I disagree. The constitutional duty of Congress is to oversee the conduct of the executive branch and the amount of corruption that has been allowed to happen unchecked over the last two years likely has no precedent in US history.

There should be new hearings every day and new subpoenas every day. Two years won’t be close to enough time to get through all the sleaze so it’s important to get started right away.

I do remember. He'll play the spy but he won't be protected by Republicans in the House. I don't know the Rules, but I'm not sure the House (AKA Dems) must have him on committees if they've determined he should not be for cause.

They'll put him in a corner on time out until he's voted out.

After the shit storm that's been the past 2 years I absolutely cannot believe D's actually lost 2 seats in the senate. I wasn't expecting a flip at all but to lose even more?? Yikes.

This migrant "caravan" thing was awfully convenient. Don't wanna slap the ol tin foil on, but... it makes me wonder.

What kind of man lets another man talk the kind of shit that Donny did about his wife, and then bend over to take it up the ass from the same man?

All "Lyin' Ted" kids will learn from their father, is the fair market value for a soul. I bet Heidi hasn't gotten him laid since 2016.

Trump tweet:

“There’s only been 5 times in the last 105 years that an incumbent President has won seats in the Senate in the off year election. Mr. Trump has magic about him. This guy has magic coming out of his ears. He is an astonishing vote getter & campaigner. The Republicans are.........

....unbelievably lucky to have him and I’m just awed at how well they’ve done. It’s all the Trump magic - Trump is the magic man. Incredible, he’s got the entire media against him, attacking him every day, and he pulls out these enormous wins.” Ben Stein, “The Capitalist Code”

I don't think there were too many surprises in this one. The Democrats had an easy path to the House, they got just what they needed with little extra. The Republicans had a good likelihood of maintaining their lead in the senate, and did as well as gained a few seats. I'm just glad that the Democrat DUI socialist didn't win in my state.

The Democrats had probably the most difficult path to a house majority in US history thanks to geographic disadvantages and attempts by republicans to rig the district maps. It was only ‘easy’ because the vote total against this ‘popular’ president was so large, even among black voters who you claimed were becoming more and more into Trump.

And yes, it was largely about Trump. Voters listed opposition to him and health care (which he is actively trying to sabotage) as their two most important issues.

I'd suggest the Dems take cues from how Mueller and competent prosecutors work. Don't go Maxine Waters and attack Trump to only ultimately lose to him and harm our chances in 2020. We now have the power but many have fallen who wielded it unwisely. Trump is not a thinker, his base are cabbages, but the Rep leadership are sly old dogs.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have hearings and subpoenas but plan as prosecutors and go at Trump as if he were the head of the Mafia. Smart, public and ruthless, but don't trade smart for show.

Lol, is this how you guys are trying to spin the second largest vote margin defeat in our lifetimes as a win?

Truly, such magic, haha.

So this entire time we have been hearing about this 'blue wave', it was just really about taking control of the House and nothing else....all of those people weren't really fed up with Trump and the Republicans, they were just mad that the democrats didn't control the house...

Is that right?

They wanted the house so it can be nothing but investigations into Trump. All the Dims care about is getting rid of Trump. If the Dems wanted to investigate "Russia Collusion", they would have targeted the people where the real evidence pointed. I guess all those reassigned or fired DOJ officials get to ride of into the sunset free and clear.

You always try so hard to diminish Republican victories and prop up underwhelming Democrat results. Keep fighting the good fight.

Smart and show go together here. The important thing is to keep it in the news as much as possible, every day. I mean it’s not like they lack targets, this is shooting fish in a barrel. If nothing else they could just start with calling back all the officials who blatantly perjured themselves to Congress.

Unlike Republicans, all these hearings will be public too. No more hiding the lies.

Just a point of fact. The Democrats won the house with a larger percent of the population than the tea party in 2010.

In 2010, Republicans picked up 63 seats with 6.3(7?)% of the popular vote.
Democrats won 27 seats but received 7% of the population.

That's how bad the system has been rigged by Republicans.

I guess you are intentionally ignoring Dems wanted to being in certain witnesses but Republicans blocked. Now they have subpoena powers.

So to be clear you’re calling what is likely the second largest margin of victory in more than 40 years an ‘underwhelming’ result?

Spin, spin, spiiiiiiiiin!

I'll be honest, I didn't follow that race too closely and don't know much about his opponent other than the Democrats were in love with him. Sounded like a lose / lose proposition, this is probably the better outcome for America, though.

Er, not really. Cruz is both corrupt and visibly power-hungry, the sort who'd sell his soul if it meant climbing a rung up the ladder. O'Rourke is a bastion of integrity and selflessness next to Cruz.

I’ll give you a heads up “Ted” attacked “Beto” for concealing his real name.

*I didn’t follow that race much either but ly’in Ted is the only narcissist that can complete with Trump

Looks like the GOP also lost several hundred state house seats along with several important governorships. Saw as stat that the Dems in the NY Senate secured their largest majority since 1912. A number of trifectas were realized too (total Dem control of governor seat and legislature). Locally a pretty decent night

On the more important side of the ballot initiative front:

FL restored voting rights to 1.5M felons.
Non-partisan districting for CO. Also for MI plus voting reform. MD same day registration. NV automatic voter registration.
ID and NE approved Medicaid expansion, UT looks to the way its coming in.
MI approved legal weed and MO approved medical.
AK and MO min wage increases passed.

Florida somehow banned offshore drilling and indoor vaping by a 70/30 split on the same measure.

CA gas tax repeal also went down which is a real big deal out there.

Only Democrats spin. Trump (and Stein) tells it like it is.

Says the guy who wants the President, well Trump, to usurp the power of the SCOTUS and courts lower than that by using an imaginary power to do so and unilaterally determine what the Constitution means without checks or precedents.

You really should try to understand how the Constitutional system of governments works, however imperfectly. The various Branches do serve as checks and balances or should and to that end the House was given explicit powers of impeachment, unless of course Trump writes an EO that says that isn't what that means in the Constitution.

Overall from your responses, it seems you might support such a thing. The serious powers invested in Congress and the Courts are not LOL material.

Fortunately Trump isn't going to do what he trolled about although he might like as there would be actions and consequences not seen in the last 150 years.

I can’t wait until Maxine accidentally leaks Trumps tax return. We know it’s going to happen before 2020

In NY I would rather have seen Molinaro win but the other results stay the same. Cuomo is that bad.

Bolded for truth!

Let's see what happens when places like Texas and North Carolina don't allow republicans to help themselves to an unfair advantage. Should have been corrected for yesterday's election, but these are republican controlled states we're talking about here and as we've seen in spades lately, party üeber alles.

So, red shitholes have no problem passing things like min wage increases and medicaid expansion but also overwhelmingly vote for the GOP. The hypocrisy is stunning.

If I had to guess, roughly 95% of the population has no idea what policies each of the parties supports, other than inaccurate sound bites.

If you take tribalism out of the equation you'll frequently find lots of voters far more interested in a number of economically progressive ideas than you'd think.
