i've made it through life so far without ever needing there help with exception of asking for directions but they were not any more helpful than a civilian. As far as I can remember I can say that I've only had negative interactions with them and I cannot really see ever needing a highway cop. I have AAA and they can do whatever it is I'd need a highway cop to do. The more I think about it the more it seems that I'd only ever have a need for police if it was a detective and I needed an investigation into a family related matter. So other than that I'll stick to my statement and say fvck the police.

Nope, just someone who believes that cops are no different than the rest of society - in every job, there are some employees who are jerks no matter what, and there are others who honestly believe in doing their job right.

That, and I work at the U of M Dept. of Public Safety. :)

Well I hope you NEVER get into a situation where you need one. I know that I haven't really ever needed one except when my car was being broken into. Just happened that a cop drove by and busted the thugs as they broke into my car.

Go on thinking that you will never need them. One night when some robber is in your house robbing you, don't start praying for the police to show up. You already said you don't need em.

BTW, they have a sh*tty job. They do the job most people would never want to. They do deserve respect. Yeah there are bad apples in the bunch but for the most part all the cops I have had experiences with have been very nice and friendly. Even when they gave me a ticket.

actually most police I've met are cocky asshats that parade around in there cool crown victoria thinkin they are hot sh!t and should pullover and harass anyone they like. They are typically the kid no one liked in school and they are typically not very smart so they love to abuse there power and harass people to make up for being harassed when they were younger. I grew up in a virtually crimeless town(population: aprox 25,000) in suburban neighborhood and we had more cops than was ever necessary. They were bored so they would come up with reasons to pull you over or harass you. That is BS and should not be taken lightly. If a cop is bored he isnt needed so then cut the staff and save the tax payers some money.

perhaps I am living in the wrong area then cuz the cops around here are d!cks. Even if you are the victim they get serious attitudes with you.

I also grew up in a well-off suburban neighborhood in a city that many consider 'overrun' with cops.

I've never been pulled over, and I've been driving for THREE YEARS. I have many friends who have gotten tickets, and they were ALL for valid reasons (speeding, disregard red, disregard stop sign, etc.).

Methinks you're bitter b/c you get pulled over for doing something stupid like not using a turn signal.

It's the law to use a turn signal. If you use one, a cop won't pull you over for it.

Besides, what do you expect from cops? Cops drive around doing nothing becuase we haven't invented anything like Minority Report's precrime yet.

If there was a precrime division that could arrest people BEFORE they commit crimes, then cops wouldn't be needed. But, while the police strive to be an ACTIVE deterrent to crime, the fact is that they are often PASSIVE measures due to difficulty in response time, staffing, beats and the actions of criminals.

Driving While Black?

After the third time asking I would have started fvcking with them. Told him that they would not fit in your trunk with all the cocaine and dead people you have in there. The gloves are so that I didn't leave any fingerprints at the crime scene. The hat was so that your mom's neighbors would not recognize me after I left her house from a massive boinkfest.

Ahhh...here we go again.

First off, sounds like a bad situation. Possible that you matched the description of a crime that occurred recently or that they were briefed on regarding a kidnapping or other serious criminal matter. The methods they used to approach your vehicle sound eerily reminiscent of how they'd do it under a felony stop situation. Several things I see wrong here though. First off, they probably should have let you know, once they eliminated you from suspicion, why they pulled you over and questioned you in the manner they did. It would have helped them by putting an extra pair of eyes on the road for the suspect they *might* have been looking for. Sounds like the officer that spoke to you needs some Verbal Judo training or some public relations re-training or something. It sounds like they were either on edge about the stop or just a$$holes. My professional advice to you is to complain if you felt that the situation warrants it, which from your description, it sounds like you did. However, even when I get pulled over, I still get a little nervous and get a little adrenaline going and I've been doing the job for quite a while now, so it's possible that everything you're posting here was in essence, amplified from what really happened.

I have no problem with getting pulled over if I am breaking the law. I do have a problem with getting stopped while walking with a black friend and I do have a problem with cops feeling they can interrogate me b4 they arrest me.

the order goes

arrest me

then interoggate me

You don't have to answer their questions. It's called Miranda vs. Arizona. Stop acting like cops are your worst enemies. They're doing their jobs, and you obviously aren't doing yours as an American citizen (i.e. knowing your rights when being interrogated).

That may be , so far. Here's hoping life doesn't take any unexpected turns on you.
In my life, the cops were responsible for investigating and arresting the assholes who invaded my Grandfather's house, beat and robbed him, which led to his heart attack and death. That makes it murder.
The main a$$hole has died in prison (AIDS), and the other's are still in jail. 2 women and 2 men, well, 1 now.
The youngest was just 18 at the time (1993).
Cops aren't always the oppressors.
BTW,
Thanks to the Anderson, S.C. Police Force and S.L.E.D. Forensics lab.

Sad story....it's too bad that most cops are morons. Think about it....if you had half a brain, would you want to be a cop? I think not. These guys do have hard jobs. Unfortunately, they are for the most part, idiots.

I think he got a little bit charged up by getting pulled over, especially with 3 cops in tow and things were simply "amplified" by his adrenaline and nervousness. Somehow I don't think it's as bad as he makes it sound. I have seen several times where there has been a complaint lodged against an officer and it's been video taped on the Eye Witness system and when reviewed, there has been nothing questionable at all regarding the situation. One time, it was even showed to the complaintant(sp?) and he recanted his anger and appologized.

I had a cop tailgate me before...

Basically, he caught me on radar (or so he said at the time but I never asked for proof) and then pursued me without his lights or anything on. When he caught up to me, he proceeded to tailgate me and see what I did. Naturally, since he had those retarded lights that are uber bright, I sped up to get some room between our cars. When I sped up, he flipped on his lights and I pulled over. (It was dark so I didn't know it was a cop car until he flipped on his lights). After pulling me over, he waited forever to come up to my car, I was starting to think he had forgotten about me or something. So then when he gets there, he starts questioning why I sped up. I just told him that I felt uncomfortable with someone tailgating me, so I sped up. He then told me never to do that again because it isn't a valid reason and then ticketed me. Shrug, I didn't have any problem with the ticket, I just felt that was a very shady way of giving me one. I mean, I thought cops were supposed to use lights/siren when in pursuit and not tailgate the person once they caught up.

I was also of the understanding that cops flicker their lights to tell you to get out of the way. Not when they want to pull you over. When they want to pull you over, they put the lights on consistently.

Sometimes police have some weird methods of getting their job done, but, like someone else said, they are just humans and arn't perfect.

Woah woah, wait a second. I am planning on a career in law enforcement when I graduate from college, and it's my dream to spend part of that career as a police officer.

I have more than enough brain power to do the job; I know that. However, even as a student employee at UMDPS, I love getting to help people and serve the community. I think being a cop is MUCH more fulfilling than a job as, say, a computer programmer where I would just sit in the office all day. Think about it: are you really making that much of a difference in your community as a programmer, IT professional, or manager? Not really. I can't think of a better way to enjoy my job than to serve and protect my friends and neighbors.

typically not very smart? maybe in your neck of the woods but in my town you have to have a BS before you can apply for a cop job. Its so competive around here for cop jobs there is a waiting list and many of the applicants have Masters. I would say that in my town the cops are probably smarter than you.

"plee"ing the fifth is the act of not stating any information which might incriminate you, and is most often used by witnesses in a court of law. It has ZERO relevance on the road when you're pulled over for a traffic offense.

Ylen13's comment is one of the most idiotic I've read in awhile.

I do know my rights which is why any encounters I have had with police usually involve me saying arrest me or let me go. And the cops knowing they have no purpose harassing me..... let me go.
