21% of South Carolina are retarded bitter partisans

South Carolina Senate: DeMint 58%, Greene 21%

LOL?!?! 21% of the state is really voting for Greene?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/12/us/politics/12greene.html

"Because everyone wants to know how Mr. Greene, an unemployed Army veteran who had been completely unknown until Tuesday, inexplicably defeated a heavily favored former legislator and judge to become the state’s Democratic nominee for the Senate — and the state’s latest political circus act.

Mr. Greene had just a few peaceful hours to savor his victory in the tiny, ramshackle home he shares with his elderly father along a quiet highway in Manning, where he has been bunkered since election night. Then, The Associated Press reported that Mr. Greene was arrested in November and is facing a felony obscenity charge; he is accused of showing pornography to a University of South Carolina student. He had been discharged “involuntarily” from the Army and showed no signs of having waged an actual campaign in recent months — no advertising, no staff, no money.

Mr. Greene, who declined to comment on the obscenity charge, would not say how he came up with the $10,440 to register his candidacy. Representative James E. Clyburn, Democrat of South Carolina and the House majority whip, suggested that Mr. Greene was a “Republican plant” and that the circumstance reeked of the “shenanigans” that have become the state’s trademark.

“We have embarrassment fatigue here,” said Dick Harpootlian, the former Democratic chairman of the state. “If there is an embarrassment equivalent of post-traumatic stress disorder, South Carolina has it.”

But isn't Greene the type of regular guy (ie unemployed American) the teabaggers always toot their horn about?

I dont believe unemployed people that have felony charges pending are who the "teabaggers" (you sound so fucking cool saying that, Keith) toot their horn about.

I'd say the other 58% has nothing to brag about either ...

Exactly. Regardless if the conservative guy is a great candidate, he's going to get the votes of all the hacks that would vote for him even if he molested children, just so long as he mentions Jesus and small government.

Kind of like this alleged felon garners 21% of the hacks on your side of the fence?

ummm no. regular guys don't get arrested for showing obscene material to college girls, have a dishonorable discharge, etc... and regular guys can at least name the person they are running against.

But 21%... says a lot. I am sure that can be broken down to partisan hacks, people voting solely based on race, people who have no clue and just put the check mark on the D. Yes, I know the other side can be guilty of the same thing... but 21% with the caliber of a candidate like this does say a lot about voters.

Jim DeMint has done a terrible job as senator, so I'm honestly surprised only 21% want him gone.

If I lived in SC I'd be looking for a 3rd party candidate right about now, as neither one of the main candidates are acceptable.

"he is accused of showing pornography to a University of South Carolina student."

What?

This is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen..

Everything about this has to be part of a TV show... The charge, the candidate, everything... I want to see the episode where he is arrested over the obscenity charges.. what is up with that.

How on earth is a legitimate democrat not running as an independent??

have a dishonorable discharge

It was an honorable discharge (failure to maintain body weight standards), and he got 4 medals during his time in uniform.

Not saying he's a good candidate, but making up stuff about his military record is stepping over the line.

a felony to show someone porn if they don't want to see it? WTF!?

yeah this story is all over the news. many are suspecting something is going on.

I think you can also see this from the perspective that it is amazing that we have a society and political system where some Joe Blow schmuck can make a bid for political office. I think it is somewhat nice to see this sort of situation attacking the face of the entrenched business-as-usual politician.

I am not endorsing the guy; I have no clue what his stance on subjects are. However I am just pointing out that the principle and idea of being an upstart is somewhat intriguing.

Edit:
All of the above assuming it is not some political shenanigans, which would make it, quite indeed, business as usual.

I don't know. Seriously, I think some people are voting for him simply for the "Being There" effect. A complete enigma.

Problem is the average Joe Blow can;t make a run like this and that is why people are looking at this. How many here could drop 10k+ easy and not worry about it just to get your name on a ticket and then not advertise or even put up a sign. If I drop 10k on somethign I better have a chance of winning and you better bet I would have signs up, knocking on doors, etc... to get my 10k worth.
Either he is a plant or he is nuts. He seems kinda nuts from what little I have read but something is not adding up. Hell even a voting machine error seems more likly then him winning outright.

agreed

But where did a broke unemployed guy come up with the $10,400 for his primary registration fee? If someone gave it to him he didn't file a disclosure report, which is probably a more significant crime than showing dirty pictures to an adult.

As far as his 21%, it's likely a big chunk of it is protest votes against DeMint and people (like me) who always lie to pollsters on general principles.
