whey protein isolate. Whey protein concentrate provides shorter and longer chains of amino acids. Whey protein is ideal for lactose intolerance and anyone sensitive to milk products. Designer Whey and Isopure are two whey proteins examples. Extreme Pure Protein by Worldwide Sports Nutrition is also a whey protein drink that is also low carbohydrate and known throughout bodybuilding as being a whey protein zero carbohydrate drink. Whey Glutamine peptide blend containing a full spectrum whey peptide protein is found in new Designer Whey Protein by Next Nutrition. Whey protein shakes and whey protein drinks despite being a better protein source than egg white protein or soy protein is intended to be used as a food supplement, and is an excellent way of supplementing fat burning and protein requirements throughout the day.

Whey proteins shakes are available in a variety of flavors such as vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. Whey protein drinks are also available in several flavors such as fruit punch, orange cream and grape. Bodybuilders and athletes find whey proteins are more compatible for their digestive systems as whey protein is lactose free, as well as being lower in calories, sugar and having low carbohydrates.

Whey protein can be found in a variety of other protein shake and protein drink blends. For instance, whey protein is also included in Pure Gro's blend of 5 different proteins including egg protein, milk protein, soy protein and calcium caseinate protein. You can also use whey protein in many of your favorite cooking and baking dishes to ensure that your body is getting sufficient daily intake.

I am going to add Calsium Caseinate Protein.

Whey Protein The ULTIMATE GUIDE!

by Mr. X @ DietDicussion Board @ EliteFitness.com

check it out guys for those of you REALLY wants to know about WHEY.

I persoanlly love the EAS Whey. However I believe I am on my way to try the Optimum Nutrition Whey.

I checked out that Pro-Rated Whey Protein by Protein USA LLC and it looks unprofessional. Contact and Review links have NOTHING in it. The site just looks cheap. I would NOT buy stuff from them. When it comes to supplements, majority of them are not FDA approved anyway, so it is better and recommended to go w/ the more popular brand.....EAS....Optimum Nutrition....MetriX....they are good chices.

and last but not least...EliteFitness ROKS.
