How many nations have a clean history? How many never invaded another? How many never had injustice, violence, brutality? What nation meets the ideal that you're measuring against?
How many political parties are taking this country backwards when it comes to rights?

Comparisons are valid.
Just in case you didn't notice, most of the world has a history of violence and oppression. It's fine that you hate the US for it, but let's not pretend that it's an American invention. People have been murdering each other since the first cave man killed his neighbor because he had a better cave.

You believe that your verbal dissent puts you on the higher moral ground, it doesn't. Condemnation is worthless without action, blame is an easy out because it only costs a shrug.
Condemning evil and challenging ourselves to be better is taking action. Advocating for policies and supporting the election of representatives that support policies that would better us as a nation is taking action. Not everyone lives their life like an ostrich @Greenman. Pull your head out the sand.

Her veto was over ridden by the legislature. Although it took them two tries to do it.

Thinking about it... would the majority of the legislature and the governor being a different political party be a decent litmus test to suggest looking into potential districting shenanigans? I don't think it's a perfect test given that there could certainly be other factors that lead to a split between the two branches.

Taking criticism and instead implying that it means the critic "hates the US" as a result sounds a lot like the points I'd see from those deeply rooted in American Exceptionalism. Honestly, I don't really understand it, because even those that subscribe to religion should be able to believe that if a country is run by humans and that humans are fallible, then the country should be fallible. So, just like you might critique yourself or a loved one, you don't do so because you hate yourself/them -- or at least, I hope you don't -- but rather, you want to see yourself/them improve.

That's what these people want for the country. Identify our issues and work on them.
