Hey all, I'm trying to maintain a simple overclock until I get better cooling on my 2.8Eghz prescott cpu.

I have easily managed to get to 3.2ghz with timings of 3-4-4-8, which is on pc3200 kingston valueram @ 2.7v from 2.6v.

Also, If i keep the volts @ 2.7 I can also achieve 2.5-3-3-7 @ 3.0ghz

my question is, would I get overall better gaming performance, keeping it @ 3.2ghz w/ 3-4-4-8 timings or @ 3.0ghz with 2.5-3-3-7timings?

Surprisingly @ stock speeds of 2.8ghz I was able to tighten my ram to 2-3-3-6! great for valueram I thought, but after smoothly running aquamark 03, it locked up :(

Have you tested those speeds for stability? Also, what is the actual memory speed for each of those overclocks?

what if I was able to keep the 3ghz @ timings of 2.5-3-3-6?

yes I have tested both of those for stability, even tho i've yet to give it a 12hour torturetest run

when at 3ghz the memory is @ 215mghz
when at 3.2ghz the memory is @ 230mghz

after you check for stability run the benchmark on your game(s) of choice
which are???
post back
in general cpu speed wins unless it's real close
what is your memory speed, fsb etc
what bios
any other tweeks?

My specs are:

MSI 848P Neo-V
512mb stick of kingston pc3200 valueram rated for 3-3-3-8
2.8Eghz p4 800mghz FSB

no other tweaks as of yet

I ran, AquaMark3, 3dmark03... Seemed perfectly stable on games like CS:S, UT2003

I tried to run a divider, instead of setting the ratio to auto, i put it at 333 (5:4ratio)

after doing so I noticed the fact that the FSB didn't go below the 200 as it should have... so I went into windows like this and it showed my memory running at 333, but my fsb was still @ 200... so I increased the fsb anywyas like a dope. Got intoo windows.. then went to a black screen and i had to clear the cmos to get it too boot again

Heck no.

I would NEVER run 3-4-4, I wouldnt even run 2.5-4-4.

Aim for 2.5-3-3, especially on a P4.

Wow, i just got really really lucky. I had just won a contest today that gave me 2x 512mb stick of OCZ PC-4000 Gold VX DDR Memory

guess im up for some damn tighter timings :)

Thats some nice memory you've got there.

It should do 250 fsb 2-2-2-5 IF you can supply it 3.2-3.4V, it will do 2-2-2-5 with stock voltages anyways, just not while ocing.

ya, my mobo can do 3.2v's.

so if ireally need those tight timings at 250fsb i will buy the ddr booter

Dont think so, it's not like your doing a volt mod.

What kind of motherboard are you using?

All silly. Ram makes little difference as long as you can run dividers and you don't run PC3200 in three years. You run the dividers to OC the processor properly and thats it, read zebo's memory matrix in cpu/OC section of the forum. Please, don't waste energy on ram settings over 2.9v, it's truely retarded.

/yes, you have free fast ram and now you are future proofed but if you tell me you can tell the difference you should slap yourself for me.;)
