This is a joke, right?

OK, it's only been twice in 18 years. Sorry for the exaggeration.

I hope you stopped for them, otherwise you are a criminal involved in two hit and run accidents.

I did stop later because I have those mirrors that fold when you hit something instead of breaking off, so I had to fold it back and readjust it. :| That probably saved them!
It's not my problem they got too close and had to deal with the consequences.

Were they in a lane of traffic? Did you pass too close? If so, it is your fault. I hope that you someday pay for those two accidents.

I can't believe you admit to two hit and run accidents so flagrantly.

I did NOT run. I was DRIVING.

If you're not trolling, you're such a tough guy. Why don't you stop so the woman could beat your ass?

I was hoping only Safeway was blinded by rage enough to believe it, yet it clamied another victim. 🙁
I'm quite the avid rider, but Safeway is making all of us look like self-righteous idiots that carry guns to be tough guys when we get yelled at.
I also ride motorcycles, and don't expect drivers to see me. I do what I can to make myself visible, but people just don't pay attention, especially to something way smaller than a car.
You have to be vigilant when you are on the road no matter what you're driving/riding. You can never rely on other drivers to know the rules, or to follow them even if they do know them. You have to keep yourself out of danger, period.
What would you do if you got mugged? Tell the guy "you're not allowed by law to shoot me"? See how that works out for you.

You are in an air conditioned vehicle, they are pedaling their ass off. If anyone has time to wait around, it is your lazy, ignorant ass.

You are the type of person that bugs the fuck out of me while I am riding. You are the reason I always carry a gun with my while riding. I have been hit on purpose before by fucking expendable humans such as yourself. The next time a driver gets out of his vehicle at a stoplight to tell me what i should be doing instead of riding my bicycle on city streets, I am going to pull out my gun and point it square at his fucking face, imagining it was you, and watch the fucker piss and shit his pants, begging me to not end his worthless existence.

FUCK.

LOL.

10/10.

To each his own. But I really do wish we could go back to the time when people were expected to express their thoughts without resorting to obscenities.

funny shit. if that happened to safeway, at least he'd stop bitchen about how, pretty much, him and his bicycle have as much right as any vehicle to be on the road.

NOT USING COMMON SENSE AND COURTESY AS HE COULD BE KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT JUST BECAUSE OF HIS BLATANT STUPID BELIEFS!

First of all, you have 274 posts, so I expect you to be mentally incapable of understanding death. Secondly, the cyclist in the video was clearly not paying attention to the vehicles on the road, and rolled directly into the lane of an oncoming car.

Nothing in that video parallels what I am advocating. If that happened to me and I survived, I would thank god my stupidity didn't kill me and would pay more attention in the future.

what the hell does my post count have to do with it? i didn't post the video, moron.
i was just stating that if you want to ride in the middle of the lane, then take your chances.

you're just asking to get hit, regardless of how you interpret the law.

Perhaps this is why ATOT is quietening, people call new members noobs and think that their post count equates to something...?

Yeah dude, you should have at least pulled over to poke their corpses with a stick.

it's not fucking: would/should/could... OF
jesus christ, just think about it for 2 seconds, people.

Why is the OP stupid? OK, so if a bike is the equivalent of a car on the road, why is it ok for someone to get upset about a car driver doing something "stupid" such as, driving 20-25 on the highway? In fact, in some areas, a driver would be ticketed for going so slow.

yo yo yo. I'm posting road rules. not highway.

I read the OP, on my out of the door (work), and read it as some redneck pissed about a bike on the road.

I'm both equally pissed and accepting of bikers on the road as I am of other drivers. b/c they are all one in the same.

On the highway.....different story.

(and I'm only returning to this thread some 6 hours later)

the main issue is demanding that a cyclist ride on the sidewalk?

this is fucking retarded. that is ILLEGAL, and should NEVER be accepted. Any cyclist that understands the law (riding on the road) should be respected.

Fuck the driver for understanding the law less than the target of his rage.

At first I wanted to tell Safeway to die in a fire, but I think I agree with him.

But mostly I think our road systems are shit.

Have you ever driven a heavy vehicle?

Heaviest I've driven is a semi truck (no trailer or anything). I admit, that's not very heavy, but I don't really know what that has to do with the post you quoted.

i was trying to say, (tho i didnt say it did i?) that heavy vehicles are a prick to stop. And you get stupid cars and bikes zippping in front of you, its very very difficult to stop suddenly. And a guy on the bike is like road kill to a truck

I find that the professional truck drivers are the best people on the road in my area (the Northwest). They look ahead, they plan ahead, they're patient and thoughtful. I don't think a pro trucker has EVER blown his/her horn at me, and I've done long rides on the highways around here since the '80s.

If there is a sidewalk, use it.

Don't be ridiculous. Dangerous for the cyclist, dangerous for others, and illegal in most of the places I'd want to go. Riding on the road in vehicular fashion is the right answer. I see we have some e-bravado and anti-bicyclist posturing here in the thread, but that attitude is very rare among the road users in my area. If you really think bicyclists belong on the sidewalk, ask my great-aunt Mildred, who was crippled for life when she stepped out of a shop and had her femur shattered by a moron riding on the sidewalk. Or just try riding down a sidewalk at 30mph+ sometime, and it'll quickly become evident why it's not a good idea.

That said, I'm not even sure why a bike would ever want to be on a real road to begin with? I mean are you really biking so far that you need to be on a major road to get there?

Yes, many cyclists do ride quite far, and using the road is necessary to get where we're going. Point in case... on Tuesday I rode about 32 miles on city streets and state highways to watch a bicycle race in Rathdrum, Idaho. Then I rode 32 miles home in the dark. Average speed, round-trip: 22mph, which is about 50% of the speed limit for that route as a whole (and that's not my fast bike, either 😉). I was out there with the dump trucks, the semis, the motorcycles and the autos, and no one had a problem sharing the road with me. Back when I was in college, I'd ride about 75 miles home for the weekend, then ride back. I commute by bicycle every day, including in the winter (LOL, try riding the sidewalk in those conditions[/i]). I bust out my car when I have an actual need for a car, such as hauling heavy or bulky stuff, but that's pretty infrequent.

As for the OP: for every time I've slowed down a big truck, I've also been slowed down by a big truck, I'm sure. Their off-the-line acceleration generally sucks. So does their cornering. But that's life, and as long as they're driven by the kind of pro truckers we have around here, I don't mind making allowances for them. At any rate, I suggest you restrain your confrontational mindset, since some bicycle commuters record their commutes with digital video cameras these days, for the purpose of nailing aggressive drivers to the wall with video footage. That's not what you want on your professional record.

You've got over 9000 post on a message board, so you're obviously the apex of intelligence, right?

You should have listened earlier when I told you to shut up, you would be much better off by now.

I'd rather ride on the sidewalk. Much safer for me. I don't know who came up with the idea of riding on the street where vehicles are much faster.

I love how over zealous bikers play chicken with cars.
How tough are you when you are turned into red jelly on the road?
What if you get clipped? Do you think the car is going to stop and say they're sorry?

Yeah, it's the law that you are allowed the same rights as cars, but it's never going to happen, and the only person at risk is the bicyclist.

When I ride on the road, I GTFOver and use the sidewalk when needed in cities.

Maybe if you got off your lazy ass and rode a bike for once, you would understand. Instead, you'd rather take a dick your ass and shout at the bicycle riders!

or shoot the whore

fucking scumbags like you

People that think that is cool should be killed

You are officially a fucking worthless human being

I've seen some rage before - but wow - just wow *shakes head sadly*

so, if we can share the lane and all that, how come bikers can run red lights and blow through stop signs? Do they get tickets too?

How does a biker prefer to get passed when there is only one lane, and the other lane is oncoming traffic? If you are going 10-15, and the speed limit is 35-40, what are we supposed to do? Slow everyone down and keep behind you? I usually just wait for an opening of oncoming traffic and juice it around them, but that seems dangerous to me.

wow...hard to believe how many assholes are here on this thread.

I bike 5 miles everyday to work and back here in London. I am glad 80% of the time, I don't have to deal with cars because I am protected by the bus lane. The buses are usually pretty slow and I pass them once then never see them again. The only thing I need to watch out for is taxi which has the right to use the bus lane.

Other drivers do treat the bikes better, there are just a lot of us on the bikes. I take over the road as necessary and the cars will slow down 90% of the time. it helps that the speed limit is very low; the car can't do more like 30mph in the whole city.

When I went to amesterdam, i totally love the city there and how effecient it is. It was literally everyone that lives in amsterdam own a bike. The city was so well developed for biking and public transportation. you will be pretty dumb to drive in there.

I wish there is a city that is little closer to London with a reasonable safety for biker in US, but there isn't. meanwhile, just have to wish for a higher and higher gas for the suckers that drive.

The Engrish is strong in this one.

Wow Safeway has proven multiple points in this thread... Mainly, 1) he is a douche 2) he is a self-righteous biker who thinks the roads were paved only for him 3) he is an irresponsible gun owner

I'm waiting for the post of
"I tried to defend myself from a roadrager. But he took my gun & beat me senseless with it! F'in Ninjas!"

lol...wow quite a thread

This is one battle I refuse to take sides in anymore after living in Chicago. Both our motorists and our cyclists violate nearly every law on the books constantly so whichever you elect to use I simply wish you the best of luck. Hell, even our pedestrians manage to make a dangerous nuisance of themselves. Consequently I will never ride a bike on these city streets because I enjoy living with the full use of my limbs.

Screw laws of what you're supposed to do. I hope a soccer mom driving a lifted F-150 reaches behind her seat to pick up a pile of shit her 3 year old just dropped on the floor and blows through a stop sign and squishes you into unrecognizable pieces. what bike laws will protect you from that?

at least if i'm in my expedition i'll probably just get seriously injured and roll over, lol.

hope you die soon, i'll keep an eye out for the news. i like that you carry a gun, try bicycling up through south dallas sometime, pull it on the nice fellows in that neighborhood and see what happens, you limp dick lovely human.

i actually like bicycling and driving, both are fun and have their places, but it's these insane nutjobs like Safeway that fuck it up for everyone.

it's simply called common sense, if you see a line of 26 cars behind you and they have no way to pass, pull over for a minute and let shit clear up. same goes for a car, if you have to impede traffic for whatever reason, pull over when it's safe and let things clear.

too bad no one has common sense anymore.
