Russia's superstar tested positive for a banned substance two months ago.

Maybe this is why when you ban a country for massive doping violations you should actually ban them. When I watched her long program I said to my wife "I bet she is doping." Unfortunately I was right, and I doubt she was the only one on that team. What's really sad is she probably didn't even need to to still win.

Seems like a way for the Russian team to finish her career and wash their hands of her completely.

I was on Youtube reading comments and one commenter mentioned that the coaches only care about the medals and that there are skaters waiting in the wings to take her place.
She's probably the best woman's skater of all time and you think they are happy she got caught?

I'm confused. What PED would actually help in figure skating? Injury recovery? Stamina? Recreational drugs?

The drug detected, trimetazidine, is a metabolic agent that helps prevent angina attacks and treats vertigo, according to the European Union’s medicines agency. It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency because it can help endurance and increase blood flow efficiency.

Increases blood flow to the heart during intense excursion, allowing for increased endurance. You know so a skater can do more and harder jumps, especially at the end of the program when they get a bonus.

No way she actually had an undeclared medical condition. This is always what the Russians, "Who me? I had no idea this was a PED, I just have always had a legitimate use for it, I just never declared it and have taken steps to hide it for years."

Tell us you're an idiot without telling us you're an idiot.

First of all GFY. ;)

Second you think that's a "good" location that China should be proud of because the athletes are "doing better tricks"?!? In your opinion THAT old industrial site/power plant was the best place in ALL OF CHINA to build the Olympic ski jump?!?

REALLY ???? :D

Either my sarcasm-meter is out of whack or you must be the "chairman" of the unfortunate Chinese committee who picked that "scenic backdrop" to show off the "wonder" of China!

What a fvcking joke.

:p

It actually is a cool back drop to the actual event.

Crazy me ... I would have preferred to be shown some of China's natural beauty over an old industrial site with an "Olympics" sign painted on it!

Maybe America should host our next winter Olympics in metro-Detroit or Port Newark NJ next to the big gas tanks rather than Tahoe or Aspen... just think how big they could paint the Olympic rings sign that way ??

;)

I haven't seen it. What gave you the doping clue?

The Olympics in Japan were better......China just seems the wrong place for winter games.

Any place that doesn't have natural snow is the wrong place for the winter games....still mind blowing that Beijing was even considered to host this...but then again, since the IOC can be bought for a price, nothing they decide can be surprising...

Let me be the moderate for once. :p Yes, it's ugly. It's also an accurate representation of part of the culture that permeates to Chinese regardless of politics. ;)

Yeah, it is austere but hey, it’s does represent us Chinese well. Well will present a wealthy fr0ont if need be, but we’re willing to get gritty when it comes to saving resources money. So there might be a nice car in the driveway, but maybe we forego trash cans, steal paper from the library, use five year vegetable oil because a penny saved is a penny earned, use food banks even if the eligible grandma died years before.

Commie or not, it’s how WE invade the best schools and neighborhoods near those schools.

The world can do many things to a Chinese. Making one go broke will never happen, for better or worse.

I didn't pick the location, so don't yell at me about it. I just don't mind it. Especially if they are using it to anchor a redevelopment. It is the best of it's kind facility and it'd look stupid on the side of a mountain. This event is typically done on temporary structures for that reason.

The Russian flag. She also wasn't breathing as hard as you'd expect, but that is a retroactive thought. But not only was she doing stuff no woman had ever done before, she was doing it late in her long program.

Nobody would ever dream of putting an Olympic ski-jump in/near the mountains or at the VERY LEAST in an ATTRACTIVE location!

:D

(except for almost every one ever built that is!)

List of Olympic venues in ski jumping (Wiki)

My frustration wasn't with you sorry for my tone! :)
It isn't Ski Jumping. It's Big Air.

I guess it would be fine on the mountains, but it's a much bigger structure than a Ski Jump.

Its an alpine sport performed on snow and were I the one responsible for the way my countries Olympic venue appeared to the world I would have gone a different way.

Keep telling us you don't know what you're talking about, my friend.

Nice straw man, I never ever said it's the best location possible. I said it's a first of its kind venue for Big Air, and the athletes themselves have told us it exceeds their quality standards for an Olympic competition venue. Their opinions are way more pertinent than yours about aesthetics. It's a standard setter because its the first permanent Big Air venue anywhere in the world. (Whether that actually makes sense is debatable.)

You're the one mouthing off that China should be ashamed of this venue, which is just a dumb opinion you're entitled to have. You can like the location or not, but claiming they chose a former steel mill to save money is furthermore uninformed. Again, they're redeveloping the site and permanent venues always cost more than temporary ones in up-front and future costs.

Any place that doesn't have natural snow is the wrong place for the winter games....still mind blowing that Beijing was even considered to host this...but then again, since the IOC can be bought for a price, nothing they decide can be surprising...
You must have missed it, but only 1 former Winter Olympic games host is likely to have reliable weather to host again in the future: Sapporo, Japan. Many of the European ski resorts are losing their glaciers fast.

Sochi, Russia is a coastal resort city lol and the 2014 games were infamous for being way too warm.

Increasingly, nobody even wants to bid for the winter games. It's too expensive to host with terrible ROI. The sole runner up to Beijing 2022 was Almaty, Kazakhstan. I'm sure athletes were kicking themselves when Almaty didn't win. :p

The Russian flag. She also wasn't breathing as hard as you'd expect, but that is a retroactive thought. But not only was she doing stuff no woman had ever done before, she was doing it late in her long program.
Although I agree with enforcing doping penalties, this isn't exactly cool. New records get set all the time. The other Russian women skaters will also be performing quad jumps in the singles comp. Should we just DQ them now because they must be doping? :p How about Chloe Kim, who did stuff in 2018 that her competitors still can't do today? I guess she's fine because she flies our flag. ;)

According to Dr. Michael Joyner at the Mayo Clinic, this is far from a slam dunk PED case where it's obvious why an athlete look a banned substance.
