Still, its hard to go wrong with any of these modern muscle cars, even the V6's. I see people driving the V6's, and they smiling ear to ear like they have supercharged V8s. Such fun cars to drive.

Yeah. 300+ bhp is plenty, even for these bloated beasts.

Not that I'd recommend flooring it at 80, but it's nice having the option if you have to. And if your transmission doesn't downshift at that point, it's broken.

It isn't just downshifting. It is transmissions not downshifting... until they drop several gears and you're redlining. With a manual I would downshift enough so that I'm in the meat of the curve, not already at the high end.

It's not a matter of preference. It's a matter of people talking without facts. You can enjoy driving a MT all you want. But don't talk about "poor performance" in a car you've never driven nor have you actually looked at its performance overall. And don't say that Car X with MT will be faster than with AT when the facts are simply the opposite.

Perhaps reply to the right person. I said none of those things. But YOU said:

I don't think I'd ever want a MT again after having one [the fancy automatic] in my car. Can't wait until they start putting it in the SRTs.

So obviously you're of a totally different mindset than me and many others. I couldn't give two shits how many gears you have or how fast it shifts. If better performance numbers are the only thing that would ever make you want to drive a manual, then your opinions about manuals are pretty moot. Argue auto vs auto.

edit: not to seem too douchey about it. I know you were trying to argue factual things. But it didn't seem like the other guy was- he just said autos suck. I think autos suck, too. Doesn't mean I won't acknowledge that there are much quicker ways to shift gears than with a clutch and manual levers.

right, but people seem to want to accelerate hard in overdrive at partial throttle. unless you've got a big blown V8 you're supposed to downshift to pass.

The point I've been making all along is that newer 8-speeds like the ZF don't redline when you downshift. You're always "in the meat of the curve" no matter what the situation. And if you keep accelerating, you'll stay in that meat as the tranny clicks up the gears almost imperceptibly. I know what a crappy 4 or 5 or speed auto feels like and this is not what I'm talking about.

I understand. And I'm glad people have choice. It's just annoying for people to talk out their ass, you know? Lots of people aren't aware that newer automatics actually get better mileage and performance than their manual counterparts. I get just as annoyed when people say to top off your tank (oblivious they'll destroy their evap system) or sit in the car for 20 minutes to warm it up before driving, or fill up with the engine running, etc, etc.
