More bullshit from OCZ. I hope this company goes up in flames like many others have.

I never understood the love for OCZ. They were terrible years ago and seam to have a good job marketing themselves.

What does this mean for people that own an "E" series drive? Are they saying that the actual usable space will be less?

I just bought one of these drives and IIRC, I had 111gb's free out of the 120gb drive. Isn't that about normal?

Thats normal for the 34nm drive. The new 25nm drives show as having 107gbs.

I bought mine on January 21st form newegg and got the 25nm edition. Sad part is at that time they had not even announced they were switching yet.

I like how they highlight the capacity thing as if that's the primary issue. Aren't people WAY more concerned about the performance differences than the slight capacity difference?

I picked up my second Vertex 2 drive in early January, fortunately it gives me 111GB to use.

I wonder what the actual price difference is for OCZ?

How do I know if I have the 34nm or the 25nm drive? If you have the 34nm drive, then you are fine?

Woha so they sell you the drive for the same price as the 34nm version, cash in the difference and now want you to pay the difference once again so that you get the version you assumed you would get anyway?

Wow, anand really should do a small piece about this just to make sure everyone gets the information when looking for new drives (well at least increase the chances!)

I think OCZ did a very poor job in handling this issue. I was going to get a Vertex 2 today, but after reading what is happening, I decided I will just wait and see. :(

The fact that they are wanting to double dip their customers like this amazes me.

You kidding me with this? They don't let anyone know the changes they made to their product. The new product is inferior to the old product. If you want to replace your new product with the old product you send them more money?

Does that sum it up?

Yup. If you send them more money they'll ship you the drive you thought you were getting in the first place. They're scumbags.

Makes sense from a business profit/inventory management perspective. If they're the first one to market with 25nm, there's no point dropping prices and immediately obsoleting their old inventory.

Better to keep prices/product names the same until they sell off their 34nm drives. This gets rid of old inventory and gives higher margins for the new drives. After that, they can drop prices and steal market share from competitors.

Just sayin'. makes sense from a business perspective.

That's what model numbers are for. Not changing the MODEL number of the new 25nm product is blatant misrepresentation of their product.

That is sad. I think they are not handling their customer feedback well. :\ Surely selling something that is not performing to specs or even close to specs is not right.

I wonder how much of their sales come from tech-savy users who can tell the difference between 25nm and 34nm. If most of their profits are driven by best-buy geek squad sales, or people looking for the cheapest SSD with X-capacity, then they're not really hurt by this.

Not that I agree with charging users to exchange the drives (even if it only the direct cost of the NAND, OCZ should eat the difference and move on), but they actually did revise the model number.

The 25nm drives are OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G and the older drives are OCZSSD2-2VTX120G for the 120GB drive.

Mine has the "E" but the capacity shows as 111GB! Now it's really confusing. this was bought based on a "hot deal" at the beginning of Jan.. It's been fine so far, no issues to note.

Just saw a post at their forums which one of their support guys stated:
You also show 111.79GB, which means you don't have a 25nm drive, you have a 34nm drive.
I then ran "AS-SSD Benchmark" and am getting scores similar to folks with the 34nm based drives. Yet mine has the "E" designation. Make me wonder if those folks know what the hell they are talking about!
Anyway, it seems I got one of the original drives, hopefully it will continue to function OK.
But based on the current situ at OCZ I wouldn't purchase another SSD there at this time.

Mine also has the "E" designation but has 93% of stated capacity similar to 34nm drive and also gets AS SSD scores of 34nm.

hmmmm....

Mine has the E and is 55gb as well as its on 1.27 well when it was still alive. THe Drive is Dead waiting for OCZ's stupid RMA process which is slowest I have seen.

I pulled out the box from my purchase in January and its an "E" also, but formats at 111GB. It would appear they switched the packaging before their inventory was fully cleared of 34nm parts.
