This card is absolutely killer for the price, the 512-bit version is a lot better than the 256-bit one. Sadly ATI discontinued this model, so grab them while you still can. Newegg has already run out of them.

Even at $174.00, I just pulled the trigger on this so $185.94 Shipped - next best price I found on this card is HERE for $183.00 +S/H.

After starting a thread earlier this week over in Video Cards and Graphics (that grey pretty lengthy), I'm pretty much convinced that this card IS the current sweet spot for midrange gaming if your PSU is up to the task. Besides, with a simple BIOS flash, you've got yourself an XT.

Bump for a good card still at a very fair price for $174!! :thumbsup:

This card is moderately better than the 256 bit bus one for resolutions 1600x1200 or greater.

the 256 bit one is at newegg for $144.99. This one is $174. Not sure if its worth the extra $30.00 to be honest.

Edit: I just couldn't pass it up at this price. Does anyone know if the stock cooler is adequate for overclocking?

DAMN!!! Coulda got it cheaper if I'd just waited!! Tried to re-order and cancel the earlier one, but already too late for that.. Jeebus eWiz is quick on the trigger with their order processing!!

Edit:Whew... just got the order canceled by calling on the phone! Re-ordered for $169.00 shipped! Makes this one even better!! OTOH, if for some reason they can't get the order canceled in time, I guess I'll just pick up a beefier PSU and throw these bastards into CF!! :evil:

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is this a good deal when you can get a 3850 for basically the same price or even less AR in this case

Is the 3850 slower then the 2900 Pro? I thought it was just a couple FPS behind the 2900 XT. Maybe I'm off base I don't know. I know you can get a 256MB 8800GT for $200 or less now nearly everywhere, it seems like you would want to spend just a tad more and get a newer card which should be better for upcoming games. If you keep on the lookout, I've seen 256 MB 8800GT's for around $180 AR

Negative Ghost Rider - This is an underclocked XT which puts it on par w/ the 3870 after a quick XT BIOS flash or even a mild OC through Catylist (which ever you prefer).

Past that there's OC-ing and these things are known to hit north of 800Mhz all day. Throw in a 512bit memory bus for good measure (the 38XX's are only 256) and this is nothing to scoff at.

It IS one power hungry/hot blooded bitch though!

Edit: This also has the advantage of being 512MB card. Even the 3850/512MB cards are floating around the $200.00 price point so considering that this is essentially the same graphics core as the 38XX series, it's a pretty good deal Price/Performance wise.

Update:Whew!! Just got a confirmed cancel on the $174.00 order! So $169.00 it is for me!! YES!!! :thumbsup:

there was a deal on these about a week ago and I thought it was discovered that they were actually 256bit versions even though they were advertised as 512bit

power consumption was the deal killer for me, unless you plan to have it strictly for a gaming rig you'll switch off when not using it, the cost difference between this card and a 512MB 3850 or 3870 will quickly catch up via your electric bills

Mine too... :( They said eWiz listed the cards 512 bit version by mistake but in actuality they were 256's. But hey, at least they were up front about their mistake and did the right thing... I'd have been pissed if they had shipped and I'd actually gotten a 256 bit card after paying for the 512 and then having to go though the hassle of an RMA and re-shipping, waiting for my refund, etc. etc...

most of the time it is at "idle" unless you game 24-hours a day

from actually calculating the electricity usage, maybe 20 cents a day more than 3850 :p

I would say so, or at least very similar. The 2900 XT is about the same as a 3870, however the Pros in stock now are only 256-bit whereas the XT was 512-bit. However considering the 2900 Pro is $80 less than a HD3870, I'd get it in flash over the HD3870.

Edit1: Just saw you asked if it were better than a HD3850? Yes hands down better!
