25nm Vortex 2 Another official statement from OCZ.

What they mean is that only "E" drives have had their NAND switched to 25nm. (so there are 2 versions of the "E" drives, the 34nm and the 25nm.) The "non-E" drives are unaffected. At least that is what I can tell.

Ah, that makes more sense 🙂
Probably why folks are screaming about "false advertising" over there. The swapped component parts but not the drive designation.
I just hope mine lasts!!

I have never been impressed with anything sold by OCZ. I have always saved myself a lot of trouble and aggravation by avoiding any of their products. There are so many similar products sold by legitimate companies that back up their products that there is no need to do any business with them.

Read the reviews on Newegg about the Vertex 2 here. People are PISSED, and rightfully so. I'm a grad student, and I don't have a lot of spare money laying around. Now I'm going to have to pay to send this piece of junk drive back to them? What a crock of shit.

I will NEVER buy another product from them. I've had my Vertex 2 drive for 2 months. It's been nothing but miserable from day 1. I had the sleep mode / coma mode error hit me twice. About 6 weeks in I started getting bad sector errors all over the disk, none of which were fixable. Then W7 started freezing and crashing. Then it stopped booting completely. Windows diagnostic can't fix the error, in fact it can't even see the disc. I try just reinstalling Windows, but the installation can't even detect the OCZ drive. I swapped in another drive I have just to be sure it wasn't something else in the system, and it boots up fine. So I decide to run killdisk on the OCZ to erase any data before RMA'ing it..the result? It gets part way through and then freezes up when it hits a bad sector. RMA'ing it and hoping for the best

Is it the 25mn drive? If so, you can exchange it free for either the 34 or a 25 with 64Gb chips (don't remember which option it is). Check the OCZ forums sticky.

Other than the super slow times to respond to "comments" (it takes about one day per response to each message), the gist is this:
You can tell if your drive is 25nm using 64gbit chips if a 60GB drive shows up as 55GB in your BIOS and 51GB formatted in Windows or a 120GB drive shows up as 115GB in your BIOS and 107 formatted.
If that happens to you, you can RMA your drive and you'll get back EITHER (no guarantee) a 34nm drive or a 25nm drive, each manufactured using 32gbit chips. The 60GB will show up as 60GB in your BIOS and 55GB formatted and the 120GB will show up as 120GB in your BIOS and 111GB formatted.

Mine has the E and is 55gb as well as its on 1.27 well when it was still alive. THe Drive is Dead waiting for OCZ's stupid RMA process which is slowest I have seen.

i can't wait until people start sending in their 34nm drives for RMA and get 25nm back. then ocz telling them they have to pay a fee if they want another 34nm drive.

I'll call the attorney general for my state if they try pulling that bullshit with me.
I think what he meant was that people sent in their 34nm SSDs to get replaced, not for the normal RMA process. Which is quite hilarious, because you would think someone would stop and think a few seconds ("Do I even miss the 4gb I'm angry about?") or just read the thread before sending in his system drive.

But anyhow if they do that for RMAs of 34nm drives you can become angry, but considering that their 34nm stock is clearing, chances are pretty good that sometime in the future 34nm SSDs will be replaced with 25nm ones (but after that disaster not with reduced capacity). Don't think you could do something about that since they nowhere promise you specific speeds as far as I understand.

Can anyone provide an update on the OCZ Vertex 2E situation? For instance, has OCZ confirmed that all new 2E SSDs will be made using 25nm 32Gbs NAND modules?

Thanks.

AFAIK, all the big players are shifting to 25nm NAND, so 32nm NAND is getting very hard to find..

Is there an article that explains the performance drop? I read something about read/write cycles but don't know if the two are related.
