This is a joke, right?

OK, it's only been twice in 18 years. Sorry for the exaggeration.

Although cyclists are just as entitled to the road as you are, I do agree that cycling on the road during rush hour and entrusting your safety into the hands of someone else is extremely stupid.

NOT USING COMMON SENSE AND COURTESY AS HE COULD BE KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT JUST BECAUSE OF HIS BLATANT STUPID BELIEFS!

To be fair Safeway does seem to be advocating a more sensible style of riding a bike than the guy in the video displayed.

This thread is why i fucking hate motorists.

Stupid retards think they own the road, even when you are doing your best on a bike to stay to the side, let them by, etc.

And just like the morons in this thread, they think you should be on the sidewalk, when IT'S FUCKING ILLEGAL for me to do so :|

Many of the streets where i live are too narrow for me to be riding my bike & a vehicle to pass in the same lane.

If i can't get off to a side so they can pass, i am going to ride in the middle of the lane for that stretch, so the retard drivers don't try to scrape me off onto the curb.

I gotta say, i think it needs to be made madatory that in order to get a driver's license, you need to be able to pass a bicycle driving test, so you comprehend how to drive with cyclists, & understand what it's like.

This thread is full of idiots who fully need to learn just how it works from the side of being a cyclist. :frown:

Ok, I have one question after reading this thread. How the fuck can a bicycle be a considered a road worthy vehicle when it can't follow the most basic rule of the road: the speed limit. Seriously? Speed differences between vehicles is one of the most dangerous situations on the road. So I refuse to classify a bicycle as road worthy. It may be sharing the side of the road, but it certainly can't handle a lane.

It's in the law book. Just like a moped with a maximum speed of 30 mph is allowed on the interstate highway system, with a speed limit of 60 mph.

And to be fair, I usually pull 20 to 25 mph on surface streets, which is pretty close to the 30 or 35 limit. And need I remind you, the speed LIMIT is the maximum allowable speed.

Safeway you are so full of illogical demented BS that I hope you do get hit and DIE one of these days. You bring a negative benefit to the world. You're a angry misled pathetic individual. Seriously. You carry a GUN while riding around TOWN. That says it all.

By your twisted idea of what is "legal", this would be legal:

50 riders, riding single file, in the middle of the lane, on a two-lane road, regardless of the speed limit. Thus, making it essentially impossible for any cars to pass.

And don't give me this BS about riding at an average speed of 20-25 MPH. Uphills too, right? Believe in Santa clause, too?

Oh, and you are just another douche for riding a race-oriented bike on the streets. If you rode the type of bike you are SUPPOSED to be riding for our road conditions, it wouldn't be any trouble at all to ride closer to the edge, on sidewalks, or even on dirt. But deluded douche bags like you think that because some bikes are called "road bikes", that those are what you are supposed to ride on the road. NEGATIVE. I laugh at all the wanna-be losers riding road bikes on crappy streets and swerve all over the road trying to avoid every little crack, pebble, pothole, and rock.

Cycling is great, and efforts should be made to make cities more cycling friendly. But most of our road system (USA) is NOT setup with cyclists in mind. Causing automobile traffic grief because you refuse to accept the current reality makes YOU the wanker. The wheels of the world can't stop turning because some idiot wants to ride his stupid $5000 bike down the middle of the road.

P.S. In case you didn't know, everybody hates you. In class, at work, you name it.

Bicycles are afforded equal lane usage rights. Learn to respect the law fucker.

After hearing his rant and now your rant I think I'm going to side with him. Guys like you give bikers a really bad name.

Don't you do this every time you get in your car and drive to work? 😛

Bicycles are supposed to control the fucking lane they are in, or else, fucking scumbags like you will whiz past them and force them into the curb. You are in an air conditioned vehicle, they are pedaling their ass off. If anyone has time to wait around, it is your lazy, ignorant ass.

You are the type of person that bugs the fuck out of me while I am riding. You are the reason I always carry a gun with my while riding. I have been hit on purpose before by fucking expendable humans such as yourself. The next time a driver gets out of his vehicle at a stoplight to tell me what i should be doing instead of riding my bicycle on city streets, I am going to pull out my gun and point it square at his fucking face, imagining it was you, and watch the fucker piss and shit his pants, begging me to not end his worthless existence.

FUCK.

Wow.

First of all, you have 274 posts, so I expect you to be mentally incapable of understanding death. Secondly, the cyclist in the video was clearly not paying attention to the vehicles on the road, and rolled directly into the lane of an oncoming car.

Nothing in that video parallels what I am advocating. If that happened to me and I survived, I would thank god my stupidity didn't kill me and would pay more attention in the future.

Nice, wish me dead! That's the thing to do in this situation.

You bring a negative benefit to the world. You're a angry misled pathetic individual. Seriously. You carry a GUN while riding around TOWN. That says it all.

Yes, people get mugged and killed on Town Lake and Katy Trail. It is common enough to warrant carrying a concealed handgun.

By your twisted idea of what is "legal", this would be legal:

50 riders, riding single file, in the middle of the lane, on a two-lane road, regardless of the speed limit. Thus, making it essentially impossible for any cars to pass.

In fact, that would be legal. I have ridden in three bike tours this summer, and each of them where on open-to-vehicle roads. And now that you bring it up, there were 700 riders! Some of them riding two abreast! On the other tour, it was 900 riders! Also riding two abreast!

And want to know who SAG'd our ride? That is, who gave us food and water on 100 mile days? The State Police. Yes, the Oklahoma State Patrol sanctioned that ride. You think they would sanction an illegal ride with dirty bikers blocking the road? My "twisted" idea of legal happens to be the law. Your "twisted" idea of illegal may get you in trouble.

And don't give me this BS about riding at an average speed of 20-25 MPH. Uphills too, right? Believe in Santa clause, too?

I am training for amateur bike racing. I should start CAT 5 racing at the start of next season. I have ridden roughly 2000 miles this summer, since finishing this year of law school. Just because you cannot sprint 25 to 30 mph does not mean that others cannot. I am not claiming to average 30 mph for 130 miles as professional cyclist do. I can easily interval at 30 mph, sprinting from stop to stop.

Oh, and you are just another douche for riding a race-oriented bike on the streets. If you rode the type of bike you are SUPPOSED to be riding for our road conditions, it wouldn't be any trouble at all to ride closer to the edge, on sidewalks, or even on dirt.

So now you think it should be illegal to ride a road bike on the street, but a slower, clunkier cruiser would be perfectly acceptable? I ride what I race. It is called training. I also ride a touring bike with full panniers when I go to the grocery store.

Keeping proper tire pressure will drastically reduce the likelihood of a flat. I only swerve around potholes if the coast is clear and the pothole would damage my wheel set.

Cycling is great, and efforts should be made to make cities more cycling friendly. But most of our road system (USA) is NOT setup with cyclists in mind.

So bicycles should be outlawed? Don't bike because the roads were not designed with cyclists in mind? What about the original road infrastructure? They were designed with horses in mind, yet Model Ts started using them. Eventually, the transportation infrastructure changed to accept these new motor vehicles.

Same with bicycles. Though the current bicycle lane is in fact more dangerous that controlling a lane, it is a misguided step forward to integration.

How nice! Thanks 1 post coward. I shall slit my wrists now.

I did stop later because I have those mirrors that fold when you hit something instead of breaking off, so I had to fold it back and readjust it. :| That probably saved them!
It's not my problem they got too close and had to deal with the consequences.

Were they in a lane of traffic? Did you pass too close? If so, it is your fault. I hope that you someday pay for those two accidents.

I can't believe you admit to two hit and run accidents so flagrantly.

The other guy I hit was Elvis, and I was driving my Lambo.

I just stopped by the last page to see if Safeway was still a ranting like a lunatic.

I ride like I shouldn't be there and everyone is out to get me. problem solved.

Meh, I carry a U-Lock in my rear pocket. Someone gets a little too close and they lose a side mirror.

Thankfully I live in SF, so motorists just understand the rules of the road, which, at least as Cali puts it, is that I get a lane if there isn't a bike lane. The city/state also puts up lots of signs to remind everyone of this. of course it also helps that the max speed that you can typically get here is 30 mph due to all the traffic.

http://bikeblogs.org/sf/files/...d-use-of-full-lane.jpg.

That being said, I would probably bash the shit out of any car that attempted to hit me in any capacity, shape, or form.

what the hell does my post count have to do with it? i didn't post the video, moron.
i was just stating that if you want to ride in the middle of the lane, then take your chances.

you're just asking to get hit, regardless of how you interpret the law.

  1. when i bike, i hate the motorists. the pedestrians and motorists hate the bikers.
  1. when i drive, i hate the cyclists and the pedestrians. who cares what they think of me.
  1. when i walk. i dont care what everyone thinks.

I do want to defend the bikers today though. Ive been biking on this gravel road to work where guys with trucks like to zoom and kick up dust and pebbles all over me. GEEZ, slow down!

my bike is called a road bike, not a sidewalk bike. hence, Im on the road, especially on roads without sidewalks, and roads with sidewalks with a bunch of pedestrians. however, on a four lane highway with a sidewalk, Id take the sidewalk.

however, according to my local laws, as a biker I can take the road whenever i deem necessary, and you must give me 3 feet of clearance when you pass. This law was most recently passed when a young biker lady got squished by a car passing and turning right.
