"Will it survive a 1.8a to 2.3ghz overclock?"
the pny 128 samsung ddrs we got had no problem ocing.

"Which one is the better chip? Samsung or Infineon?"
i see infineon stickers on the lemans gt racecars :)

"Also, does anyone know if these could be OC'ed to PC2700 (i.e. from 266 to 333)?"
i got my boss to test them out on his machine, as he was frustrated because he couldn't overclock the corsair or the ocz 512 he was getting (corsair rmaed him a new rev. and he straight now :)) without lunching xp. they both ran right @ 356 if i remember what he told me correctly...

Thanks unclebud. That's good to hear.

Now I can start looking for a good deal on a KT333 motherboard. :)

plenty in San Francisco, the store had 15-20 when I was there. As far as I could tell, all were the Infineon chips.

Got one, it's marked SAMSUNG K4H280838C-TCA0

As previously mentioned, this link shows it as a 16X8 100 Mhz w/ CL=2 DDR chip.

I'm under the impression that we are expecting a 133 Mhz CL=2.5 DDR chip - K4H280838C-TCB0.

K4H280438C / K4H280838C

Organization----- 133Mhz w/ CL=2 ----- 133Mhz w/ CL=2.5 ------ 100Mhz w/ CL=2

32Mx4 -------K4H280438C-TCA2 ----- K4H280438C-TCB0 ----- K4H280438C-TCA0

----------------K4H280438C-TLA2 ----- K4H280438C-TLB0 ----- K4H280438C-TLA0

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16Mx8 -------K4H280838C-TCA2 ----- K4H280838C-TCB0 ----- K4H280838C-TCA0

----------------K4H280838C-TLA2 ------ K4H280838C-TLB0------ K4H280838C-TLA0

Strange thing is, Sandra2002 shows it as a 133 Mhz chip when I installed it. Looks I'll have to make further test or else I'm returning them. What the chance of the chips being mislabled???? :confused:

Update:

Intel DRAM Component Validation Results shows the same info..... 256Mb 32Mx8 200 2-2-2 K4H560838B-TCA0_0112. Now I'm :confused:

THis also comes right from samsungs website

A0 = 100mhz

B0 = 133 mhz

A2= 133mhz

B3= 166mhz

The CAS latency has to be taken into consideration as well (because you can run the same chip at a higher frequency if you set a higher CAS latency):

B3: DDR333 (166MHz@CL=2.5)
A2: DDR266A (133MHz@CL=2)
B0: DDR266B (133MHz@CL=2.5)
A0: DDR200 (100MHz@CL=2)

I think these also correspond to speeds of 6ns, 7ns, 7.5ns and 8ns respectively.

Basically, DDR333, DDR266A, DDR266B and DDR200 are JEDEC standards specifying performance requirements of DDR memory.

This page describes how to interpret Samsung part numbers.

Edit: Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the speeds correspond to the frequencies at CL=2.5, i.e.:

1/(6ns) = 166MHz
1/(7ns) = 143MHz
1/(7.5ns) = 133MHz
1/(8ns) = 125MHz

These are frequencies you can run the chip at if you set CL=2.5.

Did anyone get anything other than Samsung? I got Infinion yesterday at Pasadena B&M, I don't trust their on line dept 'cso last time I order the crucial about 1/2 - 1 year ago, I order them online and pick up at the store, by the time I got their next day, they don't have them anymore even they charged to my CC already, so I went to Pasadena B&M and luckly their have a lot of them yesterday. By the way, I also buy the Mag 19" Monitor for $149 before $50 rebate. I think it was a lucky trip.
FYI, price of the DDR is going up, FOB Taiwan a 256DDR cost about $58 last week, I think the memory will keep going up this week.

I heard Elixir is OEM by Taiwan Semiconductor without their brand name (TSMC), but it may have some compatibility with some latest MSI motherboard, otherwise it is pretty good and stable. Good luck.
