well, if we are comparing "equal" processors, the A64 3000+ is about the same in price as the 3.0C

true.. negligible difference though... oh well

Some people don't like going with a no name like AMD. Marketing departments are bigger than R&D in every company and sales get paid higher than engineers in every company for a reason fellas...they move the product.

AMD a no name ? And you are a lifer ? You need to learn to read. Yea, thats how AMD is starting to get big in the server market, because the companies like HP and IBM have never heard of them....

Everythings relative mark. My mom's heard of Intel, in fact both my parents own stock in it because the wanted to invest in "technology" they said and that's all they knew, 'm sure in large part to pervasive market presence Intel has, but they sure never heard of AMD. Neither has your nieghbor most likly that's all.
OK, if you go into almost any computer store and look at the descriptions, you will se a lot of Intel, but you also will see AMD. Yes I grant you Intel has much better brand regognition, but to say AMD is a noname is not even close.

What an interesting topic! AMD vs Intel! Why haven't we talked about this before?

You'd think with so many members here, and this being such a relevant topic for this forum we would have discussed it before wouldn't you? :D

I go for the best value, when I'm ready to upgrade. My previous machine was an 1.2 Ghz AMD Thunderbird (which I still have). I'm currently running on an 2.4 Ghz P4C. My next machine will be an Athlon 64.
