24 blocks is not much to walk to work, is it?

What about delays crossing the intersections??

I guess it depends where you live, people here are fearless!

Haha, yeah, here in D.C. people jump to the road as soon as they get a chance. I may as well do the same. I guess I should also mention that I walk 5 blocks from the parking lot to the office in around 2 minutes.

So you walk 1/2 mile in 2 minutes? That's quite impressive.

Quite impressive indeed. I believe that would be a world record for walking. :D

I'm sure if he actually timed himself he would find it takes much longer.

No way would I walk 2 miles to work. I'd ride a bike.

WTF. 0.5 miles in 10-15 minutes?

Is this you?

Given the 3 mph someone mentioned above, 10 minutes sounds about right for a half mile at a leisurely pace.

Hmm, apparently it was 4 blocks and 0.3 miles. But I swear, I do walk that in 2 minutes. 2.5 at most.

Well I guess .3 could be rounded up from as little as .25, so at 2.5 minutes for a quarter mile that's a 10 minute pace or 6 miles per hour, which would be a really brisk walk or a jog. The world record for 20 km racewalk is roughly a 10 mph pace, so I guess it's not impossible. :)

I am gonna time it with a chronometer tomorrow. Will post results!

I have to stop at no less than half a dozen or so traffic lights. Depending on how I catch the lights that might add another 5 or so minutes onto my trip. Considering that the average person would walk 0.5 miles in ~10 minutes I don't see how that's that far off.

Shens.

That gives you a range of somewhere between 6-9 miles a minute, not far off the average speed of most joggers. You're either jogging or walking at an incredible pace.

I prefer to take it easy. Enjoy the scenery a bit.

It gets disgustingly hot and humid in this area during the summer. I don't sweat as much as the average joe but if I tried to walk 2 1/2 miles in a suit during the summer I'd definitely need to freshen up. Save yourself some grief and get a metro pass.

Turkish, you're a retard. I see like four of your threads and they all have pointed me to this conclusion.

Good, because according to your numbers you're likely to beat the world record.

Hey, I'd be glad to see it, but let's get some accurate results here. In fact, take a video or something so there's no capacity for shens :)

I'll record my time tomorrow as well just out of curiosity.

I dunno... I think biking with a suit on will be pretty bad...

Walking in DC in the summertime in a suit will be pretty bad.

I'd leave home around 7:15 am and head back around 7:30pm. You really think it will be that bad at that time?

I thought you used to live in Virginia? DC is pretty bad during the summer. It will be at least Upper 70's to lower 80's at 7am and will likely be upper 80's to lower 90's at 7:30pm. I just don't see it possible to walk 2.5 miles without getting a little of a sweat worked up -- especially in a suit.

Well I am in Virginia at the moment but moving to downtown DC sometime during this week. Still haven't decided on the apartment. This is one of the many possibilities (20+)... Ok, I think walking is out for sure though... sweating is not good!

Figure about 3 miles per hour on a pleasant day.

Wash D.C. gets very humid in summer, & then you'll get to work dripping sweat.

O.K. if you can shower & change at office before work.

Average foot speed over uneven ground - barring injury is approximately four miles an hour!

6-9 miles a minute is closer to the average speed of most regional jets than most joggers ;)
