Is there anywhere we can see a demo of the Cobalt Raq administrator app? I'd like to see how it compares to the Plesk software before setting up an account. Thanks.

Nevermind, I shouldn't be so damn impatient. Anyways, after looking at both I kind of like Plesk's admin software better. What do you guys think?

Plesk allows you to do more. But for many people that's just a hindrance since all they really want is to setup a couple email accounts and upload some html and images and leave it at that. One thing about the Cobalt panel, it's not hard to learn, there isn't much TO learn. But for most folks it's all they really need/want anyway.

But to support resellers I have to get away from RaQ even though I personally love them from a web hosts POV since they are so easy to use.

Hopefully by Monday I'll have the Plesk server ready to rock.

3-95 is great! I moved my site over there a few weeks ago. Last week Kyle over at HardOCP posted something about one of my guides on his front page. I started getting literally hundreds to thousands of hits an hour. This kept up for 2 or 3 days. The 3-95 server never missed a beat. AFAIK everyone that requested the page was served.

<< I just put a site their. But I am having a problem publishing with frontpage, is any one else using frontpage to publish? anyone interested... the site is www.thedealman.com >>

Your index.htm and your images directory were marked as being owned by "thedealman" and Frontpage hates that, it will only do things to files marked as owned by "nobody".

If you use Frontpage (in unix I hear windows servers don't have this problem, oddly enough) you have to be sure not to use FTP or anything else (like the web based filemanager) to modify files, else Frontpage starts complaining. Try it now and see if the publishing works better.

Hmm wonder if my $8.99 a month internet access special is a Hot Deal? :D

Hey Gary, you mentioned that you might install Tomcat (or some other Servlet/JSP server) on your "next" server -- a non-RaQ. So, it looks like you got a new one up. Are you considering some Servlet/JSP support on this one?

Either way I'll be signing up soon.

Gonna be trying to do that tonight and/or tomorrow actually.

Probably will be bringing server 5 online next week unless sales slow down.

I really dont get how they make money on this.....

you rent a Raq or a even better 1GHZ duron for $99/month with 300GB/month bandwidth.....
then you sell 100 hosting accounts for $20 a year and earn

$107($99 plus tax) x 12 =1284 spent
$20x 100 domains at 3GB/mo=$2000 gained
$2000-$1284=$716 annual profit for a pain of providing tech support for 100 domains.....

ok lets get 10 Raqs and assume you find enough customers to fill all of them out....
$ 7160 annual profit for dealing with 1000 domain.....profit of $7.16 per domain....

....Too much pain for too little gain unless you get web-hosting-literate customers(which you wont for $20/year domains)....

The $19.95 a year deals are not very good for money makers. This is my last auction of them this week.

And you're right I ain't gettin rich by no stretch :) but in all honesty you get more than 100 domains per machine, easy, 95% of the customers use less than 1 gig, it's the other 5% you have to watch.

Well I just finished reading every reply to this posting and had to bump this one back up. To me customer service is the #1 priority with doing business with any company and it's clear this is Gary's main goal. I will absolutely be signing up with his site. By the way, now that the original post is over a month old, how many new clients have you received from the posting? Almost to your goal yet? Good luck with your businesses!!

Gary, how do I set it up if I want 2 domain names to go to the same ipaddress? I have the .net and .com domains of the same name. I want it so if someone goes to xyz.net they automatically goto xyz.com.

Thanks

OK, I have 6-7 customers coming up for web hosting in the next two months. Looks like I'll be contacting you soon since this forum has given you "Two Thumbs Up". :)

Gary or whoever,

Here's what I want to do:
1) Register a domain for a simple family website.
2) It must include at least 3 POP3 e-mail accounts.

I have been thinking about going with GoDaddy which would cost me $8.95/year (www domain registration) plus $14.95/year (5 POP3 e-mail accounts with 3MB limits) or StarGateInc.com for only $8.85 but only 1 e-mail account.

I don't plan on selling or transferring my domain often, if ever.

What does 3-95.com offer in terms of POP3 e-mail accounts? I don't plan on hosting any content anytime soon, maybe some simple family pictures, a few text pages and that's it. My main concern is POP3 e-mail and I don't want "hidden fees".

Has anyone heard of Everyone.net? They seem to offer 10 POP3 e-mails with 10MB each for $35/year but this doesn't include domain registration for a website.

Thanks for any info you can offer this newbie.
