SOLD OUT

knowing best buy and the generally ridiculous prices for video cards there, i would assume the minute this is not sold out, it will be $500.

Yeah, I guess that I'll wait a while until the DX10 compliant GPUs get enough transistors spent on DX10 performance and not feature set and DX9 performance like the currently ones, like the X800, it had the same 110 millions of transistors spent on DX9 compliance like the Radeon 9700PRO, but the other 50 millions were spent purely on performance like more Pixel Pipelines, Vertex Shaders, longer shader instructions etc, or even like the Radeon X1900 which has the same 321 millions of transistors spent on DX9 SM3.0 compliance and efficiency like the Radeon X1800, but the additional 63 millions of transistors on the X1900 are spent on performance like larger caches and more pixel shaders.

Well mine shipped as well and this will be my 4th attempt at a video card in the last month and a half. 2 8800GTS's did not work correctly in my PC because of Nvidia driver issues, Before any expert here tries to tell me otherwise, The machine refused to shutdown with Nvidia hardware in it. Tried a second 8800GTS, Tried a brand spanking new top of the line Corsair 620PSU and last but not least a clean install of Vista. Only way the computer would shutdown was if I removed the Nvidia video driver. On to my First 2900XT which after plugging it in I get a corrupted screen at boot, Believe me I was so Happy! HA. 🙂 After pulling it in and out of the slot about 10 or 15 times it would seem to work correctly, Tried this a couple of times but didn't want to live with such nonsense when you pay this kind of money for a video card, So that hit UPS today back. And low and behold this deal from Best Buy comes into play. Placed an order for one 10 mins. before it sold out last night and it shipped today. Crossing my fingers this will be the one that stays in my machine. 😀
I love it, Just checked where it was coming from and its so close I get it tomorrow. Maybe my luck is a changing. lol

I went to my local BB today after lunch & they had (3) left after I bought mine at the $320 price. The product isn't in the store locally, they're in a CA warehouse, so I should receive it in a few days.

I'm seriously wondering if I made the right choice with this card due to its extremely high power consumption. I have an Enermax Liberty 500, so I figure it'll do the job for one card, but definitely not for 2.

I don't like the idea of having to buy a 900+W PS for 2 freakin video cards, so I don't know if I'll keep this card. I'll check out everyone else's reports once more start rolling in. From what I've read thus far though, people running CF are running into some serious power issues.

Stay tuned...

they actually had them for sale at the store just not in stock at the store?

you can buy stuff online inside from a Best Buy and have it shipped to your home ... the HD2900xt was not available in B&M BBs

OK ... HD2900xt is on the Way ... it should be delivered on this Friday from BB in Ohio to my home in Cali according to UPS tracking

i ordered MB GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P P35 775 R - Retail $179.99 as it seems to be a fully-featured OC'ing X-fire MB that will accept my PC6400 and also allow for an upgrade to QC Penyrn and Windows Vista OEM Home Premium for $111 [with the free flash 1GB USB 'booster'] ... probably here on Wednesday

all told, about a $600 upgrade and i probably only need another 2x1GB system RAM and another 20" LCD [16x10] to really complete it ... later ...

Did i miss ANYTHING?

that's over a $600 upgrade for a HD2900xt ... and it looks like i am "forced" to get Vista ... now ... i am just glad the Home Premium OEM is so cheap

. . . of course i could have spent the *same* $600 on a GTX ... for less performance

it's BB ... you never know ... keep checking their website to see if they get further deliveries from VisionTek

i also expect HD290xt to start dropping in price ... i just wanted one (as everyone knows by now) ... last month ... but wouldn't pay $400[+] for it

i am just doing my upgrading early ... i *almost* got the $295 after $30MiR GTS 640M last weekend ... i just think the HD2900xt is gonna end up kicking its butt all over the place

Yea, he had to do a manual search & found a warehouse that had them just sitting there.

do you know where the warehouse was?

you might check your tracking ... mine is coming from Ohio and is scheduled for Fri

i want to test it in my current ASrock DualVSTA's 4x PCIe slot to see how "limited" it is [if at all] for games when i compare it to my full-featured Gigabyte ... and of course, i will dual-boot on another HD to compare Win2K and Vista performance

i will change this topic's title a bit when i get the goods ... i have the weekend to get it right

Will MS Office '97 work under Vista?
... i think i better keep win2k around for awhile

apoppin, i'll let you read up in teh OS forum to form your own opinon of Vista 32 vs. 64, but i'd be recommending 64-bit Premium or Ultimate.

I can't believe you've skipped XP? 😛
(I just mean i'm amazed you never bothered getting XP).

i just went with the 32-bit Premium .. i formed my opinion months ago

intel isn't really behind 64-bit and AMD doesn't matter anymore ... so i think it will be the next MS OS that is really 64-bit

as to 'skipping' XP ... it was fully my intention to miss it ... Win2K has no disadvantages compared to XP and i got it really really cheap ...

i wonder what is the "ME" edition of Vista and when we can expect to see it

No, I don't know where the warehouse was located, but he confirmed it was in CA...I'll keep this thread going & give updates as the status changes...I'll initially be testing the card on my current XP SP2 system, but possibly testing it again with Vista after July 22nd when I do my CPU upgrade...

Agreed. If you can work around possible driver issues (depending on what you have), 64-bit is the way to go. 2GB of memory is simply not enough for Vista. It was the biggest dilemma I faced but I made my choice (64-bit) and I think it was the right decision. 4GB is really the sweet spot for this OS.

If you want to do Crossfire in a future, go to the Gigabyte board, otherwise go to ASuS.

which one?
😕

and ... *DAAMIT* ... appears that my Win2K will not support the latest Cats

XP Cats should work with Win2k with no problems, Win2k got stuck since Cat 6.2, try them, if them doesn't work just install the Driver and ATi Tray Tool, or upgrade to Vista or XP.

so ... which Vista ? ... i ASSUME i want 32-bit

Ultimate or Home Premium, both will do the same job for you, except that Ultimate Supports Ready Boost.

HELP!!!!!!

Both, OEM and Retail are identical, the only difference is that the Microsoft's Policy for OEM is that the Vista OEM is bounded to only one PC, and if that PC's motherboard dies, the copy cannot be used on another computer or motherboard, but I haven't seen people with activation issues on different PC or mobos

AND ... to complicate it further ...
Newegg 1GB USB2.0 FOR READY BOOST 1GB Model L1GB-RBST - Retail is free after MiR with Vista OEM purchase ... it is a good idea since i "only" have 2x1GB system RAM?

Don't buy that, a Flash Drive will never have higher bandwidth than standard RAM, better to buy more RAM, 2GB is enough for Vista, Vista when runs alone consumes aprox 600MB (In my setup), XP uses pretty much the same but with many programs in the background, once you install a lot of things in Vista, the memory usage increases a little, but once you run a heavy game that sucks a lot of RAM, Vista's RAM usage decrease, after all, most of it's memory is used on the SuperFetch service, also I recommend when you play games on it to select Compatability Tab and choose that option that disables Aero Glass Interface during game, that will give you a tiny boost in performance since it is not running in the background when you are playing the game.

finally ... do you know anything about this and if i am eligible for it:
http://www.localpcbuilder.com/eligible/

Is hard to find that kind of information when you buy it on the web since you cannot hold the box in your hand and compare the numbers with those on that web, it's just gambling, good luck!!

lots of questions ... so little time and money

Little money? lol

😕

Prozac is the best medication to beat it, or a good night sleep with your air conditioner on high (Unless you live in Canada)

Sorry I couldn't answer your questions about Vista. I've been somewhat busy the last few days--busted a/c unit, car coming off lease, etc.--but it looks like you made the right choice with Home Premium. Vista's Basic theme just isn't all that great.

32-bit is the way to go unless you actually require more than 3 GB RAM. You get better compatibility and better drivers. Some driver developers make 64-bit drivers that aren't compatible (i.e. crashes, data corruption) with the BIOS memory remapping option, which is the only way to get over the 3 GB limit. For example, the nVidia SATA driver update on Windows Update made my Vista x64 box (w/ NF4 Ultra) BSOD on every boot. When I reinstalled the OS, I noticed this driver got pulled.

I went retail (technically, academic) because of the OEM version being tied to whatever motherboard you install it on. I'm somewhat worried about this given the way you go through components. Just troubleshooting that RAM problem I had during Vista reinstallation, I reactivated ~3 times. You might want to post or search for clarification in the OS forum. This OEM/mobo thing *could* just be legalese with no real weight, or it might be a real problem--I can't remember.

You may also want to check on the OEM vs. Retail thing WRT the low cost 64-bit DVD. With my copy, only the 32-bit DVD came in the box, but I was able to order the 64-bit DVD for ~$10. Does this work with the OEM product keys? Keep in mind you will have this OS for years, right?

I gave up on 64bit when I tried XP64. Driver support isnt there and there are still software issues you run into for a minimal gain.
