Personally, with the WR class as deep as it is, I'd be weary of trading a pick to get a WR. Pick up someone as a FA unless you get a very sweet deal and just draft one. There looks to be some good ones.

while that is mostly true there are only 3-4 real number 1 wide recievers available and they still have great value. Worth the money and draft picks for a team on the cusp. How good would marshall be with Andrew Luck? Can you imagine how many one on ones TY would have with Marshall on the other side?

I would bet on Marshall being traded. Bears would probably keep him if hes not traded because of his value and relative cap hit.

Just talked to a friend of mine who may or may not work for a major newspaper and Marshall has been working out with Teddy Bridgewater right now. interesting

We already got guys breaking bones reaching for pizza. I can only imagine that would increase 10 fold if we let them get high first!

during the season some estimate 80 percent of the players are smoking. I think players are mature enough to handle it and it would mean less pain pills.

It definitely would not reduce other recreational drug use, nor would it be used medicinally as a pain pill substitute.

I was just joking about the broken pizza arm thing, but I still don't think we should be lax on currently illegal drugs in sports. Once weed becomes legal under federal law, I'd be perfectly fine with it be treated similar to alcohol (in regards to sports and work place testing).

ya I know you were kidding.

I do think it would curtail use of pain pills by a bunch of guys. I believe in Colorado abuse of pain pills is down so you can extrapolate that data and most football players grow up in urban environs so they have been around it since they were kids.

I don't think an entire state with an average income $6,000 below average and their new found availability of recreational drugs really compares with a group of people with, at least, 8 times that income (minimum NFL salary is around $400k, while CO average is $52k). NFL players aren't stealing their parent's pain medication because it is easier than finding some skater kid to sell you pot. Now, they can go to that strip mall and buy a doobie with ease. NFL player's taking recreational pain meds are doing it not because it is easier to get than pot (because, it isn't); they are doing it because they want to.

I believe if the stigma was removed the pill culture were seeing would change. How much? Time will tell.

I'd agree it would change, but that is among the general populous, not a very small subset of super rich, young men who are greatly admired by the public (until they beat their GF in Atlantic City... if only it had happened in Vegas, it might have stayed there).

As the ease of availability of pot takes over that of stealing medication, we should see a decrease in usage. But, among those who largely take the pills because they want? Certainly not.

How much is Marshall's salary cap hit for 2015 and beyond? I could see the 49ers entertaining an offer like they did with Boldin a couple years back.

Except we need SPEED at that position, while Marshall is a solid WR, I don't think he's thought of as a speed guy, more like Boldin, a possession guy. He's probably faster than Boldin, but not as physical either. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

We also need a red zone threat. Vernon is a ghost. Boldin isn't that threat. I'd like to see what Ellington/Patton could do with some go routes and if they have the speed open up the defense. Or get Dorsett with our second or third. Guy flat out flies.

I have to disagree with needing a speed guy. Do we need someone really fast to go downfield so Kaep can throw a bullet with no height for the corner or safety to intercept? I think we need someone bigger who is experienced and can come down with the ball when it is badly thrown. I think Davis can already stretch the field enough for Marshall to live a great life.

Eh other than Davis (who was basically absent last season) we have zero speed on the team and it shows when other teams play us

Ellington has 4.4 speed too..

In other news, 49ers also sign Jerome Simpson to a 2 year deal. Class, Jed?

MJD retires.

You 49er fans are cute. Your team is going to suck hard for years after firing harbaugh. Stick to baseball and, now, basketball.

while I am not a 49ers fan they have great talent on that team and flexibility. They had a rough year last year because of injuries and the backups werent as good against the run. if Dockett is a great addition and I wouldnt be surpirsed if they win 10 games next year though Capernickle isnt ready to go deep into playoffs yet.

Cutler trade rumors go into overdrive.

Titans kicking the tires again supposedly. I could see the Bills throwing a 4th rounder since Rex wants to win now.

Bears could covert another six million of cutlets salary making his cap number more palpable in a trade though it magnifies the dead money this year.

Aldon Smith restructures giving this year more cap space. He didnt lose any money

Marshall for a 4th round pick?

Now trade Cutler and that 4th round pick for a bag of footballs. Then concede that you will be terrible next year and get a decent 1st round pick in 2016.

Jets had been interested supposedly and upped their offer when the colts came calling. Colts were very close. Kinda dissapointed he didnt go to colts so I could watch him all the time here. Love the guy as a competitor. Fack the haters. guy is a weirdo but hey who isnt really. Most people just hide it better. hes not that smart but thats ok. He knows football.

I actually think he fits in great with the Jets. With Harvin as a deep threat and Marshall as a big target, if they can get a decent QB, they will do pretty good.

The Bears should cut Cutlet and rebuild. Just take the cap hit and do what you need to do. They have Forte and Jeffery (who is only 25), so they should (on paper) have some weapons.

With the Browns, Bills, and now Jets adding overpriced guys in the last few days, the marketplace of suckers on which to pawn Cutler off might have dried up now that Oakland seems to not be quite as inept anymore. Might want to pick up the phone to the 'Skins as they might be your last, best chance of finding an idiot, ahem trade partner. Or you can see if the Rams are willing to trade headaches with you and swap overpriced Bradford for your overpriced Cutler.

At least, in the case of the Rams, Bradford (when he is on the field and playing) actually looks good. Cutler, OTOH, looks like he gives zero shits.

You guys want to do a NFL mock draft with members picking their teams? I could make a pdf big board and we could take turns

I call dibs on bears :)

Marshall supposedly traded for a fifth. Was really hoping for a 4th but its the jets and its at least an early fifth giving the bears a fifth rounder since they had traded away this years fifth last year.

Jimmy Clausen signs with bears. The pickled wonder is back!

Taj boyd signed to Steelers. Really liked him coming out of college and was surprised he wasnt on anyones scout team this year. Guy has a good enough arm and is tough reminded me of Mcnabb in college.
