24 hours in Jail, or 24 hours community service? [POLL]

I was in jail for about 18 hours recently. It was nothing. Processing, processing, processing, dump into a cell (shared with a freshly jailed murderer, scared little black kid), they accomodated me with a torn up 1/2 inch thick "mattress" that was dumped on the floor (murderer got the metal bench style bed with a near identical mattress- commented to me that it was comfortable), let me out of the cell 6 hours later, taken to bond hearing, sent back to cell, finally allowed out of cell and to another processing area, then forced to sign paperwork that said I had received my personal effects just before they were given to me (they included a belt, shoestrings, and less than $1 in change).

All in all its just going to be 24 hours of being carted around and put through an arbitrary very slow annoying process. I give you a 99.99% chance of not getting cornholed. The inmates that you are going to be in jail with are all going to be freshly incarcerated. They aren't going to be guys that have been behind bars for months or years looking for someone to have sex with.

Good point.

No, you can help the community in alot of ways, besides being their bitch for 2 weeks. 😉

I'd take the 2 days and sleep for most of it.

You're gonna do an over-nighter at some minimum security county outfit where you're gonna sit on a couch in a day room and watch TV, read a book, or shoot some hoops. Spend the night in a sh!ty bunk bed and eat some sh!ty chili-mac, wake up and go home. You won't even be there long enough to get assigned a work detal or even take a shower. Don't talk to anyone and they won't talk to you. You did the crime, now do the time and get it over with. No raking the yard at the court house every weekend, no doing fundraisers for MADD, no meetings, and no having to go be a mentor to high school delinquents who could give a sh!t less anyway. Go on a Saturday so you won't miss work and once its done, its done.

Oh yeah, don't even bother with wasting $$$$ on an attorney who isn't gonna do crap for your case except drag it out for about a year and leave you broke. There is life after DUI. Sure it's a bid deal, but it's not THAT big of deal. Just be thankful you didn't kill anyone and take time to reflect, learn, and grow from this experience.

Don't ask me how I know...
JR..

CS only because I would not want jail time on my record.

The crime is already on his record. It makes no difference if he goes to jail over night or does community service. Either way, he's already been booked and printed. Either way he'll have to deal with his PO. He's already in the system and it's already on his record.

CS just drags out the punishment. Trust me, one over-nighter is not a big deal. It's not like you go to federal 'pound me ITA' prison for a 1st offense DUI.

really depends on your physical size and what area of the country you are located in AND if your jail is in the inner-city or just some rural area.

Take your pick

Los Angeles County Jail or Community Service

Listen bucko, when you get a DUI, you get a record, jail time or not. Go to the cage, sleep it off, and your out. 🙂

Go to jail, sit on the floor and hug your knees rocking back and forth while muttering satanic prayers and blinking furiously.

No one will touch you.

Do the community service. Trust me.. I spent 20 hours or so in jail and it was horrible. I have ADD and have trouble entertaining myself at home. I must've read the 'first day in jail' pamphlet 800 times. I would've killed for a book. The feeling you get of being in a jail really sucks - worthless, reject, etc.. The beds are impossibly uncomfortable and the 'blankets' they gave me were 4ft by 4ft sections of cloth - impossible to keep warm. Also, the beds were too small for anyone over 5 feet 8 or so.

Plus, the food is scary. The sandwich we were given made a better pillow than a sandwich (oh ya.. they didn't give us a pillow or anything like that). I found out later that everyone else pretty much used the sandwich as a pillow.

IMO, at least with community service, you're helping the community and you get to pick how you do it. When I did community service (not for punishment), I worked at Meals on Wheels. A lot of them were great people and the 8-hour days went by really fast.

That 20 hours in jail, however, sucked. It's like the night that never ends.. I'd rather have food poisoning.

Most people haven't spent a night in jail - so most probby voted for it. They do not make jail fun.

Most meth addicts feel that way too. Not implying anything, of course. 😉

Do the 2 nights and be done with it dude!
