The new card may, but probably won't, bring performance similar to the HD2900xt for around $249 (rumored pricepoint). Supposedly full DX10.1 and SM4.1 compliant too.
All rumor at this point.
Accuse me of hijacking the thread if you wish, but how do you like your 2900xt? I'm thinking of crossfiring two of them now that pices are easing.
For what I needed a 8800GTX was way way too much and the 8800GTS still has issues I was concerned about (texture memory leak). The Card performs perfectly fine in every game I have used. It doesn't get that hot, in fact my system didn't get any hotter after putting it in. The fan is not loud and I don't even notice it much at all. It will overclock to 810/975 with no mods to either the timings or the voltage with the stock cooler.
I only play at 1280x1024 because it's all my monitor will handle but that's plenty fine for me. I can just add some AA and it's good to go.
Crossfire I wouldn't bother personally, not when there's new cards on the horizon like the 2950Pro for instance. I'd wait and see how they pan out before doing crossfire. I upgraded because I could afford it at the time, Dell has a 10% off with paypal payment option deal, and I could use a better video card for newer games.
