Be interesting to see what Boston does at 1B and C for next year. Resign Napoli and Salty? Go for Brian McCann? Resign Drew, put Xander at 3B and Middlebrooks at 1B?

Ellsbury's definitely gone. Drew also.

I'd love to see Napoli back but he'll prolly get more years elsewhere. When Ortiz retires after next season Napoli would be a nice DH guy.

Awesome, but id have to give a nod to the 2004 season as best ever :)

Don't get me wrong, 2004 is the most important year in Sox history. The high of 2004 will never be reached again, but that was due to *WAY* too much stress and baggage leading up to the moment. 2004 was difficult with the best ending you could imagine.

2013 was as stress-free of a baseball season as I've ever enjoyed in my almost-40 years of Sox fandom. All year, a sense of joy and wonder, watching this amazing team never lose focus. Coming off of a last-place 2012, the collapse of 2011, and having won twice in the last 9 years, there was zero baggage or, really, expectations. Just a tremendously fun year of baseball.

Great article that gives you more in depth info on just how amazing and improbable this season was for the Sawx. Nobody has ever gone from that bad a Winning % (.423) to go on and win it all the next year, ever. Holy shit.

Also, is Papi with 3 rings and WS MVP and .939 OPS now the most legendary person in Boston history after Ted Williams? Or is it still Yaz b/c of the triple crown + 18 time All Star? Pedro with his best 2 years by a pitcher, ever + 2 rings/3 Cy Youngs? Jimmie Foxx with his HOF excellence w/ 3 MVPs? Schilling, the greatest postseason pitcher ever + 2 rings?

Agree about Ellsbury. The Sox will make him a decent offer but he'll be able to get more elsewhere. We may be finding out if Jackie Bradley Jr is ready for a full time MLB position.

Probably agree about Drew too. More likely they'll keep Xander at SS and WMB at 3B and find a 1B, whether Napoli again or someone else. Can Xander finally be the answer to the revolving door shortstops?

I think Papi is now the most important and most legendary sports figure in Boston history. Three rings now, after 86 years, him being the key link to all three. His leadership, his personality, his numbers...he's the one.

FYI, Pedro only won one ring, unfortunately.

That's right, he was on the Mets then. He should have retired with Boston.

Well, I meant for baseball. But I don't think Brady > Ted Williams yet, especially with spygate and what not.

Also, funny pic which makes it look like Koji is attacking Ross with a flying punch:
