I mean... what the fuck? This is beyond tragedy to just plain comically ridiculous. I hope they execute this drain on society immediately. Fuck appeals.

SUMTER, South Carolina (AP) -- An ex-convict who said he thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old trick-or-treater, spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door, police said Saturday.
Crime scene tape blocks off the home of Quentin Patrick, 22, who is charged with killing 12-year-old T.J. Darrisaw.

...

Patrick emptied his AK-47, shooting at least 29 times through his front door, walls and windows after hearing the knock, Police Chief Patty Patterson said.

He told police he had been robbed and shot in the past year.

"He wasn't going to be robbed again, and he wasn't going to be shot again," Patterson said Saturday at a news conference.

...

Police said they also charged a 19-year-old in his home, Ericka Patrice Pee (lol), with obstruction of justice when she was caught trying to run away after the shooting with $7,500 in cash. Patterson did not give an explanation for the money.

...

"We want to let his family know that this is a total tragic accident," he said. "He was trying to protect his family."

...

"It's going to put a dampening on Halloween," Eden said. "I would think twice about going to a door that we don't know who lives behind."

Ya... ring on Halloween night, wonder who that might be. Let's just start snapping before we even look out the window or ask who it is.

Maybe the kids were dressed up as ghosts.

Did the guy that robbed and shot him earlier in the year ring the doorbell then also?

Most the burglars I know ring the front doorbell too I guess.

No, just why most felons should be killed.

In Larry Niven's SF stories felons have their organs harvested so something good can be done with their wasted lives. We just need to solve tissue rejection problems and find cures for the felons' STDs (AIDS, hepatitus) and we can start up the program.

I don't know why anyone (other than military or certain police) needs fully automatic weapons. It's one thing to own a gun....another to have weapons like this. *shakes head*.

He obviously didn't own it legally. He was a felon, so unless he went through a serious amount of hoops he probably couldn't even own a gun by law. I don't think it says it was an automatic, so one of two things was true:

it's irrelevant because he owned an illegal weapon (if it WAS auto you need an FFL to own it, and you need the state to allow it) which is impossible to stop anyway

or

the weapon is irrelevant because absolutely any semi-auto could do basically the same thing, and any shotgun would have had the same end result, and probably any old style revolver for that matter

It sucks, and obviously the guy should not have been spared from his earlier punishment, but it had nothing to do with the weapon or gun laws.

To be clear -
The article didn't say it was an automatic weapon, nor did it say he had been convicted of any felonies.

That article doesn't, but other articles do report him as a felon.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am not familiar with that State's laws, but ex cons usually are not allowed to own guns. And the article was long on emotion and short on facts, it may be dubious to use the term spray
for the shooting, but the question is, was the AK-47 semi automatic or fully automatic? If Fully auto, there is another big crime.

Why is it I smell an insanity defense coming up? Will the NRA feature this in the armed citizen annals of gun ownership self defense? I don't believe in the death penalty but this loser should NEVER get out of jail.
He is a clear and ever present danger to others, and at 22 years old, there is no hope for rehabilitation. It could have been you, or I, or a police officer that happened to knock on that door, and any of us could have shared that same fate.

I agree, just kill him.

BTW, the Armed Citizen column doesn't list murderers, but actual defensive gun uses.

This is a perfect example of how horrible gun owners ruin our rights...
.. as much as I am against gun laws in anyway shape or form, I can understand why people would want to push for this type of thing. He is a fucking idiot.

Why, why, WHY do you think the NRA would approve of this?
