NY Times has an interesting infographic that quantifies the blue wave:

“Over all, 2018’s shift to the left was smaller than the one in 2006, the last time the Democrats flipped the House. And it was half the size of the most recent Republican wave in 2010 when districts shifted more than 19 points to the right.”

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/11/07/us/politics/how-democrats-took-the-house.html

That's a bit misleading as you're comparing a massive blue wave in 2008 to a red wave in 2010 while comparing a basically even contest in 2016 to 2018.

The NYT has a more quantitative evaluation here which shows just how impressive the Democratic wave was.

The only thing that has truly surprised me is the lack of young people voting yet again. I thought they would come out and vote more.
Yup, here in FL, (with some of the lowest wages in the country) we had a candidate that was going to try and push for a $15/hr minimum wage, the young vote simply didn't happen and they, (if it would have passed state legislation) would have been the one's benefiting the most. Nope, didn't show up.

I am not misleading or comparing anything, as I did not assert any analysis beyond whats cited in the NY Times article I linked, which quantifies this midterm wave comparatively to those preceding it.

Impressive is not the word I would use. Successful and necessary to restore checks and balances, but not impressive.

Taking the Senate would have been impressive.

The left is acting like this was some grand victory. It wasn't. It's pretty normal for the team in power losing seats during the midterms. Obama lost 63. The real victory for the repubs was picking up Senate seats, which is where the power is anyway. All I see congress doing for the next two years is wasting time and not passing any legislation. More impeach impeach impeach!
But his taxes!
Russia Russia Russia!
Oh, those poor illegal aliens!
Investigate Kavanaugh....again!
Resist resist resist!
Obstruct obstruct obstruct!

You know that's how it will be. What does any of that do for us? Might as well give congress the next two years off, as they won't accomplish jack shit.

Yes sorry, I don’t mean to attribute the infographic to you however that infographic is misleading.

I would consider the second largest wave in more than four decades to be impressive but I guess to each their own.

That was six years of Obama's presidency. You'll only have to put up with it for two. It'll be ok.

...and yet with a significantly greater portion of the popular vote compared to pre-2010 districts. That's the point.

What does any of that do for us?

Uh, to help make sure we don't have a corrupt government that's doing illegal things and/or lying to the American people?

I seem to remember something about constitutional checks and balances...

Man, I recall when you were all in a rage when the right furiously resisted the black man for 6 straight years.

Yes, you were so bothered by that.

It seems impossible to me that any objective person would not recognize the incredible amount of corruption currently present in the executive branch. The only thing that makes sense to me is that partisanship is so strong that they prefer corruption to Republicans being damaged.

LMFAO. You know what... you are no better than the sock puppets that infest this place. It's been fun reading your bullshit for the past few years but after several of your other recent shit flingings and this huge pile of projected shit you just dropped you can join the fucktards you aspire to be. The legislative branch as well.Edit: Well actually I would argue all 3.

I come across a lot of conservatives who don't care even if it is true. They say it can't be a crime.

I hate false equivalence but.......................

but, but, but, but OBAMAMAMAMAMMAAAAAAA....

Trump does the things they pissed their beds at night fearing Obama was already doing yet not a peep from MILLIONS who made this monster...

Can you imagine the nuclear war that would have ensued had Obama said or much less pulled any of the shit Trump has...

Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for putting hatred for all things 'leftist' ahead of Country...

First, Republicans make up bullshit to smear Democratic presidents. Next, they go and elect a Republican to the Presidency that has openly and in public admitted to doing the things they accused the last Democratic president of doing. Then, they laugh and laugh and laugh as they slowly destroy the country in order to make libruuuuuuls sad.

It's been their SOP since the mid 90s.

This was a good election outcome for Republicans. Yes, it could have been better, we could have taken Nevada, West Virginia and Montana and were pretty damn close, but ho-hum. We only lost 35 or so in the House and those in the biggest mid term turnout in history by the Democrats. Even with close to 100 million dollars spent in the Texas Senate race on Beato O'Rourke, Senator Cruz still won (BTW i owe someone a few likes on the bet).
Now we'll be back in Washington trying to pass bipartisan legislation and gearing up for the 2020 election. More judges will be confirmed. More regulations adjusted. Booming economy for all. How's Justice Ginsberg feeling these days?

Can always count on you for projection. That you think the Republican party had a great night means that I'm a little more comfortable with how well the Democrats did last night.

i read an analysis from JP Morgan that counts this election as one of the biggest shellacking's of all time, when you factor in things like how the economy is doing. They speculated with the economy Trump had he should not have even lost control of the House.

Even if JP Morgan is wrong, it was still a good night for Democrats. Won a lot of elections in in-state races, some good initiatives were passed like felons being able to vote in Florida, marijuana, etc... The Senate was just totally out of reach, but yes, Gillum and Abrams would have been icing on the cake. Oh well. But it was a win for Blue last night that is for sure.
