in the meantime, here's some deets:

5.5L flat plane V8, estimated 8500-9000rpm redline
~600hp

sweet baby jesus

i haven't been this interested in a car in a long time - seems like most impressive unveils as of late have all been 6 figures or even 7.

I bet they scrap that powerplant and make it an EV.

PHEV already expected in a year or two and full EV a couple years after. People also want that flat plane crank.
I was joking because we're not there in the market. I get it though....EV torque can be unreal.

I'm in agreement with the OP....that engine sound it pretty sick. If I owned a car like that, I'd want to move to the salt flats and invest in a track for the backyard so I could open it up and not get speeding tickets all the time.

I'll take that Ferrari sound over the EV instant torque while I can still get it.

I forgot if it was amazon or what, but some of those cheesy EV delivery vans they're making these days are quiet enough that they're equipped with a speaker and a fake engine noise for "Safety". Maybe they can load some custom soundtracks to make the new ones sound like a diesel.

i'd be a little worried about that. the Nurburgring, on the other hand ;)

...The Grand tour did this joke, IRL, in an episode.

Revealed? Does it not look like the other ones? I would imagine the body and interior will look remarkably the same, no? Could be my ignorance but ...

And considering the wait times from deposit/order to delivery pushing well into Q4 2022 and beyond I can only wonder how the Z06 will be in getting into the hands of the people. Hasn't GM been talking about being thousands of units shy in delivering orders due to decent demand? Its gonna be like trying to buy one of those mythical CPUs or even worse, those high-flying video thingamajiggies.

Z06 is where the wide body Corvette gets introduced. So no, it’s not remarkably the same. Interior will be very similar though.

In recent generations it has been:

Base + Z51 (narrow body) followed closely by the Z06 (wide body + available big aero) and then a couple years later when sales start to slow they release the grand sport which gives you the wide body with base power capped by the ZR1 at the end of the generation.

This generation an electrified version is expected to replace the Grand Sport hopefully still with wide body (tires++).

Being someone that has never owned a Corvette this was very enlightening. Thanks. Question, when you say wide-body are you saying the body is actually wide due to an increase in chassis width? I knew the Z06's were made in another facility than the rest of the vettes but I had no idea the physical dimensions were different to differentiate in widths. This reminds me of how Honda built two kinds of Accords in Marysville, OH. The ones we see on the roads of America and a narrow body meant for Europe.

The ZO6 is the real Corvette. This is an important date. The ZR1 may be significant simply because the new Corvette is a mid engine car. For the most part the Z06 is what people who watch cars look for.

Last couple generations have had slightly wider fenders to accommodate wider wheels and tires. The chassis is materially different to reduce weight, but I'm pretty sure it's dimensionally the same.

I mean, I know the new Tesla Plaid goes 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds, which is bonkers, but for me, it's not just about speed...I like having a cool-looking car, I like the engine noise (granted, mine is fake lol), I like having a stick-shift, I like having a gas-powered motor underneath the hood to manipulate as I drive. iirc the new vette doesn't have a stick-shift option, but I think it's mega cool-looking in-person & I'd imagine it's a total blast to drive!

Exactly. EVs don't play fair on torque and acceleration.....umm....or weight. I want to see a 1960s or 1970s era muscle car go up against a Tesla in a demolition derby and see which one catches fire first.

I remember they did a shootout between a Tesla & a Hellcat, and the Hellcat got whupped, but the the ending shot was something like the Hellcat doing donuts with the engine revving & MAN that's hard to beat as an IRL experience lol

Ever see the GM EV1 burnout footage? The probably 1998 EV that General Motors came out with could lay rubber down the street like crazy. The battery tech just wasn't there for that kind of driving....and maybe isn't today.

If I buy an EV in the next 5 years, it's going to be a golf cart.

My buddy's dad actually had one of those! It was a fantastically cool car at the time! FP&L had a special program for it back in the day: (paywall warning)

This was the late 90's...I was in high school & we had like an '89 Grand Marquis, so an electric car that also looked really cool (from the front, at least! lol) was pretty dang novel at the time! Our family car was a BOAT compared to it (213.5" long lol). Google says the Mercury had a 150hp V-8 with 270 lb⋅ft of torque & was RWD. Man, this brings back memories...I remember having to spin the steering wheel like the Wheel of Fortune to take turns lol. It had the mafia "eight-body trunk" haha. My current whip is an '18 4-cylinder Ecoboost Mustang, which in comparison is a 310hp turbo with 350 lb-ft of torque, plus there's like a foot of empty space on either side of the engine because it's not the V-8 Coyote engine lol. The efficiency of engines today are AMAZING!

I recently test-drove both the 4-cylinder & 6-cylinder new Broncos and they're both hilariously powerful. Anyone complaining about the lack of a V-8, particularly in the larger, heavier 4-door Bronco, simply hasn't driven one with the modern engines. The 2.7L V-6 is a twin-turbo with something like 310HP or 315HP & 400 lb-ft torque. Like, it HAULS! Same deal with the Mach-E electric Mustang...even the non-GT is stupid fast! It's amazing how far cars have come in just 20 years, to the point where you can hop online & order a 0-60 in 1.99s Tesla for like $140k or whatever. Makes me wonder what the physical limit is for street-legal cars!

i might not own this car, but the next time one of those "drive a supercar on a track" deals comes up, THIS would get me to buy in. screw the ferraris, lamborghinis or whatever else. this would be my pick.

My grandfather has a 1995 Ford Bronco (5.8L Windsor), and while the sound is a lot more menacing, the get up and go of that 210HP 300lb. ft. torque V8 is nothing compared to the 2.7L twin turbo in the new Bronco!

That said, the new power train is almost entirely focused on moving itself, and maybe a small trailer, while grandfather's old Bronco is capable of towing well over double what the new Bronco can. They definitely re-prioritized.

For every day living, while the Eddie Bauer leather seats in his Bronco are definitely comfortable, having more usable seating room, more get up and go, and better fuel economy make the new Bronco a far easier vehicle to live with.
