2017 Ford Fusion Sport

The picture of the car reminds me of this:

One of the two best looking mid-size cars (the other being a Mazda 6). On paper it may have more power than a 340i, but BMW underrates their numbers. The outgoing 335i put down about 320-325 hp at the crank. Ford also seems to be pretty conservative here, I mean this is a twin-turbo 6 putting down just 325 hp/350 tq? I'm sure it has some tuning potential to push those numbers higher. I am glad that Ford is pushing mid-size cars into semi-fun performance cars. I wish they'd make an ST/RS version.
 
I've never really heard anything negative OR positive about Ford's AWD system. Is it any good?

Trying to get more info on that too.. Apparently they have two types that could be applicable. The type they use on the Focus RS or the one from the Edge. Haven't been able to find a definite answer yet or if there's even a difference between the two.

If this would have come out this year I probably would have picked it up. The reason why I didn't go with a Fusion was because of the weak engine. I picked up a 2016 Accord V6 because of the power even though I still think the Fusion is a much better looking car.
 
I think no one really seems to care about their AWD. I considered a Fusion AWD before finally landing on a A4 w/Quattro. I think I made it slip once or twice on the road, but I don't have that much experience with it obviously. My A4 is super reliable in snow and ice with some IceX tires on it.

People waited for a Fusion? It's an alright car, but if they're waiting for it, I feel bad for them.

Stick's death was predicted over 50 years ago, iirc. And it makes sense, honestly. With 8-9 speed gearboxes out there getting relatively good economy while still having good performance make much more sense. You lose less to torque converters now, faster shifts mean more efficient automatics and adding gears does help. (manumatics with people using them also let you shift with intent, rather than waiting for the car to react to you opening up the throttle or going up a hill.)

Manual boxes will only exist on the smallest number of cars. I think there was something like one (new) manual A4 in the entire state of Washington on a lot.

Same. I picked up a 2016 Titanium back in November. Love it, but another ~100 hp and torque wouldn't hurt. 🙂

Remember it's just a 2.7l engine so the power per size is pretty decent. Gets relatively close to what the 3.6l put out in its first outing. There's obviously more room for power here, but that's probably not really the goal. We might see it bumped up in the future but so far they've left it roughly in the same power range across 3 models.

I wonder how much it will weigh with the AWD system?
The MKZ weighs about 4,000 lbs with AWD and 3.0 Twin Turbo, so the Fusion should be about the same. The Taurus SHO is about 4,400 lbs with the 3.5 Ecoboost but its a bit larger car.

I wish they had gone with the 2.3T engine from the Mustang, it has almost as much power and could save some weight.

You can bet it's the one from the Edge. Hopefully that means Ford will release a higher performance version in the future.
 
This is exciting. I've only driven a Fusion once, but it was obvious that the chassis could handle much more than the underwhelming four cylinder and six speed auto.

Jesus, we live in a world to twin turbo 4wd family sedans. Awesome.
 
Funny that an A4 owner is mocking a car for being generic. Audi has a core value of making bland cars.

I didn't say generic, actually. You inferred it. But while we're on the topic of them being "generic" I'll point out that they started the whole LED line trend back around 06 or so with the R8 I think?

I bought an A4 because it had good performance, handling, superb AWD, a dealer experience that wasn't absolute s**t, nice interior, easy to do my own stuff like oil changes, HIDs and it fit me (I'm 6'4").

Now, I kinda fit the Fusion, but in pretty much all of the other categories, it it was no good. Awful touch screen interface, projector halogens only, handling was "meh" at best, as was the power the engine produced...and both Ford dealers near me are *awful* - over the years, I've had a salesman who literally said "I don't know anything about this car. They never trained me.", one who argued politics during a test drive and wouldn't drop it (Yeah, no buy), another who started to help me and then walked away from me when he realized I wasn't buying that same day (yes, he walked away) and so on.

Even if Audi isn't a crazy looking car (I like the look of my B8.5 A4. I also think the Aston Martin vibe of the new Fusions works. I like it anyway) it's a great car, IMO. The Fusion was my budget option...no more. I just cannot see the it being something you wait around for, as the article subtitle suggested. It's a car that I'm sure works for a lot of people - I see enough of them around...

Edit: I see, the photo is "all audis look the same" - yeah, that's intentional. Volvo does it to. As does BMW. I recognize an Audi on the road right away. I have to star at some cars for a while on the road before I can figure out what it is. Hyundai seems to like imitating other cars. And as for all Audis looking the same...I know which Audi I'm staring at often times too. I recognize SOME of the LED patterns and the general silhouettes. Easy to pick out an A5 from a 4, an A7 from an A6 (I'd love to have an S7 one day.)

Before Tesla started talking about the Model 3, I figured we'd end up with a Fusion, Focus, or maybe an Escape.

If the Tesla 3 unveiling disappoints in March then I might have to push her towards the Fusion. We aren't in the market just yet which is why I'm even considering the Tesla which will probably have a 2018 delivery.
 
Someone on the Focus ST forums has been hinting at this car for a few months as he has been doing some work on it. It should be an attractive option for people looking for a performance family sedan.
 
Nice of Ford to offer a Halo edition in each of their cars.
Fiesta and Focus have the ST
Taurus has the SHO.
Fusion was the only one left.

While it's just another appliance, I'm sure the extra shove will make the people who lease this happy. Happy until the appliance in the next lane beats them to the next traffic light.

This is an Audi for folks with tighter budgets.
 
I hope it doesn't drive as boring as Audi. I test drove an A3, A4, A5 and TTS a couple years ago. First three were boring as hell. The TTS was very fun but Audi lease terms weren't as good as BMW.
 
I have a 2013 Fusion titanium. It's not all that exciting to drive. As in, pretty much what you'd expect from a family sedan. I hope they gave this version better handling.

Who cross shops between a Fusion and a A4? They're just different. If you're buying an A4, one would expect that you'd cross shop between the 3 series, the C Class, Lexus IS, Infiniti G37/Q50, etc. If you're buying a Fusion, one would expect that you'd cross shop between the Camry, Accord, Altima, Optima, Sonata, etc.

Also, the only good thing about the A4 is the quattro system. Everything else is behind the curve or average at best compared to cars in its class. The Audi dealer in my area is unfortunately snobby. The dealers need to get over themselves, it's just a freaking Audi.
