Let it run over night. Somewhere b/t 9 and 12 hours is sufficient to say that "I have a successful overclock."

I'm messing with mine again. I should've left well enough alone. I was playing around at 11.5 x 200 for awhile. Fast but the CPU was close to 60C. Way too hot for me. Now I turned it back down to where I had it before (12x185) and I can't get P95 to run for more than 15 minutes w/o crashing. :| I even upped the voltage. I wonder if I burned something up or something? Bah.

Lower the voltage! Your heatsink might not be able to take all that heat.

Hmm...didn't think of that. BRB.

Alright, just popped the other 2100+ in the board. In Windows right now at 166x13 at 1.8v. Think I applied too little AS3 to the first CPU, considering this is running a full 6 degrees cooler under full load at a higher voltage. As of right now I cannot say that these overclocks are stable. This is like trying to overclock with the stock heatsink in excess of 450mhz. It is not looking too pretty right now. I'm sure I could get these to at least 2.3ghz once I get my reservoir back. Oh, btw, my friend just placed all the orders for his new system. I'll have an update for that this weekend ;) (including his Athlon XP 2100+ and all of mine tested in his Epox 8RDA+ and Watercooling).

Wow...makes me want to get a watercooling rig too...but I'm very scared off adding water to electricity...something about that just scares me. :Q ;)

Well, it didn't like going down to 1.650 at all. Windows DT crashed right out and back to the bios. :(

I'm running 11.5 x 185 = 2.13GHz @ 1.700 v. I could get the same by going stock multi (13) x 166, but we all know bandwith is where it's at, right? ;)

The first thing I did when reaching the DT is run the P95 Torture Test. This is about the time when it craps out...we shall see. Right now, temps are 48C/34C. I've seen that once my CPU temp hits around 51C, that's when bad things happen.

I know it's not the memory, since I was running 200MHz earlier. Adding AS3 to the Northbridge really makes a difference. You can feel how hot the HS gets, whereas before it just got warm. Hot=effective heat transfer. I'm thinking about putting a faster fan on my AX-7...try to bring the temps down a little. But I've gotten SO used a nice, quiet system. I have a Sunon BB fan...it's not that loud, but it is louder than the Vantec Stealth Fan that's on there now. We'll see.

Aight, on the 2nd 2100+ right now, gonna leave the TT running overnight, see if it holds out, but I doubt it. This cooler wasn't even supposed to be used on these processors, darn thing was supposed to be used on a stock XP 1600+, but you gotta do what you gotta do ;).

any stock heatsink would scare me

Hehe no, I admit, I'm a MHZwhore :D ;) I'd push my FSB more, but at the timings I have to run up in the 190's, I think its probably better for me to run faster at a lower FSB with faster timings.

174 x 14 looks much better...Prime has been running for about 4 hours now, in the meantime I was playing some MechAssault on XBox Live with my TV tuner. Not sure how, but its working again. Couldn't be my OC, b/c it was acting up before I put this chip in. Oh well, working now, I'm not complaining :)

Yah I was thinking about water today as well. Figured I had spent enough on different air solutions over the years, I probably shoulda just invested in a nice pump and water block and been done with it. Problem is, I don't have room for a pump, reservoir and radiator in my case :( I could maybe get away with it if I removed my internal HDD rack, but its got my RAIDed 120GB Maxtor Ultras in it, and my 3.5'' are full as well.

Anyways, I had to do something, so I picked up an SLK-800 and a Crystal Orb from SVC and a Rheobus from Xoxide. You guys are using quiet fans and doing pretty well, I'm using a damn blowdryer!! (TT Smartmod II fan, except mine is dumb and won't let me adjust it :| ) I guess I'm hoping the SLK will compensate enough so that I can drop the RPMs on the Coolmod.

Chiz

Btw, is Jen just sitting waiting for us to fry our CPUs??? We need her water to find out how fast these things can go!!! ;)

But all is not well. All SANDRA tests rock. 3DMARK goes w/o a hitch, but P95 keeps crashing. :( I'm currenlty at 2.77v memory at 1.8v CPU.

If you remember correctly, When I was at 12x185 all I needed was 1.650v to be stable. Now, my multi is lower and CPU speed is actually 30MHz less (negligible, I guess) so why is P95 still erroring? it errors out only about two minutes into the test.

What voltage should I up next? My timings are CAS2, 2-3-4.

I think you need to adjust your RAM timing... I am not sure what you are running for RAM, but I have some Corsair XMS PC3200C and I am running it at 2,2,2,6.... I believe your setting of 4 is incorrect.

Try that and see what happens.

Best ram setting for overclocking are 2-3-3-7, anything lower and you have to have some mighty nice ram (not even 3200 is worth the risk IMO, especially if your pushing 200mhz fsb). I've heard of people killing hard drives with ram timings due to write and read errors by the memory, I have not seen this happen first hand but I've read the horror stories at overclockers.com.

Aight, Prime 95 ran for 8 hours, not one crash at 166x13. Before I left for school at 730ish, I set the speed to 170x13 and let Prime run till I get home at 2:30, which should gimme about 7 hours of testing, hope its good.

I smell Athlon XP 2100+ ;)

BTW, about to try to Prime either 177x13 or 180x13 to break the 2.3ghz barrier.
